Always a good compère on hignfy and a very good Henry VIII

Plays in a blues band as well. Very talented man. Well, apart from trying to wind people up on a football forum. He couldn’t wind a clock

I think the one genuine question mark for me is to what extent Max Bird is being brought in to replace James' role in the team. (For clarity, I've not seen loads of Bird so they could be completely different players but, from what I've read and the little I've seen, I get the impression Bird plays a similarity role for Derby). If there is a genuine belief we're signing a younger player who is a genuine upgrade on James then I can see why the club might not extend the contract given he is a high earner. But that's the only possible argument I can see against given an extension given his value to the team. I don't even see James' age as a major concern - 32 is not that old for a a player who keeps himself in shape and James' game isn't based on lung-bursting athleticism in any case.

I’ve never seen max bird play unless he was in the derby side that got relegated. Agree about James. He’s never had pace so he’s not going to lose any & if he has knight around him it’s not a problem . It might be a decision out of mannings hands , but If it was me I’d be on tinnion’s case daily about giving him a new contract. As a young & ( learning on the job coach) you need good experienced pros the help you . I really do fear for our championship status if we lose all our experience. They’re not the end of career feet up type players of the past . They’re top pros that are vital to the dressing room .

On this point, I do agree.

If it was a choice of keeping MJ or JW, then it’s MJ for me (provided we go out and get that dynamic attacking midfielder to complement him - assuming Twine does not stay).

He’s not staying imo . Burnley want £5m and he’s not worth that. Twine doesn’t play in central midfield though & it was refreshing to see knight next to Matty yesterday . Knight has the legs Matty hasn’t and I thought they complimented each other very well.

New to this site. Don’t go to many games now but have been to many over nearly 50 years. Would love to see city in the top division again but it has to be done without risking the existence of the club. Steve lansdown has given the club a sound footing but why should he spend all his money chasing the premier league. As I say I’m new here, see a lot of negativity to Bristol sport. Why is that?

Obviously a troll . Before I tell you to **** off , I’d just like to say I loved you in band of brothers

Not at all. If you read my subsequent contributions to this thread you’ll see I’ve addressed that in a subsequent post. I cannot deny that it’s a valuable contribution to the team but it ultimately isn’t what gets me out of my seat and excited/entertained. So for me personally, I struggle to get overly enthused or wax lyrical about MJ.

He’s a good player, and he’s undoubtedly valuable to the style of play we want to achieve. However, I hope Twine is the advanced midfielder we’ve been lacking, and that the combination of them both will get me out of my seat, excited.

I haven’t read past the post I responded to so apologies if it’s been covered. Every team needs a Matty James . You can’t have a Scott twine (who won’t be with us next season ) creating if you haven’t got a player like Matty . He’s not a defensive midfielder as such although I don’t like the modern fixation with pigeon holing players , especially midfielders . He moves players around . He’ll drag opposition players out of position by his subtle movement . He’s very good at finding space. It’s no coincidence we’re a poorer side when he’s not available & he’ll be a massive loss on & off the pitch next season . Players trust him . He’s a 7-8 out of ten every week . Take just 5 minutes of our next game to just watch him . I did against West Ham . He makes us tick

I like MJ, but certainly don’t buy into the hype in this thread.

Keeps the ball moving, granted. But I don’t see enough of him playing the incisive or “killer” pass.

Favours the safe option far too much for me (though you could argue that’s the tactics we set up with I suppose also).

Killer passes are not his game . You’ve completely missed what he does. He knits us together he dictates games and our play goes through him .

  7. I watched the 15 minute highlights on Sky this morning . Poor play all round but Zak actually calls for the ball when marked . Max should never pass to him but why is he calling for it.

I posted last week what an excellent pre-match interview Matty James gave. Yesterday showed he is right to praise Liam so highly for all the detailed work on the opposition; we did one over on Leicester. How many times in the last few seasons have we come away from AG and said the opposition had 'done a job on us' by working out our limited tactics? Plenty times. I reckon the coaching team did a great job in setting up to beat Leicester and Vardy's chances apart (he must be mates with Zak!) we were well worth the win. So many of us walked back to the Robins buzzing - what a great feeling

So the post asks a hyp0thetical question. If Liam has to choose between Matty or Williams to retain who would you choose? Assume fitness and wages are identical

Give Jon a nudge & ask him why Matty James isn’t getting a new contract . Stop brown nosing it’s ******* 🤮🤮

With all due respect there has been loads of posts on here and you expect me to see everything you post and pick it out

Well you’ve replied to everyone except that one . It’s all subjective I get that . I just don’t understand the argument of a club is bigger than another in the here & now because like I said history defines them. There are small , medium , big clubs . Then the likes of Man U , Liverpool , Arsenal , a largely un forgotten but original “big four” Everton . All,  plus others have won massive honours consistently . They couldn’t be big clubs if they didn’t have the history to back it up .
in 130 years , we’ve had 9 seasons on the top flight & one fa cup final . Compared to the gas we’re Real Madrid . The reality is unfortunately , we’re a small club

in Europe , would you say Ajax are a big club . Today no , but their academy , winning four European cups  & along with the national side total football of the 70’s have been a big part of the European cup. Just like Blackpool , Preston , Huddersfield with their history have been a massive part of football league history .

Exactly, can you remember us making the FA Cup final

That’s not winning a trophy is it . I notice you didn’t reply to my to my Liverpool, Man U & Arsenal post.
when in a hole , stop digging .
also , you do realise that the team we lost to have gone on to create a dynasty in English football. It might not of happened (probably would) with out that first win . Therefore history defines a club

I think we all deserve to have a little fun; perhaps at the negative **** who seem to think the only point of this forum is criticize my/our club we support. We could start a new threat naming & shaming those who find think it's hilarious to be smug & highly critical of our management and all good things BCFC

Lets start naming Silvio, BCFC 31, Cloudy, Uno, Ivan - all these people who will NOT read this post because it will make them chew so much humble pie they will hate waking up tomorrow to realize what total chumps they've made themselves look, that we did beat a Prem club with a bench today worth £95m, that Liam has yet again shown the football world he is smart and can get an average team to beat the best. I loved today even more knowing those we can name will have a horrible day; lets hope they also have a horrible day on Monday when they'll be unable to roll out their pre-written and predictable complaints about all those guys who do so much to help BCFC. I think a few of them will be man enough to own up and say we were again a good team today, all playing for the shirt, in front of a sell-out crowd at our great stadium and where Bristol Sport did absolutely nothing wrong.

Oh, and by the way anyone who enjoyed today and posts positively may be told by the neggies that they work for B.Sport - hilarious

    I I Jon lansdowns had a drink
