  1. I’ve always thought we’d be ok this season given the form of others and Derby’s points deduction. Fingers crossed!

At the other end of the table, Blackburn are on fire. Six consecutive wins since their draw with us. Boro doing well too.

So when do other clubs show their hand and reveal just how covid impacted they are?

It will be interesting to compare our performance against them.

Saw this on Millwall. Looks to me that they are punching above their weight given their position in the Championship.

Bournemouth are 3 places above us, and Stoke and Bolton despite both being new builds in the middle of nowhere are in the top 50 if you want to get the measure of this ranking. Villa Park is below only Anfield, Fulham and Old Trafford in England, proving the people who came up with this nonsense have never been to a real match in their lives.

Steve Neville no 11? To the left of him, er, Alan Walsh (although I'm not sure you'd ever see him there, so maybe not ...)

I think it is Walsh. I also have a vague recollection that he played centrally occasionally for us.

I know nothing about this sort of thing but isn’t this, between Christmas and new year, an odd time to announce this?

Or is it done just before the transfer window on purpose?

I’ve noticed that Pearson has said in a number of interviews that, to manage expectations, City need to be open and transparent as to ‘where we are’. So releasing this now would be aligned to that sentiment.

    This is a brilliant post.

The one thing I'd add is that - whilst I agree people weren't 'work dodgers' under Holden, I do think there are long-standing problems in the character of the squad. I don't think they are necessarily on any individual player but I do think that we've lacked leaders and strong characters at the club for a while. The likes of Weimann, Bentley and Kalas come across as very good professionals, and I'm not knocking their attitude or work ethic, but I don't really see anyone in the club who picks the team up when things are going against us and drags performances over the line.

Maybe James can do that and we'll see more of it from here out, and I wonder if Williams has got it in him when he's fit, but I think we've got a tendency to lose heart when things are going against us and I think that partly comes down to a lack of senior leaders. Players don't need to be workshy for the attitude in the team to not quite be right.

Agree. For me it is about mental resilience. For a full 46 game relentless Championship season.

Whatever your thoughts on LJ the bloke gave us this magical night against Man Utd and their megastars and for that I will always be grateful to him.

Agree. LJ has another chance to do it all again tonight of course - Q Final v Arsenal.
