What a lovely man. They will now all flock back in their tens of thousands for their first home game.

TBF he has said he is gone if found guilty, and that is for both charges St Joey is up for.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating and all that....He's gone on record now.  If Jailbird is found guilty on either charge, and remains with the club then this will come back and bite him.

I would say that he's more likely to be found guilty on the Stendel case because of this now.  It's only human nature that people on the jury will have this incident in the back of their minds when deciding guilt in that one, even though they shouldn't allow it to influence their decision.

*Edit* What I would say though is that the words are rather hollow given that Jailbird's got a well documented history of proven violence and Wally still offered him a job.

Never say never though; I recall one particular time in my career where I, as a prosecutor, secured what I would say was an 'un-deserving' conviction up in Birmingham - strange things do happen in court on occasion.

Hopefully just the one and not a certain 6.....

If you've got a significant amount of time to spare, here is a link to a summary of Barton's previous misdemeanours.

From numerous training ground bust ups, to an incredible number of Red cards for violet conduct, to stubbing a cigar out in a youth team players eye, to attacking members of the public, numerous arrests, charges and sentences passed on him, to inflammatory remarks and public spats with fellow professionals....

How any football club could even consider appointing him as manager of their club is beyond belief..!

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9114297/Joey-Bartons-incredible-rap-sheet-sacking-Fleetwood-Town.html

A point made quite vociferously on AssChat when he was arrested for the Stendel incident.  All changed for many of them when appointed.  They saw him as some sort of Messiah.  But as we all know, he's not the Messiah.....I'll let you lot fill in the rest!

What happened between JB and his wife as she said private but someone for whatever reason felt it needed exposure.

Full respect to the sag fans for calling him out on domestic abuse charges. No one should ever have to be assaulted whether that's domestically or not.

I do feel a bit sorry for them because he does seem to be constantly dragging their name through the mud and it seems like there's a new court date every other month.

He is not just a stain on their club, he's a stain on the city of Bristol and a stain on football he should never be allowed to manage every again or even play at an amateur level for the dog and duck pub.

I don't....you play with fire, you're gonna get burned....  They knew exactly the sort of person they were appointing and most of the fan base celebrated it.  They get everything they deserve.

It’s not quite that simple though, is it? The government may have removed the statutory requirements, but advice to businesses is still there and includes

    - carrying out risk assessments and taking reasonable steps to mitigate risks (and that would have some statutory backing in terms of general duties of care under H&S legislation

    - ensuring that customers who are unwell do not attend the venue

    - “we encourage organisations in certain settings to use the NHS covid pass as a condition of entry….especially in large crowded settings”

So, there are some requirements, and more expectations. Personally I don’t think it’s right for government to pass the buck to business in this way, but that’s what they’ve done. And so it’s not quite true to say that measures are no longer ever required.

100% this.  All they've done is tried to give themselves an excuse when it all surges further and we head for another lockdown by saying..."Well we did advise you to do this and that.  Not our fault you didn't ensure our advice was followed."

14 hours ago, Sir Geoff said:

You said it yourself. It is advice only. A football club or other organisation have no legal grounds to stop someone entering if they are not wearing a mask, been jabbed or taken a test. Those were not the stated requirements when you bought a season ticket. Legally the club / organisation would lose every case brought against it for barring entry on those grounds. Therefore the advice us for people to be sensible enough to do what they think is best re mask wearing, time spent in busy concourses etc.

A football club has every right to stop someone entering if they are not wearing a mask, been jabbed or taken a test.  It's private premises and they are free to change their ground policies at any time they wish, including conditions of entry.  If they decide that they won't allow people onto their private premises in this scenario then actually you would have no legal angle to battle them with.

Oh my god please. They are atrocious for those of us with red/green colourblindness. In the game v Celtic I could only really distinguish the teams by our white shorts. Everything else, when moving at speed and on TV is tough* to distinguish. Same as the annual Wales v Ireland rugby match.

*not impossible, but tough to the point that it makes it unpleasant to watch.

Genuine question and 100% not a piss take....but how do you cope with the City kit and the pitch?

Of course, again I was imagining a worst case scenario.

But with no Bristol City, they would have had zero competition in the city. Old timers wouldn't have supported them, but kids of the time and people born after 1982 wouldn't have had the same revulsion that we feel now.

Lansdown wanted to invest in sport in Bristol, they would be the only real choice.

So they'd be at Ashton Gate in 1982, would have similar supporter numbers to us and probably have Lansdown bankrolling them. They'd likely have done extremely well without us.

I don't think it works the other way. If Rovers disappeared in the early 80s, then I don't think it would have made much difference to City. A few extra fans, but hardly huge numbers. The rugby club would be complete different though!

But let's not forget he already tried to invest in them and they turned him down, leading him to come to us instead...just like Harry Dolman...(they really don't learn!)  There's no reason for us to believe that they would have decided any differently had we ceased to exist.

Of course, had he had the same appetite for sport in the area, and there's nothing to say he would have, then he may well have bought them when Higgs sold up.  As far as I'm aware though it was owning City and seeing what other successful clubs did that gave him that thirst for improving sport in and around Bristol.  Woulda, coulda, shoulda....It's all eggs, bacon, beans and a fried slice in the end....But don't quote me on that. :)

  9. Following on from the question asked below are there plans to bring out a bigger range of items.  The other year I got my boy a duvet set and curtains which he would love to update to ones with the new badge etc.  Other things like City PJ's, onesies etc for kids would be a massive hit I'm sure.

Someone seriously feels they're in a position to criticise a ground with one bad end?

    image.png.85e768303b5e3ba50373aab1e5915716.png

Ah.....so covid is responsible for them playing their marquee signings in front of marquees?  Right you are.  For all in tents and purposes they may have a point...they couldn't upgrade their tents to gazebo's with Go Outdoors closed I suppose!

    Good what now?!?

They're hilarious!  The number of them taking his dig about the ground as a personal attack on them is mind boggling!

See Joey has decided to overcome the goal scoring issues from last season with a new formation based entirely on season ticket sales.

    Jeez..... their spelling is awful!

Tickets are now off-sale for a week while seats are reallocated.

That's not how you spell "relocated"!  I presume they're maybe taking the roof off one of the stands to pop it in the washing machine and they just don't want the seats getting wet.....

I imagine that Derby's lawyers are  building up a case around

    a) the efl being ineffective in the past and why are they picking on poor little Derby and

    b) if they are to be given a 12 point deduction - possible to be reduced to 6 points later on then why not start with 6 points now and reduce it to 3 later on!

I would be happy with b).  Even a 3 point deduction would be enough to send them down.

  16. 2 minutes ago, TonyTonyTony said:

..are you the Wycombe lawyer? That is probably what the argument will be

I certainly hope that it isn't their argument!  You can't win a legal battle with an outright falsehood...well...ok, you probably could, but not in this case.

If the EFL apply the points deduction they'll either end up relegated and start the season in league one, or they'll apply it to next season and Derby will start with negative points in the Championship.  But to say that Derby are in league 1 now is simply not true!

  17. 35 minutes ago, TonyTonyTony said:

Im not sure on this, but i thought that if any club was going to be punished, it occured in the league they are currently in. In Derby's case they are in league One now, so if there is a points deduction they would start the season on -ve points. Probably wrong though !

    No....they're not....

Spot on! The South Stand should be renamed “The Terry Cooper Stand” with immediate effect -

Why not The Alan Dicks Stand, or even The Harry Thicket Stand, who are the only two managers to get us promoted to the top flight.  In ADs case, I believe he is our longest serving manager.   Harry Thicket took us to a cup final and to a runners up spot in the top flight.  If you’re naming stands on merit, both men seem to be more deserving of recognition IMHO.

Whilst it's right to recognise the achievements of Harry and Alan, what Coops did went far, far, far beyond any success the club may have achieved.  He literally dragged this club up from the gutter in it's darkest days and gave the club back its heart and soul.

No other manager in my lifetime (43 yrs) has come close to the monumental achievement that Terry Cooper fought for in my opinion.  Football isn't all about winning matches.

Bristol Post showing it’s true colours again. Yeah we all miss #6 don’t we

Whilst you're right of course about not missing that particular "landmark", it does actually raise nostalgia in the write up.  Floodlight pylons for my years growing up and going away with the City served as excellent landmarks to spot whilst driving around the country.  "Look over there - that's Walsall's ground" - "Over there, Brentford's floodlights" etc etc.  The country's skyline will never feel as exciting again.
