I always wore shin pads until one game (at Wick I think it was) when I unpacked my bag to find no shin pads.

Sod's law, 5 minutes into the game I knocked a through ball past the centre half. I was quick, so he raised his foot to bring me down. The edge of the sole of his boot (screw in studs) ran up the front of my shin and peeled the skin off like a pencil sharpener.

Cue everyone pointing out that I should have worn shin pads!

How long ago are we talking and which league? Could well have been ryley towlers grandad !

First “screw ins” were Mitre in late 70s.

Remember having some Adidas Zephyrs, Puma Dalglish Silvers, Adidas Beckenbauers…never had World Cups - wasted on a CB!

Majority of senior playing career was Puma Kings (screws and Moulds) as they tended to have a wider fit, until they suddenly became narrow, and I got a pair of Predators (blades) and Mizuno moulds (which were probably the comfiest boot I ever had).  The Preds and Mizuno never got much wear as I was always injured!

@mattjb the managers son used to clean mine for a £1!

Was all good at the end of the season, all the fine money was given out as free beer tokens on the last home game . Free drink in the clubhouse followed by a pub crawl , deadly!

  3. My first boots were probably of the winfield variety from Woolworths! Remember having golas and Patrick’s after that. Used to buy Lotto ones later on , never spent much on boots , never cleaned them , pulled them out of the bag on a Saturday with mould and grass growing out of the mud on the bottom = £1 dirty boot fine every week without fail!

  4. This thread made me look up some of the footballs of yesteryear , anyone remember the orange plastic mitre mouldmaster balls that they used at schools? Thick orange plastic with dimples on . The sounds of the day were a ‘poink’ as someone put their laces into one , closely followed by a loud smack and a scream as it impacted on someone else’s inner thigh! Brutal they were!

  5. Remember those and also had the orange captains ball as a kid.An uncle gave me one of the old leather lace up balls , weighed a ton when wet but our lane was lined with hedges .Punctures were no problem though , undo the laces , take out the bladder and stick a bike repair patch on and away you go!

  7. Classy response from Nige , top bloke.
I’m glad that after the whole sorry mess of this week that he can see how much the majority of the fan base were behind him and appreciated what he was doing.
Time for him to enjoy the time out, the countryside and get well.

Correct. It’s like if someone cheats on you, or betrays you. You can move on to a point, even have the resemblance of normality, but deep down you know.

Yep, I think they massively misjudged how this whole thing would go down with us fans and they’ve made a complete mess of it. There’s no going back now unfortunately

I have defended the Club/kit/ONeils where I thought it was warranted ,
*not sure the quality was as bad as some made out.
*The yellow isn't as bad as some said
*I like the City round logo
*O'Neils aren't a market stall knock off company that some made it sound like
*the splat Robin would make a great feature on kids ranges

Now the one thing that is wrong, and @RedM flagged it up earlier. While the 3 kits have to vary in colour, and I don't mind designs being different across the 3 , but there has to be some consistencies.

The Club badge HAS to be the same, it's the Clubs identity . As it stands there are 3 logos across 3 kits, 2 have different badges , 2 with splat , one with just the badge.
WTAF was the design team thinking ??
This is where I would question if O'Neils queried the jumble of badges, or if Jonny Crayon just demanded his drawings had to be used.

Stick with the Club badge on the front, it would have stopped a lot of moaning.
If you need to use the splat back of the shirt at most. Maybe the kids range as I said.
Then the round City in the 3rd kit isn't an issue for me.

This all feels a little Lee Johnson and his formations. Lots of ideas, but no focus. Just feels messy.

I do like the away kit though.

The splat robin on the yellow kit was a big mistake, would have sold many more if it had the round badge. I don’t think the yellow colour itself is so much of a problem

We must be the only club in the entire football league to not announce an away kit yet.

Wish they’d hurry up, my daughter has a season ticket voucher for a shirt. No home kits in her size and the yellow splat robin special looks awful so she’s holding out for a hopefully better away top. The chances of it being both better and having one in her size are probably remote though!

People are confusing the meaning of "Temporary"

It's not "temporary" as in only being used for short period of time

It is "temporary" as in it is not a fixed permanent structure, as in the stand "could" be taken down and moved to another location

As an example anyone that has been to Weston FC, the stand behind the goal is "temporary" as they had originally planned to move stadium again in a number of years and the plan was to take it with them.

Ultimately the stands will no doubt be in place for a very long period of time

Without looking into it, I suspect there are many similar structures around the lower leagues and non league

Yep that’s kinda what I was implying. They are calling it temporary,it’s all they can afford to build but really it’s long term
