  1. Or more likely it was 8am to mark the birthday of one of the Ashton Gate Eight?
  2. More than a hint I’d say! Definitely look set to Churn Up the fields of Worthy Farm!
  3. I don’t think these things need to be mutually exclusive. Surely as part of educating one’s own child as to what is right and what is wrong, calling out discriminatory or abusive chanting is a positive example to set them?
  4. Quite. although I contest that it’s not hypocritical to hold your former self to account and expect better of society today.
  5. I’m sure most don’t although some replies here suggest otherwise. But that’s not the point. Casual sexism (whether there’s intent or not) reinforces negative attitudes towards women. That’s why I don’t like it.
  6. If that’s how you’ve interpreted my post then fair enough. But I’m not trying to stop people having fun, regardless of age. I’m just saying that in hindsight I regret participating in unsavoury chants, albeit the 90s were a very different time and I didn’t know any better. I think it’s entirely possible to eliminate overtly discriminatory chants without stemming the flow of creativity for good humoured ones. If you’re happy to continue endorsing this brand of support and feel that’s the right example to set to younger people in society then so be it. But I won’t be.
  7. I agree with that wholeheartedly and it’s exactly what I do. He’s not inclined to join in and certainly won’t repeat it outside of football either. But that doesn’t mean we have to accept it and let it go unchallenged.
  8. It’s not the 90s though is it and generally people’s attitudes have changed, making chants like this far less acceptable. Perhaps I would have ignored someone asking me to stop…what I would have liked in retrospect is to never have heard those chants at all.
  9. It’s not hypocrisy to acknowledge one’s own errors and to be willing to be part of changing a toxic culture. I only wish I’d have had positive influences from more senior fans when I started attending. I won’t sing it and I’d encourage others not to. Let’s focus on the positive and more palatable songs that everyone can get behind.
  10. No. I don’t accept that. I don’t have to deal with it. Are you saying all forms of discrimination are acceptable within the context of a football match or just casual sexism and misogyny? What an appalling statement.
  11. …and where do you think they learnt it from? This is exactly the point. If we keep singing it, it’ll continue to exist and be passed down to younger supporters.
  12. …(insert current Bristol Rovers manager name here) being a whore? This one gets wheeled out every week from the corner of the south stand and it’s an absolute embarrassment that has no place in football stadiums…or anywhere else in fact. It’s abhorrent. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy some of the more good humoured chants levelled at the opposition, but this goes too far for me. Have I sung inappropriate songs at football before? Yes. When I first started attending games as a teenager back in the early 90s I was influenced by what I heard around me and joined in. Do I regret that? Yes. But I was a product of what I was surrounded by…I didn’t know any better. I now take my own son to watch City and whilst I accept there will be plenty of colourful language for him to hear, I make a point of talking loudly to him when chants like this are happening, in attempt to drown it out. I don’t want him to think it’s in any way acceptable to repeat that chant or think it’s ok to level that accusation, whether in jest or otherwise, at a woman. He is taught to respect women and he calls out misogynistic behaviour when he witnesses it. As a club with a successful women’s team and a large number of female supporters, isn’t it about time we stopped this chant?
  13. Not sure if you can just walk in. Bookings can be made via the ticket website under hospitality (although not available to book on the day). £10 per person with tables of up to 10 people. The menu sounds limited…just refers to ‘loaded fries menu’. You might have more luck calling or emailing: ‘To find out more or to check availability please call our events team on 0117 963 0680 or email events@ashtongate.co.uk.’
  14. You get what you pay for I guess. That badge isn’t great is it?!
  15. Wasn’t sure what the VIP option was either. Anyone able to clarify?
  16. I’m fairly confident the club will continue to provide a solution for transferring your seat to a friend if you, as a season ticket holder, cannot attend a game. I’d expect this to require said friend to have a ticketing account with the club and for you as the season ticket holder to contact support services so they can allocate your seat to that friend, issuing them with a print from home/digital ticket for the game.
  17. A quick scan of the rules also states the official club emblem must appear only once on the front of the shirt. Have they massively ballsed up here? Or am I misunderstanding the rules?
  18. I can’t find anything more than this.
  19. So the FA website says this: ‘Under the new rules, if a club wishes to make a material change to its club crest, or change its recognised home shirt colours, it must undertake a thorough and extensive consultation process with supporters. A club must also be able to evidence that a majority of its supporters are in favour of any proposed changes (such as via an independently-run poll of season ticket holders, the club’s Community Benefit Society, and supporters that have attended a certain number of home matches).’ Have we got round this on a technicality by having the badge on the back?
  20. Switch the badges round and have the Robin on the back and I’d be a lot happier with this.
  21. How many times were Pring and Foden subbed off?! ?
  22. Odd that this hasn’t been mentioned on our website? Or have I just missed it? I’m going to be attending Yeovil’s home game on Saturday so will keep an eye on how both of them do.
