Rather we kept our best keeper tbh.
I did say ‘if max is as good’ as a caveat
I don’t think it should be forgotten that we are in a poor position financially. We may need to sell a first team player to improve other areas of the pitch
-
Well done Max. Would like to see him regain his place and continue to improve and learn ahead of being our number one next season, if he does so. We know what Bentley can do and if Max is as good after another run of games then we can sell Bentley and invest in other areas.

One has to assume they’ve seen the pitch and think one spinner is enough. Guess time will tell. Woakes must be playing because he’s quite reliable with the bat. Would have liked to see more of Fisher, we know Overton isn’t good enough already

True, until test cricket has vanished through lack of interest. Bit of an exaggeration I know but it’s further down the path.
Next test will be the same for sure. Need to pick two spinners and drop Woakes

George Dobell in theCricketer now hinting that drink sales may have been a reason for the flat decks.
Yeah I wouldn’t rule it out but there won’t ever be any proof of the motivation

Glad to hear Conway is amongst the goals. I thought he’d be playing a fair few games this season which hasn’t happened yet. Partly because of injury but also he has been slightly disappointing for the under 23s. Hopefully he can kick on now. We are safe so i would love to see him get 3-4 starts in a row and a few good games for the 23s could make that happen. Pearson seems to like him

And as well as he’s batted if that doesn’t tell you what the pitch was like……
The cynic in me thinks the WICB has wanted all the tests to go 5 days to make some cash from the large number of tourists. Hope Grenada proves me wrong.
It could easily be that the Windies don’t back their batsmen to score the runs needed on a more bowler friendly pitch. I don’t think if we see a Grenada pitch similar to the first two that it will prove they’ve done it for profit.

and inheriting a better squad of players.
Do Luton have a better squad of players than us? Blackpool? Preston? Coventry? Millwall?
All better than us. I don’t think the league table is a list from top to bottom of the best and worst squads. The manager has an enormous impact on how the team performs and how good the players individually perform in that team.
Hughton is a hugely respected manager who a lot fans wanted here. Who’s to say how good the Forest squad is. Pearson might well have excuses but is our squad better than it’s league position and performances? In my view, yes

Fancy Forest to beat Liverpool today , be good to see a championship club in the semi final.
Looks like Fowler’s enjoyed the pre match bar looking at his eyes !!
I very much fancy Liverpool to win this one!

I just think we know it’s pointless and just rest the bowlers for next test.
I’d be shocked if that’s the tactics after we batted like that. Assuming that Root wants to make sure it’s 100% a draw minimum so he can set very attacking fields and not worry about conceding boundaries

Come on root. Declare flare time!

It came across as a rather unnecessary response to a valid question.
The interviewer should have responded in the same terms - "well, you're the expert, not me or the supporters, so for the benefit of us thickos, what was the change"
Absolutely. It should have been turned back on him. I appreciate that Pearson doesn’t really want to be doing it but it is part of his job! Plus in about 6 months time he might be fighting for his job so it might help him if fans and journalists don’t think of him as an arrogant tosser.
-
Pearson is a dick sometimes isn’t he. Incredibly arrogant response
On another note, two very common things in football make me laugh. Fans moaning about keepers punching and fans moaning about zonal marking from corners. Nearly every keeper nowadays prefers to punch and I would say a majority of teams either exclusively or part, zonal mark from corners.
There’s obviously a reason for it that the professional coaches are coaching.

Did you say that when Holden was manager and Johnson before that because a lot of City fans did(many on this forum). The expectations are too high given
the players we attract and produce, the lower reaches of the Championship is the limit to what can be consistently achieved each season.
And yet Johnson got us to 8th and the semi finals of a cup. You must have rated him very highly as a manager to get performances from players not good enough

With the current squad avoiding a relegation battle is a successful season anything better is an exceptional season. And it looks like the former is achieved albeit with a bit of good fortune regarding points deductions the fans need to get realistic about where the club is at present.
I’m completely realistic. However, the players are better than the performances they have been putting in.

How many of the clubs in the top half of this division would swap what they currently have for any of the above? very few if any at present. The three young players are just potential at this stage and woefully inconsistent in their performances the supporters of this club massively overrate our players every season, when you actually see them in action against opposition its a reality check. This squad of players regardless of the manager will not get anywhere near the top six, Yes Pearson's been largely disappointing but each week he invariably picks a team that's up against better opposition and sometimes they get a result but the majority of the time they won't.
Players can look a lot better or worse depending on their managers ability to manage them. Look at Forest. Transformed by a new manager.
I’ve never said the players are play off quality. They aren’t. But they are better than Pearson has got them performing

It reads more like everything is Pearson’s fault as you understand it.
Not everything but we are consistently awful and cannot defend with no sign of that improving. Pearson organises the team and should be able to get them improving.

If we sold Bentley and told him he was our number one then I’m confident he wouldn’t leave
