  1. I'm all for selling the naming rights. Here's a potential opportunity. We could flog the name to the makers of the Ashton Driveway Gate. How does Ashton Gate Stadium sound? https://www.woodensupplies.co.uk/p/the-ashton/
  2. I can see why it was given but the ref has been conned there.
  3. I've no evidence that this is the case here so it's speculation on my part but I read an article a while back that clubs are signing experienced pros to help develop their under 23's and younger players. I think Brighton lead the way but several others are doing it now. Here's the article: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2021/oct/12/ageing-players-signed-to-guide-premier-league-wannabes-brighton-under-23s Maybe Simpson was originally signed to play because we needed cover at the back but now we have a settled system and players, Simpson has shifted focus to a more non playing development player role. As Davefevs said above, it would be interesting to hear from the younger lads if this is the case and if this is helping them.
  4. I found LJs statement bizarre for a number of reasons. Firstly, it seems am odd way to release a statement by doing it through the LMA. It reminds me of when the victims in a terrible crime have their legal team read a statement after a court case because they can't face the press. As for the words themselves, its all sunshine, rainbows and unicorns farting magic sparkles. Reading it you wouldn't believe there was anything wrong at the club or with his time there. Fabulous board, amazing staff, superb, young and hungry international class players, trophies, cup runs and success after success. You would never believe he'd been sacked after getting thumped by Bolton.
  5. I was only 8 years old at the time and didn't get bitten by the City big for another 10 years (yeah, I know, a late starter) so my thoughts are very much viewing back through time from a distance. I find it very odd on the Club web pages today they are using the term "Celebrate" in reference to the 8. To my mind, the word commemorate would be far more appropriate. It seemed a desperately sad time for all involved from those players, the players who remained and the supporters. Very few clubs get that close to the brink and somehow manage to pull it back. I know from the posts from those there at the time, there were a core of supporters who went to every game, put money in buckets, kept the faith and kept clicking through the turnstiles. There were the members of the new club board who risked a massive amount to put a rescue package in place and of course the 8 players who had to end their contracts. Those people are all worth commemorating. At the same time, we need to remember the lessons if we don't want to see something like this happen in the future. The bulk of fans will only come if we are in the higher divisions. Between 80 and 81 our attendances halved and by the end of 82 they were a third of what they were in the 79-80 season. On average, the club lost 12,000 fans a game. Where did they go? They were certainly still there as the attendance as the Villa game a few weeks before the Feb 3rd D-Day certainly proved. How did the board let this situation occur? What happened to the money that was coming in? There's been many stories over the years of Rolls Royces in the car park while the club hemorrhaged money. There were many people who played a part in almost costing the club it's very existence. As I said, I respect the 8 who had to deal with a massive amount of pressure, were thrust into the spotlight and subsequently forgotten for some time but this whole event is not one for celebration. It's time for commemoration, reflection, thankfulness that we are still here today and acceptance that we would never want or allow our club to get into similar circumstances again.
  6. Gas players proudly show off their League One ready assholes
  7. Loving reading all the positive comments about our performance today. We definitely seem to have stepped on over the last month or so and this gives us a really good platform to build on. Sounds like I'm missing a cracker so far.
  8. Just lacking a bit of quality with the crossing into the box so far but we've been really strong all over the pitch. Great stuff.
  9. How good was that run and ball in then from Scott. Great player
  10. In the last 10 years, the average length of employment for a Watford manager has been around 7 and a half months. Since June 2011 they've made sixteen managerial appointments including 1 caretaker and Sanchez Flores twice.
  11. Took City a good while to get into the game but it looked like we finished the half as the stronger side. An absolute peach of a finish from Martin. Hopefully we can build on the momentum in the second half.
  12. Why can't it just be called: "The absolute shit hole stadium full of thick deluded *****" It's what their current ground is called so they'll feel right at home if they get a new one.
  13. I don't bother reading anything from the Ipswich forums since their less than savory comments about us but I can't help wonder how their injury list shapes up across this season and next with Ashton's preferred medical wizard at the helm.
  14. One of my favourite Footy videos ever "Danny Baker's Freak Football" contains our floodlight failure from the Liverpool game with a comment on how fans can't resist going "Wahay" when the lights go out.
  15. Watched the first half on Sky and then had to go out so missed the second half. In the first half we really struggled to find space around the park. Millwall pressed us hard. I feel sorry for Towler as he struggled against a tough, experienced team. Perhaps this wasn't the game to throw him in for. He's going to need an arm around his shoulder. Make no mistake though, this was a massive 3 points. Not every match is the same but at our current points per game ratio (1.2) we are set to finish on 55 points. COYR
  16. Almost certainly getting the younger lads involved while he still is able to cover them from the bench. Let's be honest, we are looking to move some players out this month to free up wages and hopefully find room for a signing or two. If we can't find cover from within the squad in case we can't replace Bentley, HNM etc, it makes our transfer window dealing even more critical.
  17. From another angle I think you can see the culprit in the reflection...... Oh my god, It was Peter Gabriel !!!
