I believe that tie was a main driver for them stopping the club above being involved due to the trouble that followed - the thinking being that, if you miss out on promotion, you`re just disappointed but if it means you go down it all kicks off. I think there was major trouble in Sheffield that night.

Yes, but that was in the Eighties. You would hope there wouldn't be quite the same issue nowadays.

I always liked the idea of a team having to 'defend' their higher division status. In fact, I think 3rd and 4th (4th and 5th in L2) vs the first two 'safe' teams in the higher division would be awesome.

  2. As an Evertonian (after City, obviously), I have to say that I think they are gone this time.

They just have no decent strikers. You only have to note that any goal that they score is medium to long range from a defender or midfielder to know that they are in the s*** big time.

When you are relying up front on a raw youngster, Nicky ****ing Maupay??? and praying for the return of someone that is more interested in wearing skirts on catwalks, then you have a serious problem.

Levels have improved since Xmas. Last few games he’s been fab. Technically brilliant and gifted,  I have no idea of his wages but probably in the top 3 or 4 at City.

The question I ask myself is Jay one of our top 3 or 4 players week in week out?  Sometimes he is but not been consistent enough for me.

We are in a different financial situation now and although JD is not a luxury player, Pring plus another could be a better option imo

    Wouldn't argue with that.

Would love us to find a way for him to stay though.

And without knowing, I think that Nige would too.

Totally agree on the point that jays limitations are non negotiable “must haves” for Pearson, he will no doubt move on. I am pleased to see we have a plan we are building against, sadly that does mean some good players may not fit. He leaves with my best wishes (if he wants them haha)

    Balanced post.

I love Jay, and I thought he was awesome tonight.

People saying that he was a bad signing need to have their computers or phones confiscated.

Another poor purchase who needs to be off the wage bill!

    F******g really??!!

Out of the Chelsea trio he has been easily the best.

I would have a word with yourself if I were you.

  6. Absolutely.

To let him go without an offer would be criminal in my book.

It's obvious that Nige likes him.

He will in all likelihood get a better offer elsewhere, and that in itself should tell you that we should at least be offering him something.

What you can say is that he looks like 1) he’s adapting to the team and 2) the team are adapting to him.  Good signs second half v Stoke too.  What we’ve seen in the last 114 minutes is more like Harry Cornick who was a pest at Luton.  That’s a good thing.

    Agree on the one-game positivity.

    DAVEFEVS IN TALKING SENSE SHOCKER!!

    (not)

One of Danny Wilson’s numerous baffling transfer deadline day (blimey, remember that? Junior Bent & Nicky Morgan in 89/90, much more like it!) signings that made absolutely no impression whatsoever.

Caskey was an unused sub for us several times but he never even got on the pitch.

Tony Hey was an even more obscure one.

As you say Caskey resembled Beadle after his playing career, the problem was he was still meant to be a footballer.

Remember watching him, so he definitely did get on the pitch.

This is most certainly not in the same league as this awful and tragic news, nevertheless, it is a related sickening and shameful reflection on our Club. I sometimes reach out to away fans, via their forums, to help inform the match thread. I got this response a couple of days ago from a Blackpool fan.

‘Hi, at the end of the 2001/2 season City came to Bloomfield Road on a promotion charge; Blackpool scrapping to avoid a relegation battle to the bottom division. City came in large numbers. The 5 -1 score line derailed City badly. Unfortunately, the behaviour of some of the Bristol fans was humiliating to their club. I was with my daughters aged 7 and 5 and we got attacked by about 10 City fans outside the ground (wholly unprovoked or stimulated) - until some older City fans (mainly older couples) stepped in (which I will always be grateful for). My girls were shaking and trembling, seeking protection behind my back. I had a bloody nose and bust lip. For that reason I see most of your support as the lowest life in the football league, having no ethics or integrity. You have a lovely city but Rovers are the only team I can respect and always come to Blackpool in larger 'nosier' numbers. That may be not what you wanted to hear but facts are facts, sorry. My son and his mate will be there on Saturday and I wish you all the best.‘

So they were attacked by City fans and City fans stepped in to help. Yet all of our fans are the lowest life in league football.

We have scum. So do they, in all likelihood.

  10. Knee injury.

So basically a recurrence of what he's just come back from.

So now we pray for the return of a central defender that's actually better in front of the back four.

    Not good.

Not being pessimistic, but I obviously am by the nature of the question , however well  we play if Man City really turn it on we won’t be going into the draw for the next round , but at what point if and big if they starting running away with the game what goal margin does it start to feel uncomfortable,

my personal opinion would be any thing past 3 , remember this lot of no problem putting 5 and 6 past some prem teams .
for me as the cliche goes this is a free hit , Cardiff at the weekend is much more important for all of us I would imagine just wouldn’t like going into that game with a big dent in our confidence if again big if we get dicked tonight .

We have an excellent man manager. I genuinely think that if we lose 0-8 tonight it will not be good news for Cardiff.

We were pretty ineffectual up front tonight. Cornick had very little to play off, but at least looks more mobile than Martin. Weimann looked rusty and we know he’s better through the middle than out wide. Mehmeti showed a lot of promise and might even be the answer to who eventually replaces Scott. Talking of whom, he had one of his less inspired performances today even if he had a header hit the bar. Prong was also a little below par today by his high standards recently. The one player who really stood out for me tonight was Joe Williams. Cleared up at the back, provided an outlet in midfield and tried to drive forward when he had the ball. One of his best performances in a City shirt.

Hopefully Benarous will be the replacement for Scott when fit.

Amazes me how people have assumed that we will need to sign a replacement, when if his injury is properly managed, we may already have an equally exciting prospect ready to go.

Will take time, adjusting. Had some good touches as he did on Saturday. Looked rusty to me. Reminds me of Kodjia a bit but not as good.

Oh don't get me wrong, not hanging him out to dry after his first 90 mins.

But we desperately needed an outlet up front, and he should have provided it.

Wasn't sorry to see Martin go, but put him in instead of Cornick in the first 30 mins of that second half and we win imo. Was delighted and relieved when Nahki replaced him.

It's a child and clearly a child. He posed no danger.

I ran on the pitch numerous times when I was younger.

    So did I.

It wasn't against the rules then as I recall.

I guess it comes down to the facts of 'manhandled'. ?
