Why buy the land at Almondsbury though? That's what I don't get. If he's bought that with money allegedly secured against their only asset, for land that can't be used for housing, what's the point in owning it if he's gonna do a runner? I appreciate it's his big brother who supposedly controls the purse strings but I don't see the value in owning the colony if he's a con man?

I get the impression that big bruv bought the gas as a 'toy' to keep little bruv out of the way and give him something to do but he ain't being allowed any pocket money.

Here's another question, I understand they're looking for 'outside investment' for any redevelopment, what possible benefit is there for any investor putting money into a redeveloped stadium? Why would anyone do it? That's in general and, rarely, not a snipe at the methane snorters.

Land is not a bad investment if you can get it cheap. Bristol will have to expand at some point it's creaking at the artificial green belt joints.

I tend to agree with you though, they bought a club (I am sure we all at some point thought it would be nice to be owners) and hoped to make a little money. The investment side collapsed, so now they are unsure what to do. Suddenly they cannot show friends around THEIR football clubs spanking new stadium with corporate boxes and restaurants,  hosting events,  inviting them to matches to hang out with them. So now, what to do ?

indeed but thats why its undisclosed, god knows,

anyway has anyone seen our old friend henbury claiming that the colony isn't going ahead because they are taking over clifton rugby ground?

mind you it would be the first time those asshats squatted at a rugby ground would it,

Rumour has it its Clifton.......  ;)

Clifton is still used by Bristol Rugby academy and Sarecens ( next door ) is earmarked for housing

Bristol Rugby academy moving to sh**ty academy site after its next expansion ?

only a couple of days ago he was sure the colony was going ahead and the facilities would be amazing. He has about as much knowledge of whats happening at Rovers as I do the inner workings of M15

  3. St Marys in Almondsury  - large plot land around it, easy motorway access.

Old Redcliffians - but it's Brislington area which seems out of Rovers core areas.

Downend on Southmead Road - pretty big site

Bishopston / Ashley Down - but tight squeeze

On our Doorstep Imperial ground which is Bristol Imperial I think

Cleve / Magnotsfield United - three way ground share ? You could fit a stadium and training facilities there.

Whitehall - large area but also a public park I think ?

I guess it's whats in it for those clubs. I cannot think of any other clubs with grounds large enough to build more on to be honest.

  4. So they are looking at a rugby ground to turn into training facilities ? Seems odd, they have land - surely it's building the damned thing that's going to costs them. Buying a few Rugby ground /  training pitches etc seems mad, unless they intend selling the mem and investing everything into some existing rugby ground ? There are not many around here that would be adequate.

  5. We won 6-0 with Bodin injured after 20 minutes, and having him on the pitch yesterday would have made no difference. We are the EFL's top goalscorers, so no, we don't rely on one player at all. Our defence is just very poor, that's why we are where we are.

They are deluded - they are not even the top goal scorers in League 1 let alone the whole EFL

  6. Hope you don't mind a Shrewsbury supporters view of last nights match. Shrewsbury supporters to be honest are to the most part shocked and stunned at our start. Our squad is made up of former Grimsby players, non league and promising youngsters on loan. I stress the word squad. Paul Hurst is not playing the same 11 week in week out. Last night our leading scorer was rested. In our match last Saturday at Plymouth our best player this season Rodman was rested. Rovers were the worst side we have played this season which was a surprise after your last away performance. You clearly rely a lot on your leading scorer and with him out have no bite up front. Your defence was non existent. The second half was played with Saturdays game in mind but there is no doubt other players will be rested. A strong squad in this league is vital. Its the first season we have had that. We will loose players in the January transfer market and possibly the Manager before too long but our objective is to reach 50 points. After that maybe a play off spot. I wish you good luck for the rest of the season. You don't win an away game 6-0 with crap players but new defenders and goalkeeper look to be a priority.

If you recall, approx 2 weeks ago, they held a free pie tasting evening to decide on the recipe for their new pies. If, as a result, they sell 5000 more pies at each match at a profit of £1 per pie, that provides an extra £5k per match income. Over a 23 match season that generates £115k. Therefore, over approx 173 years the stadium could be rebuilt in easy stages.

£19 million ?  obviously quick coffee break math..

  8. Their merc sales do not cover the staff and running costs of the shop ? Could they not just, well not bother - it also seems a lot of money on wages for a supporters club, you would think it would be ran for the love of the club not a pay cheque ? but who knows, maybe ours also has salaried members.

They seem to be sat on a lot of cash as well - surely it should be used for something, hate seeing clubs/ charities just hoard money for the sake of it.

  9. I am wondering why anyone would buy Rovers or invest.

We still have no idea if the previous owners/directors have been paid, or how much debt that Dwayne Sports will want paid off in any purchase. But lets just say that a new owner gets the training site land, stadium, team and name for even a nominal £1 purchase price. What has he got. If they have done even the slightest bit of research they see another team on their doorstep with a wealthy owner, a higher league / position team, modern stadium and facilities that has been this way pretty much in living memory. This would immediately make me think of looking elsewhere. But you go ahead, you have no training site as your current contract has ran out, so you quickly need to put some money into your new land - even if just some cabins, equipment  land resurfacing and markings it's going to costs circa £100,000 to get something basic set up. You then decide whether to build a stadium, at this point your doing it because you want to own a football club and not for a return on investment as there simply is no profit in this unless you sale the mem and run away with the cash.

Where is the opportunity here ? I really think they would be very low down on potential purchases if your looking to run a club because you love the game and idea. I would open a map a go for just about anywhere else with a decentish catchment area, and they would probably be better off than investing in Rovers.

Anyway, if it was me - I'd buy basic 10k seated stadium, build one stand at a time with the potential of adding other tiers one stand at a time when/if money/success/crowds demand. Yes we all like grand shiny  projects, but sometimes a kia can get you around until the Ferrari becomes affordable.

Anybody else think COD has replaced Freeman as the player who runs a lot, works hard, but has questionable end product?

He needs to release his passes earlier - not sure the point of dribbling from one touchline to the other wing either, in the time it takes him the opposition defence have regained their shape and we have gained nothing a quick pass could not accomplish.
