I never felt Lampard would do much at Everton. That football club is a shit lined poisoned plastic beaker of mediocrity. Metaphorically of course.

Who would do something there though? They have signed garbage after rubbish. This is the club that paid 27m for Yannick Bolaise for the love of god. (Who was it that spent our 30% of that?)

The board are getting shit but Kenwright has backed every idiot he and his mates have put in a position to spend stupidly. I guess it’s a job for LJ!

Despite being somewhat of an Everton fan, I like that.

    And it's accurate.

  2. As the OP clearly stated current managers of other clubs, not ex City or past managers, I think I would say Marco Silva. Like his personality and how he comes across in interviews.

As someone with a blue persuasion as far as the City of Liverpool is concerned, it's a shame Everton are such a cluster**** of a club. Both him and Benitez could have been successful there, but I think we're deprived of the chance .

I agree with this. SL's plan has generally seemed to be the same as long as I can remember - "Throw money at it - then tighten our belts when its doesn't work".

What that's meant is we're in this constant cycle of (relative) feast or famine. No, or very little sustainability, as you say.

When he realised he couldn't fast track it on the pitch and banged his head against a wall (covered large losses) for a decade, he finally invested in the infrastructure, great but it was at least 5 years late coming.

And he as constantly let himself down with his appointments. Many wrong choices and often the good choices have been at the wrong time - he only brings in the experienced head when we need to tighten our belt - then he gambles all on red when we do have some cash to spend.

I've always said SL's heart is in the right place and over the whole picture he's been great for the club, but by god, in the depths of night i'm sure he'd think for hours about how he'd like to start over and do it all differently.

Certainly a huge legacy though IMO.

Bang on. Not always the wrong managers, but usually at the wrong time.

Nige wasn't brought in to get City in the top 6, or even the top 10.

Anyone who thought that was a possibility at this stage, considering the shit show he inherited, and little or no money to spend, is in dreamland.

He was brought in to cull the squad of cosy non triers who were bleeding the club dry with no return and he's made huge strides in that direction, and continues to do so.

It needed a particular type of manager to have the gravitas to come in change the whole culture of the club, and Nige continues to be that man afaic.

We must stay up throughout this change, of course, but as long as we do, the job he was initially brought in for continues to be done, and a further raft of overpaid players we don't want here are off the books this summer.

Then he has the opportunity to sign the players and characters he wants for his squad and we can truly judge if he is the man to not only stabilise the club, but take it forward.

SL knows he got lucky with Pearson - his club post his wild LJ indulgences and extravagances was in a complete mess both squad wise and financially.

If he sacks him now it will be yet another terrible decision from him to add to the majority of his previous bloody awful managerial decisions and we'll almost certainly be in freefall imo.

    Thank God for Nogbad.

Over the whole game the better side has gone through, but it was certainly interesting. The Dutch change of tactics worked to get them to extra time and penalties but, as John Beck found out, route one football can only take you so far.

Were the Dutch penalties route one then? ?

    So summing up then;

Win lose or draw Sat NP wont walk away; SL isnt going to twist until NP reaches 1/10 wins as he did with lj and may not even then (currently 1/7 at home 2/13 all); it will take a prolonged stay in bottom 3 for most to worry; we need the upcoming WC break (as do the other teams) the next transfer window could improve us (and others) We are 20th in this div and possibly 1 more defeat from a relegation place, WBA currently in the last relegation place have a game in hand and are 3pts behind.

Our current form is down to injuries/illness/poor refs/fine lines/bad luck and what ifs and not NP team/player selections.

OK thats cool hope you all have an exciting WC and break be in touch again when we are in the Zone.

It's a totally different situation. You can't quantify it in the same terms re winning or losing runs etc.

There is an argument that says if Johnson was sacked after one win in ten, notwithstanding that he survived at least two atrocious runs prior to that, then Pearson should be nowhere near the sack yet.

You can't compare Johnson or Johnson's situation to either Pearson or Pearson's situation.

The two situations are chalk and cheese. As, for that matter, are the people.

The rest of the interview (29 mins in total) talks about many other things, inc:

    • how reliant we are on a small number of key players, he calls them critical, and they’ve not been available  since the last break
    • how we’ve not got any money, ie would need to sell first, couldn’t afford the CB he wanted
    • Tins role and how recruitment has been scattergun for too long
    • etc

Yeah but that wouldn't be mentioned by the OP. Doesn't fit his narrative.

At what point do you pull the trigger. If we are 22nd on Saturday night, do you not think that is a catalyst.

There is no guarantee he will motivate the players over the month off. Why should he get January to fix his own mess out?

What happens if he signs 2/3 loan players or free agents in January, sells Semenyo and moves on Massengo and then start of February, we are in the relegation zone. At that point you have set the impossible task, and relegation would be more than likely. If we seriously don't want to gamble, he gets until Xmas at the longest. If we are within 3pts of the bottom three after the West Brom game on Boxing Day, then he has to go.

I do think he should be sacked now, I think if we lose on Saturday he definitely has to go, but I wont stand in the stands chanting Pearson out, as that doesn't help the players on the pitch. But if he is still here after Saturday, I think the club have to publicly give him a vote of confidence and make it clear, in this position around Boxing Day and he has to be shot of, before he can do more damage in January.

    Rubbish.

Yeah, now firmly in the NP out camp, especially as others are using this break to reassess rebuild and use it as a mini pre season.

Understand why Wigan pulled the trigger.

The entire bottom three have changed management in last 8 weeks or so, we've not and are slumping worryingly quickly.

2 wins in 10, only 6 scored, 18 ish conceded in all comps. Is not good and we're getting worse not better.

    Squeaky bum times

You have been in that camp for quite a while in my opinion.

I think there is another side to this as well. I have always thought there was a section of fans who are too close to the club and see it as "their club" I don't mean in the way most of the fans think of it, but almost like we are some little local league team, and that they should have some sort of say in how things are done. It's something that Harry Dolman referred to in his journals and I don't think it's really changed much. He said that there were complete outsiders turning up at Board Meetings, Harry had to almost become a dictator to get the club moving forward.

Of course we should have overall view of how things are progressing, but sometimes it feels that there are some who think the club should be run by and for them, and that's not how a professional football club works.

    This is so bang on.
