I’m  sure his brother sometimes plays (played) at Whitchurch RBL, I’ve not been in there for a while, I was a member but suddenly felt I was getting too near the demographic and needed to get back into pubs…….

Shamus still live next door 😆

I guess the “bigger” club will always be up for debate.

I would say their few years in the premier league outweigh anything we have ever achieved.

Would also question how well they were run. Lots of talk about how they got to the premier league. Fact is, they did.

All depends how you define big club, Oldham and Swindon spent time in the premiership, are they bigger ?

Hello. I don’t know if this is a good idea to post, but I’m the dad of the child - my son, Jay (not his real name) - that ran onto the pitch in the early stages of the match. First and foremost, I want to offer a profound apology to you all, to every fan, the players and clubs for Jay’s actions. I’d like to try and provide some context, if you’ll let me, to help explain what happened and why.

Jay has just turned 11. He has autism and is suffering from PTSD after 3 years of physical abuse at school, being restrained by teaching staff (which was concealed from us). Both of these conditions create complex issues for Jay, one of which is he is heightened to what he may (incorrectly) perceive of as a threat, causing he to flee. This is what we think happened on Saturday.

We were enjoying the game and then all of a sudden, he said he needed to go to the toilet. I asked him to wait and then before I knew it, he said ‘I’m going to the toilet’, for up and walked down the steps. I was about to go after him and then - out of nowhere, he turned and jumped the barrier. We were stocked and horrified. We couldn’t believe it. I tried to shout to him but he couldn’t hear me. At that point, I was really worried for him. He didn’t know what he was doing. As I ran to jump the barrier, I saw him fall. I (worryingly) thought he’d be tackled and - rightly or wrongly - I got protective of my little boy. When I got to him, he was petrified. I said ‘it’s ok I’ve got you’ turned to get him off the pitch but the Rotherham fans were shouting hateful comments, threats and abuse at him. Again, I should have reacted much better, but I responded to protect my child. I know it doesn’t look like he was scared - we do not condone he sticking his finger up - but this is a know protective response from children with disabilities like Jay. I felt exposed and vulnerable myself and so went into ‘fight’ mode. To be honest, it’s all blur. I was saying to him ‘it’s ok, I’ll get you out of here’.

The stewards tried to direct me off the other side of the pitch but I was worried about my eldest son, who was all alone in the stand. I just ran off and left him. He was so scared too. The stewards then grabbed me and I tried to say I’m just protecting Jay.

Again, I am sorry deeply sorry to you all. This shouldn’t have happened and I take full responsibility. I’m sorry. My family are devastated, for lots of reasons, about what happened. I’m worried about my job, Jay being identified and targeted. The ongoing social media hate is really hard to deal with. I get why people are so angry. Football is precious and match days are special and to be treated as such. What Jay did was not acceptable but I hope, by posting this, you might be able to understand it more. This was about disabilities and the difficulty of managing them daily. I messed up and let Jay down. It will take me a long time to get over this. As his father I must do better.

    Please accept my apologies.

Fair play to you for clarifying, this must of been very traumatic for all concerned, hopefully it doesn't put you and your boys off from seeing us get promotion next season 😃

Having lived in Stoke for 5 years, I can give a bit of perspective here.

As soon as you get out of the city boundary you are in superb countryside with the Peak District, The Roaches, Cheshire Plain, Cannock Chase etc..

So name one positive about living in Stoke? The roads leading out of the City!

However, I am still very much in touch with some amazing Stokies. They are genuinely nice people.

A few months ago, I was chatting to 2 of my Stokie friends and a conversation about what Noel Gallagher said at a gig when he spoke to a Stokie on stage. Noel called the place a ****hole or something like that. My Stokie friend immediately lambasted Noel by saying he has no right to say that because only those that live there can call it a ****hole! Stokies know Noel may well be right but...

Part of the problem I think with Stoke is their infrastructure is built on late 1800/ early 1900 designs and that there are 5 towns(or 6 depending who you ask) making up the City of Stoke. Each town with it's own identity.

Whilst we no longer live there, it is always a pleasure to re-visit. Yes, I can even name a great pub or two in Hanley. Yes our only child was born there as well. Will I defend the City of Stoke as a place of beauty and infrastructure? No. Will I defend though the people that live there and at the end of the day, that's what counts? Too damn right I would (with apologies for borrowing one of the great movie lines said by Jack Nicholson. Bonus point to anyone who can quote the exact comment and name the film)!

Here’s Jonnie when they signed Jon Walters ?

As far as I saw 2 maybe 3 people ran on after we equalised at 1-1, but I was going so mad celebrating myself I didn't really see

The dad of the goalscorer 😆 Done the same at AG in the early ninety’s goading the Rovers fans right in front of the open end when Louie Donawa got the winner to beat them for the first time in many a year, what a lad 😆

Great free kick, very little else.

I mentioned a couple of months ago I'd hoped he was a young Jamie Paterson, so far I've seen nothing to suggest he's as good as Paterson was.

He goes missing a lot and personally I'd pass, and get someone less hyped, maybe from abroad.

I've never seen a City player go missing so badly and regularly as Paterson did

Nope, he's a good poster imo and that you, or others, don't agree with his posts is beside the point.

You are notable for the number of posts you make super, but also the brevity of the vast majority of those posts, more often than not confined to 1 line.

When challenged WSM goes out of his way to explain his views in some depth, to me that's a good poster whether you agree with him or not.

I hope he re-news and buys some sort of ST and hope he carries on posting on this forum but personally I find his constant negativity quite depressing and draining

Could just be a confidence thing with Yeboah. He was in and around the squad, getting minutes off the bench, and is then farmed out to non league to make room for a loan signing who never plays. Can’t be doing him good mentally.

This is the other side of the disastrous signing of Mbude. Whoever had the final say has dropped a bollock here.

Maybe the bollock was dropped in the first place when it was deemed he was good enough for our first team squad when at the moment he isn’t even good enough for the starting line-up at 6th level ?

Bit harsh, but not totally wrong I guess. He's still only 17 and I don't think he's been available for every game there due to the U18 Cup run ( at least Transfermarkt has him not in some squads so I'm assuming ).
The bit's I've seen he's not looked out of place , but it is his first sort of run in mens football. He will be available for a League loan next season , that will be interesting .

Let’s hope he kicks on next year

Should we be at all concerned that a couple of our lads, particularly Yeboah can’t get into Baths side? Admittedly I dont follow Bath or know anything about their squad.

Obviously not good enough at the moment which makes it strange how he ever made our 1st team squad in the first place seeing as he can’t make the starting 11 of a sixth tier team !!!!

Indeed, thought I was on the wrong forum for a moment.😳

All this movie star talk too. Our friends daughter works in TV and films, reckons Anthony Hopkins is a real gent.

Big Tone started it, he showing off that he's worked with the Hollywood elite and had a "dalliance" with Cate Blanchett 😃

He was Ok and friendly enough.  Joel Schumacher was the Director and a nicer guy you couldn't meet. Admit to being quite upset when he passed away. Jerry Bruckheimer was the Producer but apart from a few hello's had little to do with him.

Sorry Tone, because i don't mix with the Hollywood elite (Unlike you) l've no idea who these German sounding guys are (excuse my ignorance) 🤣

Big Tone mixing with the Hollywood elite, whatever next, what was Colin Farrell like ? He was a bit wild in his younger days

Helena Bonham-Carter, Julianne Moore, Michelle Pfieffer would all be more than welcome!  But truth told I'm more than happy with Mrs Robbo. Just in case you're reading Otib for the first time in your life, you're fab! 😍

I forgot about Michelle Pfieffer, that will do me (only joking Mrs Tom)

She's an American actress and I have to be honest I googled "attractive actresses" to find her. The ones I used to fancy are now too old or too odd for the average board member.

Too old ? someone like Gwyneth or Cate Blanchett would do for me despite being in their 50s (slightly less likely than Rovers finishing in the top 2)

Some of it was, Google was my friend for others! 🤣🤣🤣

I think the financial stuff was overplayed.  E.g. is it really a surprise that they couldn’t re-contract Andre Ayew on £80k p.w, now they’d lost PPs.  I think it was just returning to being sensible, rather than being anything like us, Brum, Reading, etc.

    👌

Really?  Just finished 4th, missing out in playoffs under Cooper.  They lost £80k p.w. Andre Ayew, and Connor Roberts and Jamal Lowe, but that was it, bringing in Downes, Obafemi, Piroe, Pato, Christie.  Under no threat of FFP. In fact the year before they turned in a profit (final £15m PP).

Haha did all that come off the top of your head Dave ? 🤣

I seem to remember Swansea were heading for some financial difficulty which was why Cooper left them after the play-offs, i probably have got that totally wrong
