This side is suited better to being a counter attacking team. We do better against sides who prefer to have the lions share of possession. Hopefully Manning can see this and slowly evolve us in time to a more progressive, possession based side.

Agreed. At this time, it should be a case of making 'little steps' as the players have been used to a playing system for the best part of 3 years, albeit the system did change this time last year in terms of a back 4. Let's be honest, the players are a mid table side for now, so forget how many points we are off the play offs, until new signings are made....

As I said, a carbon copy of that performance which Ian didn't like. Suddenly Saturday was clearly better and 'progressive'.

    The hypocrisy is nauseating.

It was a gritty performance against Sunderland and Coventry. Yes, Coventry could have scored numerous times in the 1st half, but that also applies to Sunderland, who had more shots than Coventry.

Defensively we performed well. It's interesting that when we have less possession, our results are sometimes better....😂

Not only that, Ian posting on twitter about Saturday's game 'What's not to like?'

Well it was a carbon copy of the 1-0 win vs Coventry under NP in October and he absolutely slated that very result/performance.

I feel disappointed a bit since the NP sacking as this was my go to City podcast, but they are desperate for the 'I Told you NP was no good' line.

    Good point...

If you look to use the train for away trips regularly with your son, you should look at getting a friends and family railcard.

I paid around £50 for me and my son’s return for West Ham. The savings made that day cover the price of the railcard.

Tbf, I don't do a massive amount of away trips nowadays due to my son's morning footy commitments but that's a good idea for others. I think I could have got the trip for £80 but I wanted an open return which bumped up the cost a bit....

@Tomo at a recent Statsbomb conference they demo’d how AI / Machine Learning was being used in its infancy in Basketball, in particular spotting repeating patterns of play, e.g. a pick n roll between certain players to leave another player free.  So rather than a video analyst pouring over footage for hours on end, the computer was doing it for them.  They said it still took an incredibly powerful computer to run it.

Exactly that mate. It's crazy. Statsbomb, Second Spectrum, Stats Perform and many others are fighting for the AI contracts with television companies worldwide and then that filters down to club level of course. I understand that Man City Academy are already using Second Spectrum and have AI cameras at all games....

I am also a sucker for data and stats, but ultimately the most important stat is the scoreline after 90+ minutes.

Nor mine, he suggesting banking or insurance.  Having said that, there weren’t any jobs doing it in the mid / late 80s. 😁😁😁

AI is going to be massive going forward. Check out Second Spectrum technology. Mental.

My careers master at school never mentioned football data analysis as a career unfortunately.

Just for me could you describe a normal working day and how you gather the information, I’m genuinely interested, maybe others are as well.

It's not my main profession fella but its a nice side earner. Thankfully, as I am Bristol based, I am not asked to cover premiership games as VAR is a bloody nightmare for data analysts, especially as live markets are frantic in receiving the correct information🤣

The data is collected via an interface using a smartphone or laptop...it's an intense job tbf. Your eyes need to be everywhere but most importantly you need to keep your eyes on the referee. They are unpredictable 🤣🤣🤣

  8. Crikey. Nit picking Imo.

I don't think yesterday's press conference was too shoddy. Liam spoke well considering the bad run of results we are experiencing.

As some of you may know, I am a Football Data Analyst, collecting every ball moving moment during the game, which is used 'live' by 1000's of bookmakers worldwide. It mirrors the data that OPTA collect and I often chat with other analysts about the overkill of data used in football nowadays.

As Fevs said you can 'use data and spin it anyway you see fit'. Even after 370 Games since doing the job, I still have no idea of how the bookmakers use the data 'during the game and for future betting odds'. The world has gone so OTT on data collection.

Of course, data has it's role in Football, to use and develop a squad of players, but ultimately football is also a simple game and after 90+ minutes, the most important bit of data, is the scoreline!

I completely forgot this morning and the Mrs reminded me about 10 minutes ago. In a panic, I logged on. Luckily I managed to get 2 adult, 2 children. Only about 430 left!

Bloody relieved the Mrs asked the question 'have you got your tickets yet for West Ham'.....we had already booked the train, so had I left it another hour, I would have been shopping in Oxford Street in the January Sales🤣🤣🤣

  11. Interesting comments especially one from a Leicester fan....the worry is that it will be very difficult for Liam to pull the plug on his 'style of play' even if he now thinks the players are not good enough to implement it. Worrying. He would look weak and lose any early respect he has attained from the players. If we lose against Sunderland and at the moment, that is looking likely, the crowd will turn and the atmosphere will become toxic. I hope the fans don't turn on Manning though. It's not his fault. It's Jon and Tinnion? who have created this very awkward situation.

  12. Sorry, I can't see the logic....you sack an experienced 'old bloke' who has experience of getting promotion to the premier league, who was working with no budget and is expected to use academy players and shop in the bottom half of the championship and league 1. Team were incredibly united and were showing signs of improvement. 'Young bloke' comes in (I like him btw) and trys to adopt a completely different style of playing. Looks reasonably OK on the eye having more possession but we lack any increased chance of scoring.... it's currently 0.83PPG

I think Jon will spend around 5 million to cover his arse in January....his 'we may try and fast track our summer plan comment' should now be amended to 'we need to fast track our summer plan immediately' 😂

At one point 4 Leyton Orient players were playing hide and seek in the dark...and some of their other players were hiding behind the 1950's designed pillars....🤣

Their owners seem to be on another level🤣 They have decided to redevelop the mem and they rush this shameful stand to replace the tents....it's unbelievable how this club keeps giving....🤣
