Not sure, but for some reason 15k comes to mind. May have dreamed it, but I think we did really well the first year the whole ground was open.

That was my initial reaction too

For some reason I seem to remember that there was mention about the maximum number being sold as a certain percentage had to be available to still purchase each game

  2. Five first team players will leave the Robins this summer.

Defender Satara Murry will leave City following the conclusion of the 2021/22 FA Championship season after making the journey across the Altantic to link up with Lauren Smith’s Robins in the summer of 2021.

The Jamaican international was an experienced and inspirational figure for many in the young City squad, making 24 appearances across the campaign at the heart of the defence.

Chelsea-loanee Aggie Beever-Jones will return to her parent club following a fantastic year of service in the City shirt.

Beever-Jones made 27 appearances as the forward featured in all but one of Bristol City’s fixtures across the entire 2021/22 season, scoring eight goals.

The forward’s form for the Robins was translated onto the international stage. Beever-Jones shone when on duty with the England Under-19s as they secured their spot at the Under-19 UEFA European Championships this summer.

Izzy Cook and Maisy Collis will also depart having progressed through the club’s player pathway system and into the first team squad over the last two seasons.

Simran Jhamat leaves the club after one season in the South West, making a total of 12 appearances and scoring two goals.

Everyone associated with the club would like to thank all five players for their contributions and wish them well in the future.

  3. I'm sure in the recent Robins uncut video when Pearson was addressing the team he mentioned it was the following day would be the last time they would be together, hinted that all the usual tests before the summer had been done

I'd imagine that meant things would be moving very quickly this week

Yep, he’s shelled out around £124m this season but he’s recouped at least £90m in transfers out - so has he really ‘spent an absolute fortune’ ?

To be pedantic, yes he has spent a fortune.

BUT, he's also received a fortune as well

"For no proper reason...."  - try the Safety Advisory Group advising the Local Authority regarding the stipulations of the licence.  What sort of brain thinks that a club would deliberately reduce their capacity level, in order that they can sell less tickets for matches? ?

You are spot on, the cess pit of a ground is unsafe to hold any serious numbers now, no doubt the building of additional tents has taken additional standing space on those magnificent open terraces

If the linesmen can only run half the length of the pitch and quite often they only cover the middle third of that half then have 4 linesmen and then enforce where throw ins should be taken as in rugby. Where there is action in the penalty area there are obviously blind spots from both the linesman on the other side and the referee.

Was always puzzled when they had the extra official behind the goal in European games that they were always the same side of the pitch as the linesmen, was the perfect time to solve the problem of a official possibly having a blind spot on the opposite side of the pitch

I personally think we now misundstand as a society how to create atmosphere at grounds. Blaring loud music pre game actually kills a good atmosphere. Pre music blaring...crowds would anticipate the start of a game and an atmosphere would naturally build.

Again with singing...if it's done just to make some noise...then it kills any natural atmosphere.

Can't beat some well sung chants supporting and getting behind the team...the rest of it is just irritating white noise.

Completely agree with this point, but it is easy to name songs that fans use the tunes of to sign along to - these songs kill two birds by creating the tunes for fans to sign to

I would like them to consider something to reduce kit clashes - particularly where there is an obvious difficulty for colour blind players/supporters.

Refereeing teams should be able to identify potentially difficult clashes (there are free apps that show what the world is like for people with different types of colour blindness) and the league should be capable of gathering kit information as the kits are released, in the process identifying & mitigating potential clashes.

I would expect them to consider introducing a rule that an away kit should not clash with the clubs own home kit.

I get that football is a business now, moreso than the days of clubs having the same shirts for 4 years, but there is absolutely no reason to have a shirt you can only use in games that it would be perfectly fine to wear your home shirt in. Shirt sales have such little value at the top of the pyramid anyway; if it's about the money, let's deal with inclusivity first and then the money men can fight out whether you can have an extra sponsors patch across the players' shirts.

If a team turns up with only their away kit/third kit and it's a particularly awkward clash, the home side should have a suitable alternative lined up.

I believe there has been a bit of discussion between the club, the SC&T and a number of affected supporters on this topic and City are leading the way with trying to get a resolution to this problem

Possibly not common knowledge but Scott Murray mentioned that he was colour blind and he has seen first hand from his role in the club the problems being created

Hopefully this is something that will be resolved for those impacted

  9. Not Championship yet, but potentially a side going to have problems

Burnley face 'significant' loan repayment if relegated, accounts show

Burnley would need to pay back "a significant proportion" of a £65m loan at the end of the season if relegated from the Premier League.

The loan was taken out as part of the club's takeover by ALK Capital in December 2020.

The information is contained in the release of the club's latest financial accounts to 31 July 2021.

The club does say in the event of relegation it is "satisfied" it would retain the support of its lenders.

However, the information is bound to spark concern among fans given the delicate position of Burnley in the Premier League table.

Widely condemned as a panic move by chairman Alan Pace, who led the ALK takeover, the decision has so far been vindicated by a run of four matches unbeaten under temporary boss Mike Jackson, including three successive wins.

That has taken Burnley, who have four games remaining, up to 16th in the table, two points clear of Everton, who are third from bottom but have a game in hand.

The financial state of Burnley has been debated since ALK's takeover.

In the latest accounts, it is confirmed that £102m-worth of debt has been taken on through two of its holding companies, £65m to Burnley FC Holdings Ltd and £37m to the Burnley Football and Athletic Company.

On the £65m loan specifically, it is outlined in the accounts that it attracts 8% annual interest. Only interest payments are made until December 2025, when the entire sum due is due to be repaid.

However, relegation brings that repayment date forward significantly, with a further "significant reduction of the loan balance" due in what is described as "a continuing relegation scenario" - if the club failed to return to the top flight.

"The balance can potentially be settled by various means, and the group's reserves are sufficient to enable a significant proportion of the balance to be settled by way of dividends if required," the accounts say.

The club has £50m in reserves - down from £80m in last year's financial results.

Over the year to July 2021, the club's turnover fell from £134m to £115m, which the club said was driven by "the lack of fan attendance" due to Covid restrictions "and the lower placed league finish at 17th".

It mean the club recorded a £3m pre-tax loss.

The accounts also state that following the end of the reporting period, Burnley advanced £10m to a "fellow group company".

Has there been lots of rain or have they over watered the pitch?

Torrential all day, luckily for those inside the ground it eased off in time for kick off.

Sky sports were getting overly excited reporting on the rain all afternoon
