  1. I have a ST. We don't routinely boo every former player. You can understand Maynard after his behaviour towards the end of his time here. Ditto Tomlin.
  2. Because the club made all new signings do that when they join Do you think it means he suddenly supported Cardiff? For professional players, clubs are a place of work. They do what they are told by their employers' publicity departments.
  3. An acquaintance who played youth football with Bobby told me he was one of those "I support Liverpool and Bristol City" sort of kids. Not unusual nowadays, unheard of when I was a kid. We didn't boo Benik and we haven't booed other former players. Inconsistent and stupid idea that we should.
  4. They are two of our better players from recent years, both Bristolians, and at least one is an active supporter of the club. Neither now plays for a so-called local rival. I just find booing under such circumstances tinpot. And inconsistent: Afobe, who was on loan here for a year, got applauded as have other former players.
  5. While not wanting to belittle David's struggle and the unpleasantness of both the condition and the treatment, catching it at Stage II means he has a very good chance of recovery. A friend of mine developed Hodgkin Lymphona during her third year at university. After a year out, she returned to complete her degree. The cancer returned in her early 40s, again, after 6 months, she was able to resume her job, cancer-free.
  6. It's still heartening to know that there are Virgin Megastores in the Middle East. I found these images of a few "part-time punx" outside the Broadmead store in the early 80s: http://www.britishrecordshoparchive.org/virgin-bristol.html
  7. The famous Leeds fan in Dolman A a few years ago springs to mind. Not only celebrated their goal, but unzipped his jacket to reveal a Leeds shirt and goaded and insulted those sat around him. Result - a visit to the BRI.
  8. I know the Oxford Street store was the first Virgin record shop and that opened in 1979. Your picture brings back lots of memories.
  9. If it was, I can't remember it. I always associate Virgin with a couple of shops they had in Broadmead. When I was 20, I had a holiday job at the Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street. My favourite memory from that time was of a little old lady coming up to the counter, unwrapping a bit of paper presumably written on by a grandchild and asking me, in a shaky voice, if we had Acid Bath by Alien Sex Fiend.
  10. There's a partial list on Wikipedia, which would certainly yield a half-decent XI. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Footballers_from_Bristol
  11. They're really available. (Cheaper options than this, exist) https://www.thefootballnation.co.uk/dukla-prague-1960s-away-retro-shirt/
  12. I've been to Burnham-on-Sea and wished for a tsunami!
  13. She did, until relatively recently, have majority control St Mary's Football Group Ltd - which owns the ground. Having just checked Companies House, you're right: Kraft, Solak and other Sports Republic figures have bought into this entity, so they control the stadium as well as the club.
  14. Fab that I got to walk 10 feet from where I was watching the match to get a hot dog - during a first half stoppage! ? As you say, a great day out - and despite Gas assertions that Bath fans are all secret Rovers fans, I found them very friendly. Happy that the substantial City contingent had boosted the gate takings.
  15. Surely, if we allow time-travelling, you'd have Fatty Wedlock? Best centre half in England in his day. He was and is.
  16. Had to check that stat, and according to Our world In Data 24% of Jamaicans have had one jab and 19% are fully vaccinated. Pretty piss poor, but I don't know how many Jamaicans have been offered the jab. They're a poor country and they may not be able to afford to offer it to all adults.
  17. Weird how he went from our best defender to one of our worst shortly after he failed his physical to secure his move to Southampton. The decline in performance level was so steep that it must've been a mental thing rather than purely a physical problem.
  18. Very odd. The Chinese paid £210m for Saints, but Katherine Liebherr retains ownership of St Mary's, through a holding company.
  19. Every ******* match at some time or other. Take it from a guy who has a couple of Stokie fans as mates. They even hate Vale's toilets: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/new-video-stoke-fans-destroying-13692604
  20. Was there as well. I thought he looked decent..... but it was 6th tier, Conference South level. As well as the aforementioned, Jack Batten, Frankie Artus plus an enormous Kevin Amankwaah featured.
  21. My mate wore a Dukla Prague away kit shirt to the Gate, but that's another story...
  22. Was just going to say that. Was reminded of the 11 v 11 ruck between my team and Mitcham Vale FC in a car park in suburban Surrey just after the game.
  23. Although he made little impact on Sunday, Benarous has had some very good games for City. I'm afraid I can't say the same for Towler. Four Championship starts with three half-time subbings tells its own story. Yes, you are more exposed as a defender. I've always said don't just look at the last man charged with intercepting an attacker, look at the player further upfield who gave away the ball in the first place and the midfielders who failed to stop the attack reaching our final third. That said, it feels like some of those rushing to Towler's defence on this thread are doing so because they feel sorry for him. It does seem extraordinary he started the game after 5 weeks with no football. Atkinson can't have been injured or he wouldn't be on the bench. As the second half showed, there was the option there to play a back three.
  24. Physical build, not just height. As with Scott and Benarous, I don't think Towler had enough muscle to not be bullied off the ball by a team who are renowned as a highly physical side. Ultimately, unless Atkinson was really unwell (in which case why was he on the bench?) Pearson's first 45 minute experiment failed.
