  1. Not test match, but watching England U19's vs India U19's and Rob Key talking a lot of sense, apparently a lot of the surfaces the U19's play on are worn surfaces that have been used for other pro matches, in essence we hand the advantage to India straight away and Key makes the point which English 19 year olds have a game geared for spin bowling, practically none. The pitch is turning a long way after 25 overs and India are ripping through us. Why don't we allow the U19's a pitch that we'd prepare for the senior team if a subcontinent team were touring?

Given Englands frailty with the bat, Woakes is a non starter for me. Ali on spin, Broad, Anderson, TRJ and Stokes the other bowlers. That is more than enough in attack and we need more batsmen. I'd go with the team in the last test but put Stoneman in for Jennings

First class average of 36 and a test average of 30, chuck in he's one of England's best bowlers and he has to play.

Cook, Hameed, Westley, Root, Bairstow, Stokes, Ali, Woakes, Broad, Anderson - Then the 11th player is based on what the pitch looks like doing

Unfortunely Waller hasn't progressed and barely even makes the one day games. I can't imagine he's on more than 20k-30 per year. I rememeber when he hit 200 for the seconds - even his batting potential has gone backwards.

With leach and bees I guess he's the most likely to go. Just like Dockrell last season

I'd agree if the other spinners were as good in all formats but they're not as good in T20, didn't a different recent statement say being competitive on all fronts? Watch him go somewhere else and be successful in limited overs cricket.

  4. If Somerset have told Waller he can leave its a bloody shambles, one of the best spin bowlers in domestic T20. Watch as barely any players and none of note come in through the door the winter with Somerset just operating off a reduced wage bill to make more money.

  5. Feel bad for Denly, did well to field that whereas it would have been better to concede the boundary. Also disagree with the commentators, Billings was right to have a go given it looks like he'd have been short of his ground, its mid on/mid off's fault for not backing up his attempt.

But he's leaving for a club who are directly below us. I would say only one us is likely to survive at the very best. Therefore if you have a player who's vested interest in the other surviving then maybe its best he's gone.

I just hope Hildys improved form of late continues when we return back to the 4 day games.

Sounds like it was his choice to want to leave though as opposed to the club being happy with him going, you'd think if the club were wanting him gone he wouldn't have been named on the T20 team sheet. I honestly think he's had a bust up with Maynard.

Really odd one. Perhaps one of the few positives of a poor first half of the season now gone. Feel a bit pissed off we gave him a chance when nobody else would and he leaves presumably for more money.  Odd choice in Warks given they seem even more likely for L2 than ourselves.   Maybe that was part of the reasoning - we don't want anyone who's not committed to survival..

Think the leaving with immediate effect hints at more, if it were just for more money it wouldn't matter waiting to leave till the end of the season.

    Confirmed as out now

What amazed me yesterday was it came to light the selecters don't actually go out and about watching any of the county games to see what players are playing like and on what sort of pitches they are playing . Selection is done from reading scores ON PAPER !!

Ballance has broken a finger, likely out of the next Test.

    Probably a blessing in disguise.

Talk of Stoneman, Westley or Malan replacing him. I'd go Malan personally, may only have been T20 but showed he had the ability at an international level.

The 40th match of the season when you are 14th, miles off promotion and relegation, does it make it irrelevant?  I'd say not as I go to be entertained.  I know I'm in the minority but I'm not even that bothered about getting promoted!

In the scheme of things yes, given that if you finish a few places apart you're potentially starting to look at hundreds of thousands of pounds difference in winnings for league position, maybe getting towards millions.

  11. I played cricket from the age of 8 till last year so big fan of it myself, but I'd still stand by saying each test match, odi, t20 match matters less/has less riding on it than an individual football match. Obviously when you get to series deciders they do but until then? Not so sure.

Was going to post exactly this. Cricket is for 'gentlemen' though I suppose. Best XI vs best XI. I'd rather we played the best Aussie team and lost 5-0 than play an almost novelty XI and won.

End of the day for cricket there is no league that overly matters, yes there are rankings and bragging rights winning a series, but how much does winning/losing a series matter? It's generally 'oh well onto the next one', whereas Football a lot more rides on each game.

They did use the extra 30 mins to bowl some extra overs and were still 3 overs short.

Personally would like to see times dicked runs for slow over rate. If by 6 your 8 overs short then other team get 5 runs per over meaning 40 runs. Only decided at end of day by 3rd umpire, match ref, in case of mitigating circumstances.

Fair enough I just went off the scorecard

Pisspoor over rate. And I doubt England will be much better tomorrow either.

Short changing the public who've paid a lot of money.

Tbf they were only 3 overs short of what they should have been in the end, considering they were 5 behind at lunch.
