  1. Digressing slightly, but I am coming over to Bristol next week - €70 return trip with EasyJet from Paris/Lulsgate.

I shall only be bringing small hand baggage, but, as @Slippin cider mentioned above, had I wanted to bring a suitcase, it would have cost in excess of €300!

I’d imagine a few of you would have seen Gab Sutton on Twitter, a completely harmless lad that tweets about the football league.

The absolute ******* that used to manage Rovers decided to send him this… because he committed the grave crime of not having Paddy Madden in his team of the week. ******* pond life.

If he wasn’t so utterly nasty it would be amusing just how much he has lost the plot.

I have just read JB's tweet.

What on earth is wrong with the man.

Unless I have totally misread and misunderstood his message, JB is calling out a young lad (13/14 years old?) and threatening to flush his head down the toilet.

Obviously empty, meaningless threats, but even so.

JB has evidently lost the plot entirely.

Oh, just one more thing - it isn't possible for JB to find out our true identities and addresses is it? image.jpeg.01e3740b4d3adf4bddb64269a82636ab.jpeg

  3. Gloucestershire top of their league.

Make a note of it @slartibartfast, a collector's item and all that 😉.

    Lammonby gone for 90, 217/3

Disappointing, as I was thinking only a few minutes ago that he looked in fine form and set for a big score, hopefully beating his FC career best 116.

Surprisingly (to my mind) Goldsworthy seems to be justifying his promotion.

I see that Tom Banton has come in ahead of James Rew, presumably with an eye on the forthcoming new ball?

Two wickets for Parkinson as well, who appears to be getting some reaction from the pitch.

I wonder whether Somerset might regret not picking Bashir instead of Ball.

    Somerset 108 - 1 chasing 284.

….for a first innings lead and, hopefully, some useful batting points.

I’ve not really been following the match closely today - as ever, the live stream from Canterbury is pretty poor - but does anyone know why Somerset decided to bring in Goldsworthy ahead of Rew and Banton?

Good grief. So I can’t accuse Manchester City of immorality or wrongdoing without mentioning every other instance of immorality or wrongdoing at the same time. Just utter nonsense.

If I call Harold Shipman a mass murderer but don’t mention Fred West in the same sentence, it doesn’t mean I think Fred West was a nice chap.

To be fair, nor do I, but apparently he could lay a very nice patio 😉.

    An interesting career progression.

Apparently not. The owners have said the reason they're closing is that it's not financially viable in the week.

There is a trend away from taster menu's to small plates, so seems they're following that model.

    Enjoy Marmo.

    Your penultimate paragraph is interesting.

Over the years, I have experienced several tasting menus, sometimes accompanied with the recommended wine floats, and, whilst most have been interesting, I can’t say I have left any of them with the feeling that I have enjoyed a fantastic meal.

As I said, the experiences have generally been interesting, but not sufficiently so that I felt like returning.

I appreciate that age affects appetite, but I far prefer a delicate starter followed by a well prepared and presented main course, than the typical 9 course tasting menus.

I rarely have a cheese course nowadays, as I have a wonderful cheese shop close by, and I find frequently that their choice and quality is superior than the majority of local restaurants, even including Michelin starred - obviously, far from the Île de France region, one is tempted to diversify and try local cheeses, dishes and wines.

Quite interesting, i had to check who his father in law is though, george burley, the old ipswich manager.

Very interesting, in fact, that you had to look up George Burley and describe him as ‘the old Ipswich manager’.

It is obviously an age/generation thing, and please don’t take offence as none is intended, but George Burley was a fantastic full back, who played in the late, great Bobby Robson’s fantastic Ipswich team of the late 1970s/early 1980s, winning quite a few caps for Scotland, who, believe it or not, were not a bad team back then.

George Burley did manage Ipswich for some years, but, unfortunately, suffered (allegedly) from a drinking problem.

He had a nephew (or son?), Craig, who was also a very good full back, playing for Chelsea and Celtic, and also capped numerous times for Scotland.

Yes, I used to like Ipswich back then and, were it not for a certain CEO, would be willing them on for promotion.

I have some good memories from the previous Youth Cup games a long time ago and appreciate the players who made it to our first team.

Unable to watch or even listen to commentary but from the comments from almost everyone in this thread, the under 18's squad and coaches have done a very good job with a group of boys who hopefully, will make it to City's first team.

So thank you under 18's for making it so far in the Youth Cup and best wishes for the rest of your careers.

Obviously too late for this season, but the game was available to watch on FA Player.

It requires just a basic task of registering - I'm not sure, but I think I registered originally in order to watch some of the England women's matches.

Feel free to send me a PM should you require some guidance.

  11. I flicked over to watch the last few minutes of the Portsmouth vs Derby match, and saw Marlon Pack and Korey Smith were playing, but there was no sign of Ryley Towler, not even on the bench.

Is he injured, or has he just fallen out of favour?

There were so many hopes for him before he went out on loan to Wimbledon, where he performed well by all accounts.

I was happy that he was able to take the ball into their final third at a time when Leicester were upping the pressure on us.

If he was a natural goal scorer he'd play up front rather than where he does.

I was similarly pleased, but just thought it a shame that, having done all the hard work so well, he chose to shoot from an optimistic angle rather than square it, where natural goal scorers were ready and available.

Yes a much improved McCrorie performance from his damp squib appearances recently. Makes me think he's back fully fit again and ready to contribute.

Especially if he could learn to square the ball instead of shooting into the side netting, something Sykes was also guilty of.

He played in that cup replay I mentioned in 68 on another thread, we wo 2-1.

Him and Stuart Taylor were known as the Twin Towers !

Stuart Taylor was a real gentleman.

I never met Larry Lloyd, but I met Stuart Taylor several times and, together with Graham Day, another Rovers centre back stalwart who I knew quite well, they were both really nice men.

Sadly, all three of the aforementioned Rovers centre backs have now passed away.

Former Bristol Boy has passed away.

I posted on a thread in the ‘General’ forum how the Bristolian, ex Liverpool centre back had passed away.

Isn’t it funny how people’s memories work.

For me, Larry Lloyd was the ex Bristol Rovers player who signed for Bob Shankly’s Liverpool.

Nevertheless, I am sure most people probably remember him as the Nottingham Forest centre back, who won the European Cup.
