The Arsenal shirt is £70, with £5 of that going to community charities in North London. Pretty sure most Premier League clubs offer an "Authentic" shirt for £100 thats just there to con people out of money. Our kit is no longer on the website to purchase (new kit soon?) but was around £50-£55 if I remember rightly? A £15 increase for a considerably bigger club with probably a better quality shirt (all the Hummel stuff I've bought has felt pretty cheap) doesn't seem that crazy to me.

Sadly that's the way it is now. I'd rather spend the money on a retro shirt but each to their own.

I’m tempted to say we should wait and see just how expensive our kits might be next year… £60 wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Well - when I re read the question I’d still ask

    Luton ?

Bournemouth ? When did they play at new Wembley ?

    Maybe dementia is setting in

Bournemouth and Newcastle both played at Wembley against Spurs when they were having White Hart Lane tarted up!

I can’t think who the missing name is… Barrow?

I suppose Everton as its a long time since we played them in the league and I've never seen us win at Goodison whereas I've seen us win at Turf Moor and Elland Road. But while Leeds is, a s**t hole a trip to Burnley isn't too bad. Depending on the time of year it could mean a weekend in Blackpool and the pie and peas in the cricket club next door are pretty good.

Bloody hell - Leeds is a sh1thole but Blackpool and Burnley are ok???

You’ve obviously found different versions of those places to the ones I know (and I live up t’north!!!). ????

Re Duff, his mentor is…. Cotts - small world…

Yeah I thought that…. The irony…. SL to appoint Cotts MkII. You couldn’t make it up…. So it’s equally likely to the LJ/JM rumour. Nothing should surprise us!

I remember. back in the day, coining a phrase about exactly this culture, when GL was manager, his brother was chief scout and his son was a player. I said that the time that the mentality was that of a corner shop proprietor. Now we have something that resembles a slightly larger enterprise - perhaps a small department store, say - a mostly absent proprietor and his son at the helm. Nothing much has changed, fundamentally, has it?

Great post….. we’re the new Grace Bothers (there’s one for the kids!).
    or maybe Woolworths…

Looks like all those pesky online retailers and out of town stores have pulled our pants down.

Pearson also said something along the lines, that Ashton was good to work with and had done a good job. Fast forward a season and he might say something different now. They say what they have to say at that point. LJ has also said he could write a book on what went on behind the scenes, there’s a reason he didn’t say it at the time, he liked his job! COYR

No wonder Warnock was never considered… can you imagine the home truths!

I think, as a business, we’re now worryingly a combination of a family business and invited members-only club.

Haven't said we should go back to him, but with someone like Ashton above him deny or refuse him too often and you'd be the one out of the job. Also know LJ wasn't allowed to recall players from loan that he wanted around the match day squad and told to leave them out on loan.

In fairness, Lee went along with the whole system/process for a long time…. Towards the end he started having a veiled pop at the way things were done… fast forward to NP… more veiled pops…

Do the Lansdowns strike fear into people to an extent that veiled comments/suggests are the best they can do?? I know it’s not popular on here but I don’t really blame Ashton, not a very likeable guy but for me he was only doing the job he was asked to by the owners… he was never sacked, they must have rated him. For me MA = SL.

He didn’t. The one I know for certain is that prior to signing Nagy, we were about to resign Skuse. LJ was “given” Nagy and told he couldn’t have Skuse.

If that happened on that deal, you can bet it happened on others

Well why did he say he had final l sign-off?
he could have said “I work with what I’m given and I’m happy to work that way”.
Saying what he said was either true or shows him as a weak “yes” man or was just a downright stupid thing to say/a lie.
Whatever it is, is a good reason never to hire him again.

Head coaches/managers say a lot and not always the truth, I believe Szmodics was a Ashton signing because he saw the potential of profit in Szmodics, Johnson’s quote at the time was along the lines that he had to be convinced but the stats presented made the case of someone they had to sign

Well then he’s weak for accepting a player he didn’t want and a liar about having final sign-off…. None of which presents him in a positive light!

We shouldn’t go back to LJ.

  10. 7 hours ago, Lrrr said:

Wasn’t the story LJ had to be convinced for a long time for the club to sign Szmodics and wasn’t keen on him, whereas he wanted Kasey if he could get a full pre season with him and instead got given him shortly before the season

Agree.  Also, LJ had final sign off on all signings. How do I know? He said!!!! They were all his signings.
If Ashton forced them on him, that shows LJ as weak - another reason to not go near him!

Zak Vyner, what is he ? How did he become a professional footballer.

Gave the ball away 3 times with his first 4 touches, played a crossfield pass that went out for a goal kick and was so late in one tackle that he nearly took the wingers leg off ( no idea how he didn't get booked for that).

I think the question is… why’s he gone backwards so fast under Pearson? He look a real prospect a while back, especially in midfield.

Whilst I have every faith that we’re capable of losing the next 5 games Barnsley have realistically got to win all 6 of their matches.

Huddersfield, West Brom, Preston and Swansea stand in their way.

Blackpool and Posh are the other two.

Worrying for next season that we’ve still to be mathematically safe despite a decent team having 21 points deducted and a dogshit team having a 6 point penalty.

Yes it’ll be interesting to see whether we’d survive on purely footballing league (not one affected by financial irregularities) after 46 games or whether we get to the magic 50 points or whether we take more points than last season…. All doubtful.

I have no idea what he’s on about anymore tbh.

Said that we need to change players in the summer that don’t have the right personality, today especially. Okay let’s dissect that:

Bentley - one of the best keepers in the league. Out the team now back in. Wouldn’t say he’s one of the ones NP is talking about.

Cundy - inexperienced player at this level. Went off at 1-0 up. Wouldn’t say he’s one of the ones either.

Klose - Pearson’s signing. Is the managers fault if he already doesn’t fancy him.

Atkinson - Pearson’s signing. Is the managers fault if he already doesn’t fancy him. also scored the goal.

JD - the only one with any shred of credit over the last 10 games or so. Bombed out the side now back in.

James - Pearson’s signing. Is the managers fault if he already doesn’t fancy him. NP said he’s the best midfielder he’s ever worked with. Can’t be him.

Scott - one of the best players we’ll ever produce. Would be in a world of trouble without him. Can’t be him.

Williams - NP has said how much he rates him. Coming back from injury. Can’t be him.

Weimann - can’t be him for a multitude of reasons.

    Wells - maybe him

Martin - as honest & experience as a pro could be at this level. Can’t be him.

So who the **** is the issue if it’s not the management and set up?

    Good post!
I shouldn’t worry about trying to make sense of it. NP says every few weeks that he’ll change the team, change the players, get rid of them…. He said it just before the Jan window.  Nothing ever seems to change and I’d have thought part of his job was getting the best from what he has, improving them. Maybe that’s another part of the job he doesn’t like - along with transfers, agents, the media, coaching and accepting any responsibility.

  14. James and the Leicester connection have been unbelievably predictable:

James - injury prone career. Misses a large chunk of the season injured and not the same player since.
Simpson - looked fat and useless on loan last season. Turned out to be fat and useless.
King - nice bloke who’s made no impact anywhere for 2-3 years. Signs for City… turns out to be a nice bloke but made no impact.
Pearson - nothing of note since leaving Leicester… nothing here… so far.

Can't argue with any of that. Han Noah is the one where we will get the least money for though I think.

Agree with that and also, Weimann won’t command much of a few if anyone wants him (age/length of contract). On current form he’s worth way more to us than his market value*
