    Anyway from the Wolves forums

AlexWolve... Bristol City could win the world cup if Bristol were to become a independent nation

Dave (the homeless guy outside Tesco metro)   Bristol have the best....  *whispher   sorry...sorry   Bristol City have the best fans on the planet

Stuey   amazing how those 600 City fans managed to make more noise than Rovers. Anyone know if they dope the water in North Bristol, just I can't understand how they are so lethargic

I'm pretty sure the charchters Seaman Stains & Roger the Cabin boy were genuinely in it.

In fairness, I've not watched it since I was old enough to find the anomaly in the names.

Sadly not, it would have been a little funny if the BBC had managed to air thus unknowingly. The author of the cartoon even won libel damages from a lot of sources who printed the stories over the years including the Mirror, Sun and Guardian

When they broke the news about their new training facility at the colony, they said they'd "acquired it". That to me sounds as if they'd not,  bought it, but, maybe, agreed a lease.

In a later story by the evening post, the reporter (not the club) stated that they had bought it.

The reality is that, although the colony had previously gained planning permission, for training facilities and changing rooms. That wouldn't be anywhere near what is required for an academy. There were also some restrictions on its use, I think it was a timed restriction where the land was not to be used before 6pm during school term time, so, 39 weeks of the year, during normal school hours it couldn't be used. Perhaps they plan to train at night.

Surely nobody in their right mind would buy that land without first getting PP, would they? Is it in the company assets?

Again land registry could confirm, if there's someone with access to the site through work, they could check. I'm not paying, not even for the pleasure of proving a point.

They had the restrictions overturned so they could go ahead. They just need to put in their plans now, but for some reason they have gone into consultation mode again.

All this talk of Rovers 'stealing' the Mem was always and remains troubling to me. I never really believed such rhetoric.

Reading the rather level headed remarks below from poster 'Holmes' on the Rovers forum might be worth further analysis:~

When the Memorial Stadium Company purchased  the Mem from Arthur Holmes it was for £2.6m. Bristol Rovers were liable for half and the Rugby club the other half. When the rugby club went bust Rovers acquired their share of the stadium and the debt for £10k. Funded 50% by Barclays with a mortgage secured on the stadium and 50% by preferential shareholders. Read the accounts, it's all in there

Let's not forget that Rovers did not have the money to purchase their share of the ground so Holmes lent them quarter of a million towards it so they could do the deal. No wonder Rovers rewarded  him and the Rugby fans... Well let's not go there.

Could someone explain why the statutory records of Terramond Developments Ltd show a mortgage charge, in favour of Lloyds TSB,  still outstanding on land they used to own at Colony Farm, Hortham Lane, Almondsbury, Bristol.

No one would be daft enough to buy a piece of land without first ensuring any previous mortgage was paid off ........  would they ?

Notice that some of the ex directors of that company have connections with Bristol Rugby club.  One was director of Bristol Rugby club in 1998 when they sold the mem to Rovers. So some close ties, maybe Terramond is/was a holding company for either Rovers or Bristol Rugby that got swept up in the Wael purchase, hence how they ended up with the Colony. I wonder if the money they paid for the colony went to this little clique, or maybe they took on the mortgage relieving some people of some debt as part of their purchase.

  6. Well my Uncle (life long Rovers supporter) has been pretty reluctant to believe concerns mentioned to him about Wael and Dwayne sports. Today we were chatting and he mentioned he is starting to have doubts, I asked what changed his mind he mentioned that Rovers supporters he knows (and their forum) have started to awake to the fact all is not well. They are just not sure what is wrong. So they do get there in the end guys - just a bit slow out of the blocks.

I may have skipped over this bit. Have they actually an application in, and does anyone know what they have 'planned' ??
Perhaps the Billionaire has sneaked in plans for a 27,001 all seater with me noticing.

A few months back they were looking at other clubs facilities for ideas. They said they liked Fleetwoods set up and it would match he clubs vision going forward. Problem is it costs Fleetwood £8 million to create Poolfoot farm.

As I understand it "inter company loans" rarely if ever are subject to interest, the term loan is used instead of investment for some sort of tax advantage I believe? The charge on the Mem could see them selling it to recoup their money, but more importantly it puts them first in line as creditors if Bristol Rovers go under. That's why they own the club in that way, Dwayne Sports would still continue to trade and find other investments if the Rovers thing doesn't work out for them and the charge would seem them get some if not of their money back.

Depends on the situation, if you owned a few companies all of which you wanted to keep trading and be a success then inter company loans are a way of moving funds around and rarely charge interest as your in essence charging yourself, there is no benefit (or costs to charging the interest). If however it was a investment opportunity, and one of the companies you owned was created purely as a speculative project, then a inter company loan to that entity would surely be charged at interest. If you want to make money on the project then interest and notification of the details in the company minutes or accounts/loan deal would be made. The money can always be put back in if you want, but if your looking for return on investment then you would use every tool available to you, and not lose potential income because auditors / accountants view it as a interest free loan. If I was a investment banker putting up millions to a side project, I know I would cover myself just in case.

True, so Bristol Sport's plan is maybe to buy Dwayne Sports at a knock down when it is liquidated / goes into administration?

Now, Bristol Sport can't own two league clubs so BRFC has to go, leaving ownership of the Memorial GROUND and a field near Almondsbury. I'd like to think that Bristol Sport knows what it would do with the stadium and the field is, well, a field.

I doubt Dwayne sports would be up for sale. They would sell just BRFC, who currently are a team in L1, with staff, wages, players on contracts, loans owed to Dwayne, a few football kits, a trade marked pirate logo, some shop merchandise and maybe some training balls (i.e. all the liabilities). Dwayne are I imagine receiving interest payments, and own all the assets, Dwayne sports has zero exposure and will in all likelihood make a profit on things regardless. They would sell the Mem to get their money back for their loans, and keep the land at the colony (land on the outskirts of growing Cities is never a bad thing (especially when it costs so little)). Is this their preferred scenario, I imagine not, but if everything fails then they have protected themselves and will walk away no worse of than they started.

Wael had a chance of making his family a nice bit of money and have a football club for himself to keep him occupied. Now we get to see if they are truly committed to running the club as a loss making hobby or cut and run when they realise there is no easy profits in most football clubs.

As for the people touting the things they have done. Rovers and Higgs got more and more desperate for cash flow in the final years, they let staff go, their ground run down as they could not afford maintenance they were running backroom as a non league team. Wael has brought them back up to L1 expectations, and started some basic maintenance at the ground (needed seeing this is there home for the forseeable future). But none of this is really costing much (and likely all done with borrowed money from DS anyway). Even people touting DC's 5 year contract as some sort of proof of commitment is non-sense, either side can terminate the contract. There is no costs to giving someone another five years, it's just word play.

Anyway, will be interesting to see what happens now, at least it will give us a few minutes entertainment before talking about real football related matters.

The following from gaschat is another winner. "They aren't billionaires because they found their money down the back of the sofa". I will correct this for them "they aren't billionaires and all they found was 20p down their sofa which will now be our rebuild fund".

I may be talking out of turn here but I am certain that the Al Quadi family will have studied, planned and sorted out all the possibilities of how the Mem will be developed. They will also know how they will get the best financial return from the new stadium. They aren't billionaires because they found their money down the back of the sofa! Maybe they are keeping their plans close to their chest because it is all part of the big bluff to UWE. I genuinely believe that UWE thought they were dealing with gullible, rich foreigners who UWE would be able to pull the wool over their eyes and basically rip them off. Maybe now they are in a state of panic and Wael announcing alternative plans is just a ruse to make UWE think they are about to miss out on a fantastic opportunity to have A1 facilities on their campsite. With no new stadium they are left with nothing. Yes, maybe they could put houses on the land and make some money that way but that is short sighted and in the long run will not benefit the campus. Build a state of the art stadium with loads of facilities for their students to use for many years is a far better option. I may be wrong but I am not 100% sure that the UWE stadium is dead in the water....yet! The family have been damned good to us and haven't let us down yet and I don't see why they would in the future. Let's be patient and see what happens. In the mean time I am going to carry on with a far more important task and that is to support the Gas no matter where they play.COYB FTG

I cannot believe some still think they are billionaires, they are thicker than flat earthers.

1982 and Dean Windass, oh and sometimes 2nd May. The Sags only comebacks in their tank and none of those stand up anymore.

1982.......2014, Colin Daniel, Rovers RELEGATED to NON LEAGUE. 35 years in the football league versus just 2...2!!!! 1982 is like water off a ducks back. Most of the Sags who spout about 1982 weren't even born because it was so far back. We even CELEBRATE 1982, we have Section 82, we honour the Ashton Gate 8 of 1982....When will you deluded Sags realise that 1982 has zero effect on the entire Bristol City fan base you absolute bunch of pikey tools?

Dean Windass - So City missed out on Premiership football - I seem to recall at the time all Sags almost being physically sick at the prospect that a team only formed in 1982 might actually reach the promised land. Every City fan knew how fortune had helped us to even get in that position in the first place. We won an awful lot of games in added time by throwing caution to the wind and piling players forward. It was hardly talking about the playoffs for an entire season whilst your team slid towards total oblivion was it? I think Colin Daniel trumps Dean Windass by an absolute country mile!!!!!

2nd May - You celebrate this day, yet in 2001 your nemesis Wycombe Wanderers sent you to the basement for the first time in your history. The 3rd of May is even more hilarious. Where is your comeback on that one?

    #Nocomebacksleftintheirlockerhencethereasontocontunuethisthreaduntiltheyfindone

Was a brilliant season capped by the chance of getting to the Premiership with a playoff final in front of 30k people - amazed that they think this is something to use as a dig at the club, it's still one of our best seasons with AG absolutely rocking.

When will the Sags realise that the Al-Qadi family bought a football club haemorrhaging money purely to offset their taxes?

They have hardly been breaking the bank with their spending have they?

I did warn my Sag friends who immediately started with the 6th richest club in England bollocks and throwing Wally on their shoulders celebrating down Gloucester Road to wait for the cheque book to come out before hailing the messiah?

But as usual the Sags prematurely ejaculated as they do with everything.

    Tick rock....No ground....No big spending.....No future.....Tinpot club.

It's sad, they make digs out of us for this thread, but near the beginning are several pages where we did research into Wael when he took over.  Rovers fans and the media were calling him a billionaire, spending his money on stadium and players, saying they were one of the richest clubs in the country. On our site we had within a couple of days put their wealth at around £70 million (and that is total assets not cash / funds available) and said little would change and at worse it could be a land grab for the mem. Whilst we did this Gas forums were giving each other a collective blow job and saying how jealous we were - maybe if they were half as inquisitive as us and not afraid of speaking out against the Gas dreamland fallacy they all live in, things would not be such a shock to them. Sadly their forum is just a la la land echo chamber, dissention against the narrative = bans. Maybe their mods and posters could learn from all this.... :rofl2br:

Oh if only there was a local billionaire that could go in and buy the club and rescue them, only to send the best of the staff and team to BS3 and then demolish the site (apart from the gates) and build a badminton court/basketball arena...

    Oh if only...

I would rather he built a multi use indoor athletics arena at UWE this area has nothing like it for miles. Local Gymnast have to goto Plymouth to train. We could not host a athletics meet, or indoor tennis open / competition the area just sucks for facilities.

Yes, I know but as I said they will still think it's a goer. As you said they had it on a plate but still failed. Looks totally amateur and tinpot, I would be so embarrassed if I were a Gashead.

Can someone please explain what this charge is against the Mem that is in place, I missed the news about this and don't understand. I'm going to be with a load of Gasheads on Sat Eve and all day Sunday and I want to get my facts rights to give the pot a stir, so I'll be looking at this thread for input. :bounce:

When Higgs was bought out and all the debts were paid of it was done so as a loan that was put on the books of a offshore company called Dwayne sports that owns Rovers and the Mem. To ensure that they would get all this money back no matter what happens (administration, etc) they put a charge against the Memorial stadium, So in effect the club bought itself and Wael used none of their own money, just guaranteed loans against the mem.

    Hi guys!

Firstly, id ignore that above twitter account, it's the single biggest piece of nonsense since us getting a stadium.

Secondly, I've got to be honest I'm quite pleased we aren't moving to UWE. It's definitely another thing for you to take the piss out of, granted, and the non match day revenue is of course needed if we ever really want to push on. That being said, I'm not sure I like the idea of a half full atmosphere void bowl with absolutely nothing good around it for before and after the game. I've been of the idea for a long time it wouldn't happen so nothing has changed in that respect for me. I can't really imagine anything substantial happening for a while.

As for the rest of stuff with the Al Qadis pulling out, who knows? Even from day one i didn't believe in the billionaire hype, there are those that don't believe everything they read, that being said I do think he's improved some stuff off the pitch. If he leaves, we'll he was skint anyway. Honestly, nothing will ever really surprise my with this club.

To be honest you were operating like a low end conference club and really needed someone to pull you up to at least L2 standards. I suspect that a lot of that was down to Higgs running out of money and lines of funding drying up. Infrastructure does not get repaired, staff get let go until you have the bare basics. Now you are back at where you should be, the question is, is the money (or will)  there to push beyond. I guess this is where we will start to see the true intentions of Wael now.

The reason I like this site is that we never let ourselves get so blinded or forced into a cult like collective like your forums all but force your posters to over time.

They will need them regardless of costs as they have released / not renewing contracts of so many players.
