  1. Gregor, the new tinker/tombola man. We looked decent in our opening match,  created enough chances and were organised, so let’s rip that up after one championship match! My biggest criticism of LJ was that he kept tinkering with the formation, often during matches, so no wonder we looked disorganised at times. LJ’s best spell was in 2017 when he had less players available and stuck to the team that had Reid as 9 and Pato at 10. So if Pearson thinks our current formation is the best chance of competing in the Championship, that’s good enough for me. Plenty of time for Wells to get game time even in the current formation.

I mean if we had anyone else of championship quality would Vyner be in this side?

If Baker or Mawson we’re fit, I feel Kalas has been an unsung hero recently.

I was questioning the ‘so far out of his depth’ comment. If Baker and Mawson were  fit then yes they’d probably be higher up the pecking order (if on form) but that doesn’t mean that he is ‘so far out of his depth’ and indeed our points tally with him in the side would suggest that he isn’t

  3. I accept that he is still learning/developing, but to suggest that ‘he is so far out of his depth’ when we sit on 20 points after 11 games and after the clean sheet tonight  - come on!

I'm struggling to think of any single person that has done more for the city of Bristol over the past few years than Pat Lam.

His constant references to Bristolians and making them proud and inspiring the community through success in rugby is incredible. Who even refers to people from Bristol as Bristolians anymore? Not even Bristolians themselves.

A complete inspiration and I hope he continues to build the club going forward.

    Impressive guy:

The club have said that this has happened:  pay cuts for staff; deferrals for the players. I’m not criticising the players, but the reality is that the club has taken the decision to protect the interests of players ahead of staff. And that sticks in the throat a little (I’m not blaming the players by the way).

Actually, thinking about it, once you say to one group of staff please keep working with a 20% pay cut it kind of follows that the ones who are furloughed will have the same reduction. Otherwise the ones still working would be mightily cheesed off - they’d be working for less whereas the ones not having to work would still be on full pay.

In terms of the players, of course we don’t know what the terms of the 30% deferral are. It might only be recouped if certain financial conditions are met.

Absolutely. Perfectly possible to greatly appreciate what SL has done for the club, the city and the wider region while being pretty appalled at this. Using the furlough scheme feels pretty questionable, but the idea that those working in the club shop, or in admin or whatever take a 20 per cent cut while the players will see all their wages is horrendous.

I haven’t read anywhere that we are paying them only 80 percent. A lot of companies will be still be paying furloughed staff full pay and claiming 80 percent back from the Govt. Looks like the players and staff who aren’t furloughed are taking pay cuts/deferrals. Overall this gets us through the period of hardly any income without having to make staff redundant.

I did read something online though about regulations that state that if 75% of games played then that can be treated as sufficent to take standings where teams are now. Dunno if that's an FA rule, Premier League, Football League...

75% of 46 is 34.5 games. 75% of 38 is 28.5...All sides in the PL have played 29 games except for the 2 in hand- Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Man City v Arsenal- all clubs in the Championship have exceeded the 75% threshold.

Or a rule by a guy in Preston ?

  8. This (below) was the bit from the Times that the Sky article above mentioned. Yes banning events is also mentioned but I don’t think it necessarily means all events over 500 people will be banned for two years. However, given the experts were saying the peak of the virus here is expected to be end May to mid June, if the season is to be completed, I can only see that taking place Aug-Oct when the previous season would usually have started. Have a break/transfer window after that. You then finish next season later - or shorten like others have said by only playing each team once or splitting the Divisions into North and South regions with play offs afterwards.

”Police will be able to detain infected people and schools could be forced to stay open under a package of powers being announced next week to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
Emergency laws to help to limit the spread of the virus will be introduced after the number of people infected in Britain rose by 200 in 24 hours to 798. The measures, seen by
The Times, will also let councils lower standards in care homes to deal with staff shortages. The legislation, which ministers intend to push through parliament in two weeks, will equip the government to deal with the disease. Ministers believe that the virus will infect the majority of the population, and the laws will stay in place for two years.“

Very surprised the response hasn't become more robust.  I've been highlighting the need for balance between economic and health concerns, but this now feels like it's swinging too far one way.

Will also be interesting to see if this has an impact on attendances this weekend.

It sounded more the balance with behavioural science than economics. They said peak is still 10-14 weeks away. Lock down is tough and they will want it to be working effectively right across and after the peak. Not lock down too early because the behavioural science says people won’t sustain it for that long.

Guys, I’ve clicked on the link so you don’t have to give the Daily Mail clicks.

The woman is 29 and has had specialised hospital treatment.

Therefore, in the COVID Venn diagram, she fits in the rare middle group - lowest risk, highest treatment. Most people of her age won’t get hospital treatment due to priority

Most of us who are fit and healthy normally will be fine, the point is the risk of carrying and passing onto someone who is in the high risk group. And as more people get it, it’s less likely they can get the medical attention they need

Spot on. Agree that the concern is for the highest risk groups and also ensuring that the NHS can cope by delaying the peak to as far away from Winter as possible (because NHS is under most pressure in Winter). If NHS can cope better that also helps patients who need treatment for something that has nothing to do with coronavirus. So yes most people will have mild symptoms but that’s not the point. If everyone was at high risk then clearly we would be in lockdown far earlier and longer.

  11. Just had an (unfortunate) thought: what if we make it to the play offs and then we win the playoffs and make it to the Premier League all behind closed doors? Haven’t fully decided what I think about that yet, although I think I’d prefer they postponed the play off final in that situation. It would be very strange finally making it to the PL with no fans there. Hopefully it won’t come to pass (the behind closed doors part, although the play offs part is also become more unlikely looking at other results this afternoon).
