I thought Macca's set was excellent. I don't get this "should have retired gracefully" stuff, age is just a number in music. I remember an interview with Elvis Costello when he turned 50 and he was asked how much longer he could go on. He said "It's only rock and roll that has an obsession with age, if I was a jazz musician they would be saying, that kid Costello shows promise, he might really do something when he's older"
The fact that both he and McCartney are still bringing out new material, when other performers of their age and younger are just trotting out their hits at Butlins, should be celebrated not chastised.
Having said that, the Glastonbury audience is a different animal so I do think the set should have reflected the fact the majority will not be following his new output.
