  1. I hope the digs about getting in the top 6 aren't a noose around this guy's neck. How many people realistically think whoever was appointed could get this team into the top 6.

Yes, we could maybe get close but i don't think we have anywhere near enough creativity and quality up front to threaten the top 6.

I do wish Liam all the best though and think he could be a good appointment in the longer term but not this season.

…and that’s fine if those academy players coming through are ready / good enough to keep taking us forward.  When they stop being able to progress you what does he do then?

You could argue that no academy player has broken through this season.  We joke about a conveyor belt, but it’s not.  It’s still impressive the number we have got through, but it’s not linear.  Yeboah hasn’t broken through, he’s yet to start, he’s yet to oust a “first-teamer”.  He’s not done a Bell or Conway yet.  That’s not me trying to put a downer on it, just a bit of realism that we’ve had a purple batch.  I guess Ayman’s return would be a real bonus…fingers crossed.

I think you and @Silvio Dante got there first.

Hugely annoyed they’ve sacked Nige (and his staff - let’s not forget that), but the only connect between Nige and Manning is that he’s his successor.  I don’t see that as a reason to “diss” Manning….not least before he’s been announced and showed what he can do.

I said when Nige was sacked I wouldn’t go down the route of researching prospective rumoured managers because I could probably spin it either way, everyone comes with pros and cons, depends how heavily you want to go on either side.  So no anger re Manning at all, good luck to him.  I hope I see him in as positive a way as I did Nige, even if it’s for different reasons.

And for a piece of pure made-up stuff, imagine Nige was the one who identified Manning as a potential successor.  That would change things wouldn’t it?

    ⬇️⬇️⬇️

I think it’s pretty clear that he played back 3 at MKD and predominately back 4 at Oxford.

My takeaway is that he has a flexible approach, just like Nige did….tries to find the best approach for the players he has.

On an aside, I’m not sure if it’s a sign that Manning is definitely coming or who he’s bringing with him, but Craig Short’s (First Team Coach at Oxford) missus started following me on twitter last night. 😉

Think I'll be checking my missus phone tonight.

We want Nigel back, we want Nigel back.

    or

We want Pearson back, we want Pearson back.

Sack the board, sack the board, sack the board.

Most of us are so livid about this, I hope it turns ugly.  SL and JL are both well aware of how we feel, but by the sounds of it, couldn't care less.

I wouldn't go as far as to say they don't care, but that they think they are right when everyone else thinks they are wrong

Plus one other, Rawcliffe I expect, or maybe Marshall.

It would be nice to hear from Rawcliffe given he is COO.

    So another non-football person.

Even with Tinnion i don't get that warm fluffy feeling that he's experienced enough to be recommending the next head coach being not a particularly successful or experienced head coach himself.

Here's hoping that for all this whether through wisdom or through luck we get the right person to take us upwards

Just finished watching too. As a format it did work ok. JL seemed relaxed and it was interesting to hear him give longer form answers.

Still plenty in there that stinks of BS, and going forward, the structure of the club with no CEO and Tinnion effectively heading up the entire football operation is worrying.

But if they are at least able to communicate more like this, then that would be a start.

Totally agree with this. As JL interviews go i don't think it was that bad. He was never going to spill any beans on who we are looking to appoint next or when a new head coach will be in place.

What does concern me though is what he said about the interview process and that it being basically him and Tinnion doing the interviewing. That worries me. A lot.

  6. Been giving this some thought and the club seem to have tried all kinds of different coaching setups so i think the only one left to try is the junior football coaching model where one of the players parents steps up into the role.

    Thoughts? 🤔

  7. Changing a manager when doing well is not necessarily a bad move if a better more successful and experienced of the level above happens to become available. Rooney isn't that though, managerial wise. Be interesting to see how he gets on without Rosenior as his number 2.

As an aside i can imagine there are City fans looking on jealously at this move wishing we had an owner who did this kind of thing regardless of how daft it sounds

Rules generally are though - it's kind of the point!

In your scenario people will argue about whether the majority of the player was in front or not, the same as they argue if it's based on clear daylight, or based on the foot etc. The point is whichever way you want to define offside, you either except there will be mistakes or you use VAR to reduce the mistakes from happening.

Before VAR though offsides were never this exact and there wasn't all the uproar on whether someone's big toe was ahead of the defender. The premise used to be if the player looked level then they were onside. Let the attacking team have the advantage so we get more chances on goal.

All the precise rules and VAR delays are killing the entertainment and spectacle

How do you define "clearly see" though? Wherever you draw the line it will still need VAR to determine whether it's offside for the close calls. I think the reason was human error. Need to look at control measures to stop it happening again.

Well, you could just use s common sense rule of the majority of the attacking player is ahead of the last defender. Would be a lot harder to question decisions than the current rule

...but if course "common sense" is banned in football. Everything has to be black or white.

  10. The main reason for this VAR decision being wrong is the actual current offside rule. FIFA or whoever it is who sets the rules seems to have forgotten what the purpose of the offside rule is, which is to stop goal hanging.

If the rule was changed so that if you can clearly see that the attacking player is ahead of the last defender then it's offside. Can't be possible to get it wrong then. This current rule of the attacking player's big toe nail is offside is just bonkers.
