  1. Their role would be advisory - with the aim of pushing the club forward and stopping said main shareholder haemorrhage money to no end purpose.
  2. Dave for CEO/tactics analyst when we get together enough dosh for the fans to buy the club. I found £30 in an old jacket today, so I'll start the collection.
  3. In one of his books, Bill Bryson talks about an Amazon jungle tribe who just have three words for numbers: One, two, a lot. I bet they are Gasheads.
  4. Never underestimate the hatred and rivalry between Dorking and Epsom. It gets pwoper nawty. It's right up there with Guildford v Godalming...
  5. Season ticket refunds and lack of matchday ticket sales only account for £3m of the loss. Obviously, there will be non-ticket revenue missing as well, but at the end of the day we'd have still made a thumping loss had the ground been open. Indeed. I wonder why furloughing didn't offset that in some cases? Bristol Sport was supposed to share the off-pitch admin burden and lower such costs. Instead they seem to be going through the roof.
  6. We can add that there are a lot fewer state schools teaching cricket than there were of old. Fewer want to maintain a wicket or buy the bats, pads and helmets required. Cheaper to do athletics in the warmer months, or just keep football all year round. Schools in many urban areas have large numbers of children from cultures with no cricket tradition, such as Eastern and Southern Europe and West Africa. Pair that, with less money in cricket than other sports and we don't have the conveyor belt of young cricketers coming through that you do in countries where the sport is more popular than football. It sounds bizarre, but I don't think climate change has helped English 5 day cricket either. Our climate has got 6% wetter in the last 30 years. By contrast, the Australian climate has got drier in the same period.
  7. Hope everyone has had a great Christmas. Damp and dark though it was, we had a good time. Amazingly, Ive just opened my first alcoholic drink of the day - a beer.
  8. Merry Christmas fellow City fans ?
  9. He's not a "pantomime villain". He is someone who encourages his players to cheat. As simple as. I don't care about his stupid whinges or daft opinions or touchline play-acting. There is a line between canny gamesmanship and outright cheating, and Warnock encourages the latter. The way his Rotherham side feigned head injuries throughout the game when they were at Ashton Gate was a disgrace to football.
  10. Nah, didn't work out there either. By the time he'd got round to check their passes were valid, half of them had left.
  11. Blimey. I thought they wanted to get promotion...
  12. Right now, we'd be lost without him. Simple as that.
  13. It isn't really a case of just an opinion. We saw him earlier this season. He wasn't horrendous, but he didn't shine either. Then he went on loan to a side three tiers down from us and although the loan started well, the entire team seemed to self-destruct two months ago and fans there say Towler has "lost confidence". None of this suggests to me, he'd be a great addition to our backline right now. That's not to say he might not be at a future date. I'm not writing anyone off. His career has only just begun.
  14. Not the case where I work. All the team know they'll never get a better boss than me. Basically, a chilled-out entertainer....
  15. We already have more experienced towelers. Kalas and Vyner, every time they go to take a long throw.
  16. Incorrect. He played in two of those 4 losses. Five goals conceded in those two. I wondered what precipitated such a disastrous loss of team form? It isn't like they have Lee Johnson to blame.
  17. Not entirely. I hadn't realised just how calamitous Grimsby's fall had been. Top of the table in late October, but lost 7 of the 8 games thereafter. Towler's played in the majority of those losses, most recently 3-2 loss to Dagenham & Redbridge a fortnight ago, which saw them slip to 8th. None of it screams wanting him back to play for City to me.
  18. What are you basing that on, Dave? They've lost 4 of their last 5 games.
  19. If we ever achieve a result at home like that again I might be in trouble as I no longer have a Bristol office with a comfy couch on which to sleep off the booze, as I did that night!
  20. I don't think it's supposition that Palmer offers little defensively, it's the evidence of our own eyes over more than 50 games. As for Weimann wide. Didn't work at Derby, hasn't worked here. He might as well be stood in the carpark than played there. I imagine Nakhi and Jay are set for a January departure. Pearson's working with the players he wants "on the bus" in the future. We certainly won't turn a profit from either departure, but the wages freed might give Nige the leeway to make, perhaps, one signing. At 33, I think Martin's earned a rest from playing every second of every game and I think my preference would be for a Weimann/Semenyo front two, with Martin getting game time in the second half.
  21. Got nothing against Everton. Newcastle, Leeds and Watford would be my dream drop. ?
  22. The trouble with that is a lone striker scores goals - and Semenyo has not much pedigree there. THAT SAID, he looked hot to trot yesterday and I agree with those who made him MOTM. He might evolve into the sort of player you frame him as, but he's not quite there yet. More games like yesterday and he might yet do so.
  23. If we're doing blame the last man, then Scott completely failed to stop Sinani getting his shot off for the second goal - despite being about 6 inches away from him. TBH Vyner always seems to have mistakes in him, and when you play in defence, those mistakes can be costly. I can also recall him putting in an inch-perfect 40-yard crossfield pass to Martin and making a couple of crucial blocks, so it isn't all bad stuff on ZV's report card. Ultimately, you want better options. Yesterday, I'm not sure we had them.
