West Bromwich Albion away match thread

Baffling that Bruce couldn’t get a tune out of a squad of this quality. -

I must’ve missed West Brom’s players being on the Ballon D’Or list. I bet Benzema was shaking in his boots. -

He hardly has the best availability record. Far more likely that he has picked up a training knock than Nige going with 1 recognised left back in the squad I would think. -

Suppose nobody has considered that Pring simply isn’t fit and Dasilva is the only player who can play there regardless of form? -

We're going to win. Both teams will score. -
Would love to see Weimann pushed out and Scott pushed into the 10 role behind two of Semenyo/Wells/Conway.

JET, my favourite ever celebration in the stands after that goal vs Rovers. The large, considerably cidered man stood near us fell onto his back during the ensuing scenes. He was stuck like an upside down turtle, unable to get himself up, but arms up, absolutely elated, and still screaming in celebration. Took two of us pulling him up by an arm each before he could get himself to his feet. Good times.

As average as JD’s crossing is, if nobody is running between the lines when he has it in an attacking position then what else is he supposed to do? It’s not his game

Agree with all above that you cannot drop Conway and Wells with how efficient we have been up front, and how effective Semenyo is from the bench against tiring defences. However, rotation will need to come into this at some point. Conway from what I’ve seen has an incredible work rate. The worst thing we could do is let him get burnt out starting 3 times in 7 days frequently. Semenyo is hardly a bad option to bring in just to freshen things up for a match. I imagine Conway will be swapped for Semenyo when starting 1 of the next 2 games and definitely for cup games. However, I know Nige was imploring the Ghana manager to manage Semenyo’s fitness well when speaking on Radio Bristol before last night’s game. So maybe we will not see Semenyo starting games until after the international break. Seems that Nigel feels he still needs to be eased into it given his injuries.

Norwich City away match thread

Naismith has not made any mistakes. He knows that players like Scott, Conway and Semenyo are too hot property to stay at Bristol City. He is keeping us just outside playoffs until after January where he’ll turn into prime Beckenbauer for our late title push. I won’t hear anything else. Some player. -

For those wanting Naismith out of defence: I’m curious to know who you would replace him with that would allow us to still play in the same way and be able to start attacking moves from defence by playing balls through the lines? Because I don’t see another player in our squad who can. -

We are playing great football and just making some silly mistakes. Now is not the time to start messing around with the core principles of how we are doing that, meaning Naismith should keep playing where he is. -

Loving our attacking play but it would be nice now to have another midfielder on and not let Blackburn have so much of the ball. We still have Semenyo to run behind if we take Wells or Weimann off -

I don’t know who is a bigger unit, Semenyo or Fleming. -

Would be good to get another central midfielder on and keep ball a bit more now. -
I think they are different, James very rarely gives the ball away in tight midfield spaces. Naismith - Great passing range, ability to pick a pass through the lines. James - Not the same passing range, but able to receive the ball in tight spaces, retain possession and keep the ball ticking over.
-
Disagree, the reason he has been so impressive is having time at the back to thread the ball through the lines. He was not signed to play in midfield. We already have Scott and to a lesser extent Massengo in midfield who are more athletic and also have the technical ability to pick a pass.

Semenyo is not a striker they score goals

This thread should be pinned for all the OTIBers that write off our youngsters while still developing to refer to when they have the urge to do it again. -

We’d have drawn that 1-1 last season -
Don’t we have 5 subs now?

Part of our form has coincided with Naismith having the time at the back to pick that pass. That’s what he was brought in for. He doesn’t get that time in midfield.
