Bringing back memories of Big Mick.  I had that kit.  Lush.

Villa’s away kit was nice too.

I had that one. Toss up for me between that and the Umbro one as our best ever.
I agree with the posters saying we should wear black shorts. Red and white lacks identity. I like what Sampdoria do with their plain blue and white…. The stripe makes it unique. We could do similar and claim an identity.

  2. Good news I reckon. I think it’s only their home kit but it makes sense to hold a home kit and build a bit of tradition/identity over 2/3/4 years….. and not rip off supporters as much as they do now.
As a pay-off let teams do what they want and have as many change kits as they like.

have a look at the table the bottom three clubs will be below us at the end of the season. we are buying players in january and will have a different line up for the last three months of the season

At least one of them will have a massive point deduction.
I admire your optimism but you could have said the same thing after our awful end to last season, about the start of this season, as you have about January.
Pearson hasn’t got anything going here. Do you trust him with transfers? Presumably he’s looking through his little black book of injured ex-Leicester players as we speak.

Bristol city are a ******* disgrace. If anyone thinks we are mid table and not in a relegation battle, they are sadly mistaken. Absolute pitiful display. Nothing about what I’ve seen today makes me think we have the quality or ideas to do anything with this crop of players.

We’re a disgrace -  image how bad we’d look if the point deductions were added on? That’s masking a relegation standard team - one that’s worse than when NP took over IMO.

We need to get shot of Pearson, bring in Warnock and start playing men’s football with a bit of organisation and purpose.

I'm not so sure from Pearson's comments that he is on the discard pile. I wondered if he had been but Pearson's comments seem to be far more saying "look, you know you're not in form and you're making mistakes but you've got to push through it. We rate you and want you to succeed here but you've got to do some of the work yourself".

Hopefully you’re right. We also need him settled in one position… if he’s still dealing with the step up then being shunted around the pitch won’t help and isn’t fair.

  6. For me he looked best in midfield. He’s pretty comfortable on the ball, can pass, has a shot on him and height is an asset.
Needs to reduce the errors but they are less often punished from midfield.

I’m  disappointed that he seems to be on NP’s discard pile. Agree the the arm ‘round shoulder comment above. I’d rather see the new management/coaching team looking to improve him (and others), especially as they’re former defenders. To counteract the small squad point, we also have a small budget, so making the best of what we’ve got is sensible rather than trading and bringing new/additional players in.

I'm trying to ignore them both… What's done is done… they were enabled to do what they did. Time to move on.

    C'mon Nige!

That’s how I see it….. they both did what they were allowed to. The regret is the money and opportunity afforded the pair of them achieved nothing in a material footballing sense.

  8. It’s all interesting speculation but January is some time away.
3 games in a week, 2 at home, I’m more interested in seeing whether NP can get a tune out of what he has… so far it’s been a lot of talk and “jam tomorrow”. If results (and hopefully performances) don’t improve it might not be NP’s problem to decide who goes in January.
The blame and binning of players is frustrating it would seem better to me if we were also seeing other players doing their jobs well and improving with good coaching… I’ve not seen a lot of evidence!

Are we a potentially good investment? The infrastructure is there, good catchment area, one of the most desirable cities in the UK, and have no competition. I’d like to think so.

Hard to tell as we’re now tangled up with the rest of Bristol Sport. Unless the stadium and training ground are included then it’s hard to see what there is to invest in.

    Conway, too.

Despite what The Post & Robins TV might say, that particular boat sailed a while ago..

The boat might have sailed. Depends whether his boat or Niger’s is out of the harbour first!  He could yet get another opportunity with another manager.

Statement purely to laid the foundations of announcing him missing another game this weekend imo

Hope he gets well soon. But basically saying he wasn’t totally right for 5/6 games before Coventry (or words to that effect) & now still home-ridden for another week-ish at least isn’t a great sign

I think you’re right about him not being back for the weekend - even if he’s there it seems almost impossible to believe he’ll be anywhere near up to speed.
The club is in a tricky position but with 3 games in a week coming up, things will probably come to a head.

Yes, that is a possibility, especially as between him and SL there is a plan in place.

RG’s quote is the clarity he needed to give last week.

We just have to await further updates as match day gets closer….and then beyond.

It’s so tricky for all involved. The real issue to me is that this isn’t like a broken leg where you are fit or not fit….
If NP is back to work on Monday morning, he won’t be straight back to full-time work…. surely? How does this all fit with an all-encompassing role like football manager.

A move “upstairs” is sensible….. however he’s not the man for corporate dealing/agents etc. He’d be helpful to an inexperienced manager…. However an inexperienced manager is the last thing we need! IMO we need Warnock…. and the last thing he needs is a young un like Nige telling him what to do!!!

    in short…. It’s a bloody nightmare!!!

    get well soon Nige!

If Pearson was unable to fulfil his duties to an adequate level due to the illness the best thing would be to use his expertise in a slightly different role, working alongside a new head coach.

Agree…. Trouble is no one will know how temporary or permanent this will be.  That’s going to make decision making harder but you’d imagine the we longer the situation (and poor form) continue the quicker big decisions will need to be made.

Surely this should be discouraged for his own sake?

If it is Long Covid then I guess that’s the nature of it, he can do bits and pieces but not a full role…. Lack of energy etc.
The question for the club is - how long can we run with a part-time manager? The suggestion seems to be that we have been in this position for a month or so…. And the end product hasn’t been good so far.
It’s all speculation and his health is the only important thing. If he can’t carry on, so be it, we’ll have to replace him and keep paying him - it’s no different to the out of favour players we end up paying to do nothing or, for that matter, a player with a long-term  injury.

    FWIW

Wilson 6 good football, achieved nothing

Tinnion 5 City through and through, unlucky Tins

    Johnson 9 what's there to complain about promotion, 4th, 10th, 10th

    Coppell 1 Weirdo

Millen 6 Underrated, 15th with that squad was fine.

Mciness 5 had potential, didn't deliver.

SOD 4 not a city man in that he didn't understand us but laid the groundwork.

Cotterell 8 Great manager, tainted by poor start to the Champ, shouldn't have been sacked

Johnson 7 Unbelievable memories of 2017/18, 2nd highest place finish in what 40 odd years. Spent a bit. Think some of his bad points can be attributed to Ashton

Holden 5 Not for me , not terrible but we were on a terrible spiral

Pearson 5 done nothing yet, history will tell, don't want him out but all to do

Agree with all the comments. I’d knock Pearson down to 4. Big job and illness but still the record is shocking.

I have been watching city since the 70's as I recall not one of our managers has been approached by another club, all have been sacked !!!!!

I was about to agree with you…. But then…. My memory is messing with me but didn’t Pulis go to Portsmouth and not actually get sacked?
regardless - your point stands, I don’t even remember any rumours. For all the chat about LJ no one ever came in for him.

    Absolutely, just ridiculous.

I get it is subjective but Gary Johnson 6? He got us promoted in his first full season & in the playoff final the year after, at least an 8.

    Agree about GJ (as above).
John Ward seems to get increasingly underrated by City fans. Ge was, ultimately, undermined by the board… he got us promoted playing good football and, it’s not really relevant to this debate, he is a really good bloke.

Agreed. Putting Pearson level with Gary Johnson and Steve Cotterill is absurd. Also, why does Pearson get two points more than Holden?

I got as far as the Johnsons…. The one with a promotion and play-off appearance scoring lower than the one with successive mid-upper-mid table finishes (and had full access to Steve’s wallet!). What nonsense!

Also agree, I can’t think of any measure of his City performance that, at present, puts Pearson ahead of Holden.
