Has anyone had their child play in the JPL? It’s early days, but my son might get involved in it. Saturday matches instead of grassroots’ traditional Sunday is what I’m told.

Maybe the training and coaches approach might be different also?!

For those who have a son/daughter playing football in the JPL and may have previously been in grassroots, what experiences and opinions do you guys have as parents/carers?

Any comparisons between both the JPL and grassroots?

I’m new to all this as my son will be playing matches as he enters Year 2 from September and has played for a club since he was about 3 years old.

I thought JPL football runs alongside grassroots football? I mean they’ll be playing JPL on a Saturday and grassroots for their club on a Sunday, that’s the impression I get at South Glos and that’s what they expect.
My girl has playing for them this season and hopefully will move up into JPL with them next season , she plays for her club on a Sunday as well .They don’t start JPL with the girls until u13. With these RTC centres like south glos the training is good and they are training with players of their ability rather than mixed ability which means they push on quicker .It is quite a lot more expensive than grassroots football though and more travelling in the JPL although it is more regional now from what I understand. Great bunch of parents in my daughters group and she really enjoys it. I say if they really like playing football then give them every opportunity you can if time and money allow.

  2. My girl (12) is in her 3rd season of football and loves it . Games have been severely disrupted because of the rubbish weather this season, they’ve only played one game at home since the end of November. She’s doing really well , I never expected her to be as good to be honest and I love watching her play ,she’s got way more ability and pace than I did at that age . I’m a proud dad !  Women’s football will only improve in time with the amount of good quality coaching girls get now .
She plays for her club side on a Sunday and south glos on a Saturday and is hoping to be in the south glos side next season when they will hopefully step up from the Somerset girl’s league to the junior prem league.  Also the change from 9 to 11 aside to deal with . With her pace and stamina I think she’ll relish a bigger pitch , certainly worked in her favour when they moved from 7 to 9 aside
I think the changes in kick off times for city next season will have a big impact on how many games we can watch as it will clash with her games . No contest there though , I’d rather watch her play anyway!

I saw something completely opposite to that today. Dickie had the ball and both TGH and Williams were literally hiding. By that, and any of us who have played the game will know what I am talking about, they were ALLOWING THEMSELVES TO BE MARKED without any effort whatsoever to move into a space and at least attempt to show for the ball. Dickie ended up banging the ball up the pitch to the derision of many fans, looked at the pair of them, and just shook his head. That is lack of bravery in action right there.

This has been noticeable the last 2 home games. Very little or no movement when we’ve got the ball at the back which results in the usual sideways and back stuff or as you say a hopeful boot upfield. Totally crap to watch

The answer is not to have Astro pitches at schools. The one where I live is now at end of life ( 13 years) , been rarely or poorly maintained and completely out of reach of local community.
Fact the local junior Fc has spent over £80k over last 7 years with the “ charity/school “ that manage the Astro pitch!
Absolute disgrace. The answer is a community use agreement which must open up these facilities to local groups for the benefit of the kids and inhabitants of local towns.

A not for profit football club spending 75% of its annual budget on Astro fees at a local school is wrong!

The amount of money in football is crazy and I agree more Astro pitches are needed for kids especially, however it’s not just a case of building more pitches. They need to be accessible and maintained correctly.

As a chair and current fixture secretary of a local club the weather has caused absolute carnage this season.

Old Astro pitches are awful surfaces to train or play on. My daughter’s team train at Abbeywood school through the winter , rock hard surface, ball travels too fast and bounces too high. Not good for your knees either twisting and turning on that. The trouble is there’s nowhere near enough decent affordable winter training pitches to go round unfortunately

  5. Yep this winter has been a nightmare for kids football. My girls u12 Sunday team have only played 1 game on their home pitch since Xmas . Fixtures are stacking up and Sunday isn’t looking good .She also plays for South Glos on a Saturday and their home games are on 3G luckily. There are more 3G pitches coming gradually ,the company I work for have done a new pavilion and 3G pitch at st Brendan’s and I’ve heard that mangotsfield and Bitton have them planned.

Disagree - I sense no entitlement of promotion. Has anyone said that, other than the club?

You can talk about what did they actually say….well they actually said a lot and frankly one is always entitled to read between the lines - if in a position of comms that BT and JL are in they leave the option for people to read between the lines, then frankly they deserve what they get.

They said the aim is promotion.

They said the squad is underachieving.

They said the squad is a good as it’s been in JL’s time here.

They said NP is gone because we had a better chance with someone else of promotion.

So I believe fans are absolutely right to hold those statements to account - and it is my personal opinion and belief of the vast majority of other city fans 2 things:

    1) NP is gone, fine - we would have accepted a ‘mutual’ parting of ways statement or similar when he left - something respectful from the club - but they threw him and Rennie under the bus and rubbished parts the huge work they did (RG included) in getting us out of the mess SL go us in to.

    2) They could have said any number of things without mentioning promotion - no one expects promotion, but we do expect their new man to back up their claims (otherwise what was the point?!) and have us trending upwards, not into relegation form. Top 10 would have been great, Top 8 fantastic and top 6 we’d all be delighted, just challenging and losing in the play offs frankly.

If you want to talk about entitlement, talk to Brian “see you in the premier league” Tinnion and Jon “ambition to be promoted” Lansdown - and ask them why they’re entitled to make those statements without being held to account?

Nailed it there👍 I think what you’ve said most city fans would agree with

Is it possible to buy a ticket off a ST holder in S24/25 or does the digital thing make transferring tickets impossible.

Not been since the digital switch so not sure how it works in practical terms.

If you’ve got a Bristol sport account then tickets can be transferred. They just have to link their account with yours using your account number and then transfer the tickets for that game to you .

  8. It’s happening in local football, someone I know was moaning about players cutting socks recently. Whatever trends happen at pro level often filter all the way down.
last week we had a message from my girls RTC club about stopping kids wearing micro shin pads and the FA want to discourage their use in grassroots football .

    Thanks guys.

So far however, no one has messaged me, so effectively, there are 4 tickets I can give to guests going to waste, which is a great shame.

4 pages in on this section a chap was asking about stadium tours to take his son on before going to his sons first game. Might be a bit short notice but as your package includes a tour maybe you could message him ?
Brilliant gesture to offer people, and I’m surprised no one has suggested anyone yet.

I must admit. Until recently I always thought the cheap kids tickets (with free shirt) were only available in the upper Lansdown family stand.

Only in the last couple of months I’ve seen comments on here about it being available elsewhere too.

Seems a bit baffling to me. I always thought the cheap family tickets were only for the family stand.

So I agree with your idea.

£55 under 12 season tickets in upper landsdown and south stand , then are mostly about £100 elsewhere and up to £150 landsdown centre . All under 12s get a free shirt

I've seen this a few times. My ST ticket is as I said in the Dolman but if a workmate cannot attend I use their ST's and sit in the Lansdown. Often I have got to their seat and someone is sitting there, I advise them it's my seat and they move without problem (as they aren't meant to be there, and obviously don't want to draw attention to this). They often move a few seats or rows away until the same thing happens! I have seen stewards occasionally ask other people to leave the Lansdown stand and point to where they are meant to be, eg the SS or even the Dolman! But no, it's certainly not monitored very well.

I think this goes on a lot more than people realise. People buy the cheapest tickets then all they have to do is look on the ticketing app to see where the seats are in the landsdown that haven’t been sold just before they go in. Not rocket science is it. The stewards on the steps going up into each section could do random ticket checking but even that might not stop it

What is the mascot package like? Do you as parents get to meet the players etc? Where do you sit?

You do the tour around the changing rooms etc with the kids then you go off up to the Heineken lounge whilst the kids meet the players. The kids meet you up at the Heineken lounge for some grub then they go off to get ready for going out for kick off with a bit of a warm up on the side off the pitch . They go out with the  players at the start of the game and you take your seats in front of the Heineken lounge . They then bring the kids up to you afterwards .
that’s about the long and short of it if it’s still the same .

you get photographer photos of them about a week later

Yes we are doing this for the Cardiff game my lad and my nephew are mascots, they both can't wait, hoping it won't be too much for them and they've both been going to games for a while now

They will love it! They will probably get a bit nervous prior to going out on the pitch but that’s normal for them.

My girl did it for her 11th birthday, said it was the best day ever! Make sure they’ve got something for the players to sign, I left it a bit last minute and had to buy a city calendar and pen on the day. Loads of photo opportunities before ko when you go around the stadium but they don’t allow photos in the changing room.
It’s a great day for both the kids and the adults and something City do well in my opinion.

  14. Says coming soon on the website .
you get to see a fair bit of the stadium as part of the mascot package (u12s only), and parents do to. Might be a bit early for him though if he’s never been before. Can thoroughly recommend it though

It may sound academic but do we have a list of songs. There’s many sat around us that don’t know the songs, can’t hear the words so just end up humming it to no benefit of anyone. Can we publish them somewhere. Even in the young reds book they give out. The only atmosphere that we’ve really generated is east end bounce around as that’s the easiest to understand 😁

I can’t see them printing ‘you’re not singing over there , you c***s in that young reds mag!
To be honest , even though I don’t mind a bit of swearing myself being in the building trade, do people really need to sing that in a stadium with lots of young kids present? If you’ve got young kids with you I can assure you it’s an uncomfortable experience . The usual effing and jeffing I think most people accept that if you bring kids into a stadium you have to live with it but the ‘C’ word is a bit extreme.
just my own personal opinion and I don’t expect things to change . It could well be putting off people bringing young un’s and future reds lost.

Buckle in everyone, they're on the brink of yet another of their enhanced gift giving periods haha.

It amazes me, you wrack your brains thinking surely there is nothing new left in the Gas comedy gift giving tank and then they come out with a beauty like this one!
