Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion and let's be honest this forum would be dull if we didn't, but surely you must be seeing things differently now?

I think we are all mostly unsure about him but after watching full presser and fresh from watching game at Norwich I have to say  to me he comes across as someone who is a bit obsessed with the science of football and computer stats football  but has a strategy and a focus on a team identity that we probably haven't ever had, I think we have definitely seen some impressive performances on occasions also some tactics that clearly didn't work so for now I am feeling more positive in giving him a breather and seeing what pre season  shows us , coyr.

My view is that we HAVE BEEN a better team with Matty James in it, than when he’s not in it.

But that’s not to say in LM’s system that continues to be the case.  So I’m open-minded to how our midfield is set up and the personnel in it.  It could be more horses for courses, a player key in Nige’s midfield isn’t as key in a LM midfield.

On Saturday in the spell we pressed quite well, it was noticeable how high Jamo was.  In the pics below he’s closer to our forwards than he is our centre-backs.

But as a midfield we didn’t maintain that high positioning, especially second half, when we got caught being too much on top of our defence.

I agree, but I’m not sure where at this point.  I also really like TGH too.  But it is possible that what we’ve become used to in our midfield changes quite a bit in terms of shape and personnel.  I will wait to see how LM solves this.

TGH and Joe Williams are those two players, although I’d argue TGH is the better pass-spreader over distance, JW is erratic at best, but he can do it.

I think to move on we need to replace Williams and James,we are going no where with these  two apart from staying mid table which jl doesn't think is enough,I would put naismith in front of back 4 who are solid enough and hopefully to add mcrorie . dickie & vyner can both carry out into midfield when needed as can Atkinson when available so naismith is not the only option. Naismith if fit of course is always looking for a killer pass where James is safety first (not a fault but not progressive either, )I think we have movement available with Sykes tgh Knight Bell conway etc but it gets stuck with the steady James (,my opinion) where as naismith is more forward thinking and would instantly be looking to play forward rather than sideways.i would bring james or Williams on to save a game not win it. I would leave it to LM to organise in front of back 4 and naismith but think we have the players to be front foot from there.

It also wouldn't have Joe Williams in it which would be a boost

I would replace James with naismith, naismith is a forward passer looking for openings James is a safety first negative passer neither has pace both can sit in front of defence but for me a big difference in end product. Maybe.

                Oleary

    Tanner vyner dickie pring

                naismith

    Sykes     Knight      mehmeti ( bell)

             Wells         conway

With subs to hold out or push on

    Tgh James Williams cornick

Hmm not easy to pick .I probably change opinion after every game

If you had listened to his presser, you will see that a young manager with that much drive, ambition and knowledge will never be a 'yes' man to anyone or allow anyone to divert him from the path he is on.

He was really impressive and so articulate.

He knows where he is heading and nothing is going to get in his way, and we could be on that journey with him.

This is his biggest opportunity to do something in his management career so far, Decent championship side with good fan base I think a good squad with a few additions in Jan he must be over the moon to have this chance I am quietly excited.

They are too wide compared to Semenyo, Martin and Wiemann when they had their purple patch. It just ends up with people being isolated and crosses into no one. Not a fan. I don’t think we’d lose that much from forward play if we went back to a system that played 2 up front.

Absolutely right 3 spread out hadn't worked conway no good on his own in the middle ,basically he is just being battered by giant centre half's on his own and its is usually 2 .he is not an aerial ball winner he needs a partner to work gaps with on the floor like Wells don't know why we persevere with it..

Tbf to him, that chelsea side which won the champions league was all his. Tuchel did well to win it of course but think he’d of got them that trophy as well. He’s a pretty decent coach, just never deserved a job as big as Chelsea that soon, we all know why he got it. The Everton job would make anyone look average, manager graevyard ever since Moyes left. This is the sort of job he needs now. Security of a solid championship team who he can build with. Certainly puts us in the limelight more for players and coverage too.

Agree let's be honest we are unfortunately a decent championship side only, with again a decent chance of taking off. Good strong fan base and currently a decent top 10 squad injuries aside.Bristol is one of the best places to be in uk outside of London if I was Frank lampard I would be thinking I need to do something soon to prove I can cut it as a manager and somewhere like bristol city is a perfect opportunity, He would bring a lot of interest to our club and I think I would enjoy the ride as long as it lasted. We don't really expect to be in the prem soon and I don't think he would get us relegated so why not.i think he is a tracksuit manager and that might make a difference nige wasn't. That's not knocking nige just making a change.I think he is a decent shout.

They are extremely well paid professional players and would be very surprised and disappointed if they did anything less than 100%, also may have anew manager watching which could shape their future

I think Curtis is a good guy to have left,it

A lot of the posts over the last 24 hours have got overblown. Hopefully we’ve slept on it & now have a bit more perspective.

NP brought a lot of positives but let’s not kid ourselves, he can be difficult, we’ve collectively scratched our heads about subs & tactics and if he can’t manage the owners than he isn’t dynamic enough for this particular club’s needs.

What we don’t know is how NP is received throughout the rest of the club & if he’s as hard to work with as his reputation suggests.

I’m incredibly grateful for what he’s done in clearing out the overpaid disinterested players & instilling the positive work ethic, team spirit.

It was a brutal sacking given the availability. But football managers are well paid & they know the score. His contract will be honoured until end of the season, we all knew he wasn’t getting a new one, so this is probably makes sense to get the new guy started now before the Jan window opens. Especially if they had already started the process & found the right candidate.

There’s certainly more to it than we know & my gut is with the right appointment, squad depth & availability this group can kick on

    My thoughts too

Difference there is they got players who will run at you & shoot. I actually thought the game was calling for mehmeti not yeboah.

Yes Nige bought him as a maverick and tonight we needed a maverick to open them up,surely he was worth a run  out we are struggling for creating so Mehmet must wonder how he is going to get a chance

I watched it much earlier today but from memory, the interviewer asks if talks were positive and I don't think Nige said yes??

He said he's spoken to those two chaps, and it sounded like they were separate conversations.

He's bigging up the COO [?] which could be a ploy, and then says it could be a "baptism of fire" for the guy, so that suggests to me that difficult conversations are being had.

Nige says its not about being aggressive, but about getting your point of view across and then says something that sounds like the board are worried about our form.

I didn't take any positives from it, but Nige looked pretty calm.

Well for me that was a relaxed calm comfortable interview where he enjoyed talking ,no hint of frustration or irritation it seemed to me  like he felt his comments at the weekend were heard and somewhat listened too by people higher-up.maybe he feels his points were taken on board but not expecting anything so feels comfortable in himself for what he said, he knows he can do no more with what is available and people higher up can't really argue that.injuries have cursed us for a few seasons and with a smaller squad and big players out what can he do.I believe a fully fit squad and off field team Nige has assembled is a top 10 squad and luck with injuries a top 6 squad. In good hands with Nige.

He was largely at fault for Stoke's first goal too with a very weak header out.

Much better suited to defensive midfield role.

We could put Pring LCB and Roberts LB until Vyner fit.

This interview was started earlier today in another thread.

It seems to have gone under the radar a little.

When I first read it...I thought he was quoted as saying ' play offs minimum'...but read it again...it's not quoted, it's a statement by the journalist, where NP responds that he needs a good season as it's the last year in his contract.

He's made a few interviews recently talking about his life outside of football. This one again underlines it even more.

I get a gut feeling this maybe his last season as manager with us. It's all pointing that way. Just in the way he speaks about doing other things in life...and not just living for football.

I like him but that reads to me that football is not his priority in life which is ok, but for me that doesn't work. We need a manager who is very hungry for success now and in the future. If he is now thinking of his age and meeting his bucket list he is not right for us.i watched him in his seat on Saturday on TV and he was relaxed and quiet like he was daydreaming. He has done well over an awkward period here but I didn't like  how that piece came across at all. We need a hungry ambitious manager not someone who has done most things in football and is thinking of things he doesn't want to miss out on .or it me reading it wrong.

This is an interesting summary, and I agree with you on some points, but others I have to disagree.  IMO there was never a period in the first half when we controlled the game, or was on top.  It was just a period of average play from both sides that cancelled each other out. I also felt that Cornick never caused any problems for Birmingham. He ran around and got into some good positions but never did anything meaningful with the possession. As for “ Generally we weren’t bad”, well, if that wasn’t a bad performance god help us if we do have one (zero shots on target and of the others not one forced Ruddy to make a decent save)

    Have to agree with pongo

    That’s a bit cynical CR.
Do you suppose that the coaches ad the players just aimlessly run around with a ball at their feet up at Failand?

Sorry robbo lobbing a ball in from a throw in is hoping for a lucky knock on not something that has been worked out its a useful tool but it ends up down to luck.and long may we keep getting a lucky knock on .
