  1. OK, move may be over stating the fact but Preston were apparently in talks or made firm enquiries. Also, it did seem that the club were happy for Wells to move on during several windows over the last 12 months.
  2. I do grind my teeth at these "I told you so" posts. Rest assured, there will be no head hanging in shame in the MR household. There's no doubt we are seeing a different Wells this season. The way we are playing suits his style, having his experience alongside Conway is a real bonus and he himself has clearly got his mojo back. That said, he's in the last year of his contract and reportedly one of our highest earners. Also, lets not forget, until the move broke down, the club were more than happy to let him go in the summer. The big question is what happens when we get to January. Will we offer him a contract extension? Will his upsurge in performance tempt another club to make an offer or will we get what we can from him on the pitch and wave him off in the summer of 2023?
  3. Good game. Touches of class with the occasional "off head, on chicken suit" at the back which we really need to cut out against teams with more threat up front. But wow, what an absolute banger from Semenyo. Class. We look like a team, we're playing like a team and there's actually hope.
  4. Tidy first half from us with Sykes and JD looking a handful on either side. My only small gripe is we've wasted a few easy through balls that could have split open Huddersfield's defence. Their keeper has looked nervous and we need to keep him busy. Good game so far.
  5. Four Four Two is publiished in Bath and once sponsored Swindon. I'm pretty certain over the years they've demonstrated some of their staff hacks have no love for City. We consistently appear at the bottom end of their prediction tables almost every season. In short, **** their opinions.
  6. Yeah, sorry, Red Cards can be rescinded but not applied afterwards if the Ref mentions the action in his post match report.
  7. No unfortunately because the Ref saw it and dealt with it on the day. The FA never go against a ref's decision. If it had been violent conduct and it didn't appear in the Ref's post match report then a retrospective punishment could be applied.
  8. I agree, statistics like that show it's way more than just chance.
  9. It also stands out that the majority of the clubs in the Championship are at the bottom end of that list. It seems on average that Championship match Ref's are the most reluctant to award penalties in Europe. It's very bizarre.
  10. Great result. Coventry in the cup, Wigan and then Luton. 2 wins and a draw. Hopefully that will give the team a lot of confidence and we can kick on now.
  11. Just got in from work and bugger me sideways, 2-0 up. Lovely. Dangerous scoreline though. Better get another 2 or 3. ?
  12. On Radio 5 they were talking about Hull getting two penalty shouts in the first half that, had they been given, would have been really soft. It seems Hull have been playing for penalties all afternoon.
  13. The medical treatements for Cancer improve year on year. I wish Nick a full and fast recovery.
  14. All the pre-season stuff is done. The new players are in the squad. There is nothing else now other than to count down the hours until the first match of the season kicks off. We are now in the period of peak optimism. I love it and hate it at the same time. Bring it on and lets get 3 points on the board on day 1. COYR.
  15. Well that was fantastic. Needed a dab of squeeky bum oil to get over the first 20 minutes but after that England came alive, and that back heel. Class.
  16. Said exactly the same in our house. I can't quite understand why we've got a natural left footer playing wide right. She checks inside every time, holds up breaks and loses possession. A very disjointed first half from England.
  17. They've already been mentioned but I will second Gary Nelson's "Left foot forward" and "Left foot in the Grave". City get a few mentions in both books. I'd say "Left foot in the Grave" looking at his time on the managment team at Torquay is the better read of the two but both books are fantastic. I'd also highly recommend "Provided you don't kiss me - 20 Years with Brian Clough" by Duncan Hamilton.
  18. We could call the campaign: Cancel Lewes If They Orchestrate Rovers Inclusive Signage But there's only one drawback with that, it stands for Clitoris.
  19. Fair play mate. Top banter. It must be tough putting in all the hard yards at a tiny ramshackle ground with only a few stands, small gates, lower league football and a much bigger and more successful neighbour just down the road but anyway, enough about Bristol Rovers. Wish Lewes FC every success for the season.
  20. lets talk some figures regarding recent stadium construction. The Brentford Community Stadium - 3 1/2 years to build. 17250 capacity. Total Cost 71 Million pounds. Plough Lane - 18 months to build. 9215 capacity. Total Cost 34 Million pounds. How much do we honestly think it would cost developers to build the sags a 28000 capacity stadium on the fruit market site? How much would they be able to pay back in rent and how long would it take developers to get their money back? Just look at the issues that Coventry have had with their ground contracts. In the current financial climate it makes absolutely no sense for anyone involved.
  21. According to an e-mail I've just had this afternoon, that figure is now over 10,000.
  22. It really does seem like a missed opportunity for a lot of clubs and for spreading the womens game around the country more widely. Ashton Gate or Home Park would have obviously been sensible choices in the South West while the Midlands has multiple options and, as you said, the North East as well.
