NP’s interview was, as usual, realistic.  He looked very fed up, as well he might.

I like the way he faces us to the reality.

The next task is for him to raise the players’ game.  I wish him well and certainly don’t envy him.  We can’t expect him to make silk purses out of sows’ ears overnight.  I just hope he doesn’t get so fed up that he walks.

Out of likes but good, sensible post and calls it as I see it too. ?

I've always felt like Simpson/Downing leaving was a matter of if not when after this. They were brought in, probably sold the dream of being 'joint assistants' under an 'up and coming exciting young manager' at a big potential project. Leave their England roles for it.

Fast forward 6 months, everything is a shambles and Simpson is left as the 'lead' person to temporarily try and get us out. This interview is just a huge "what the **** have I done?" cry out. Do wonder if Pearson coming in, bringing in his own men (above them) has maybe made the two of them pretty deflated and lose a bit of motivation as it's in no way what they were signing up for...?

    Completely agree.

I am sure many of us have seen similar situations in our professional lives.

Correlation does not equal causation. It has absolutely nothing to do with COVID, it's obviously down to how much our abysmal home form now gives even the quietest away fans a lease of life, particularly when given their obligatory 90th minute booster. I saw every incident you mentioned* and it was largely that, and the contrast is more obvious now that our fans trudge away in Lowry painting levels of depression at this repeated shit show.

Pre-COVID as boring as home performances could be they weren't as consistently awful and we weren't consistently miserable and disaffected leaving games, and the two pre-COVID home fixtures that were fun for away fans - getting hammered 4-0 by Brentford on New Years Day and getting hammered 4-0 by WBA - no one begrudges the away side, a lot of City had gone home before full time, and Brentford at least aren't going to act up.

*Gobby Fulham fans were an anomaly as it was just some kids in replica shirts who obviously had their first ever beers and were heading back to the pick up point with mum and dad looking forward to being driven home.

I think you make a good point @Olé about our home form but I do think there is something about us being in this post COVID world and it impacting football violence.

Since the start of the season it's been everywhere on a scale I don't think we've see for nigh on 20 years. We've had incidents as @Pezo mentioned above, which like you I saw as well. To have so many incidents against Swansea, Preston, Fulham, Forest and even Blackpool is unusual. You could argue Swansea and even Forest would always be flash points with or without COVID but Blackpool?

When you then look nationally there is a clear increase I think:

Man Utd vs Leeds, Newcastle vs. Leeds, West Ham vs. Rapid Vienna, Leicester vs. Napoli, Hull City vs. Sheffield United, Macclesfield Town vs. Congleton, Man City vs. Arsenal, Huddersfield Town vs. Hull City, Wigan vs. Gillingham, Burnley vs. Arsenal......just the ones I know of this season so far already where there has been disorder.

Similar to our game against Swansea you could argue that Man Utd vs. Leeds or the European ties would always be trouble; but Arsenal games?

Much like we've all been 'chomping at the bit' to get back to live football after well over a year without it due to COVID, I do wonder whether this apparent resurgence of football violence has the same rationale.

Just listened to talk sport and a Newcastle fan said what about getting Pearson in to steady the ship.

I had heard the same elsewhere.

For all the moaning on other threads last thing we need is NP to be poached on a short term basis by them.

Sorry - you've got the wrong end of the stick. I did indeed want Pearson and think Pearson is doing an ok job in the circumstances. No money and a substandard squad. Amazed we are doing as well as we are. He's rescuing the shambles that LJ & Ashton left us.

Pearson, GJ and Cotts are the only decent managerial appointments Lansdown has made...and Cotts was that other chap's suggestion. For all his money Lansdown has made a right bags of much of the past 20 years!

Correct. He’s dealing with legacy of Johnson and Holden. He needs at the very least another year to sort this ******* shit out.

I think you’ve missed a key word out there…. picked by every failed manager…oh, and don’t forget our failure of a CEO, who bizarrely awarded him a lucrative, extended contract…. even when those with the most basic of football knowledge knew it was rank stupidity.

This era of building a team of ‘good humans’ at City must be ending soon, and it can’t come fast enough.

Again out of likes but completely agree.

I had hoped he was going out the door in the summer with the other family feel/good humans but alas not.

I think the main frustration with COD comes from what he clearly can do. Purely from his build/attributes he should be someone really exciting who excels at this level. We see bits in the training videos of him beating players, scoring/assisting, he looks strong, quick, direct…. This maybe answers why he is constantly selected.
But when he actually plays, he is a timid, weak, “safe” player.

As much as he has been picked by all managers, he has never really nailed down a position, and he usually has 2-3 good games maximum per season (that’s a fact, and his stats back that up)

He doesn’t create lots of goals, he doesn’t score lots of goals, he’s not a great outlet at carrying the ball forward, he doesn’t track back and help the team (remember Norwich away when LJ publicly stated this after his wonder goal in that game)

I think he’s had more than enough chances, he’s had more than enough time to develop and become consistent, but he hasn’t, and sadly it doesn’t look like he ever will here.

Because he doesn’t have assist/goal threat, you sadly can’t accommodate him in a team, Eliasson for example is far easier to justify based on him delivering as many assists in 1 season, as COD has in 6 years.

Out of likes here but you have absolutely nailed it here for me.
