  1. Somerset v Cardiff uni now moved to Taunton Vale due to problems with the outfield.

Looking at pictures tonight we're going to have big problems this season, if anyone remembers the horrible divets we had on the outfield a couple of years ago, it currently looks worse than that. The new drainage is failing and there are bumps all over the place.

The best part is the groundsman is blaming the weather over the winter!  Now unless 20 miles down the road had conditions different to the rest of us, we had a really mild and dry  winter

I hope all my fellow City fans have enjoyed their long and sustained period as supporters of Bristol's number one club, as we have only a short time left in this glorious position.

I think you have been brainwashed by someone North of the river - there is nothing to say our long domination is anywhere near ending

UWE have got so fed up they've had informal meetings with an organisation associated with a rather large summer sport, who would be interested in UWEs original plan of 5k.

Apart from Rugby League is there a "large" summer sport?

Certainly won't be Glos CC on the move

  4. RIP PAUL

THE heartbroken children of a 42-year-old cyclist, who died while taking part in Tour De Bristol, have paid tribute to their 'amazing father'.

Paul Withey, who lived in Mangotsfield, suffered a suspected heart attack while climbing Wrington Hill during St Peter's Hospice's major cycling fundraiser on Saturday.

Other riders rushed to help Mr Withey, along with emergency services, who were there within minutes.

But sadly the father-of-two passed away at the scene.

His children Mollie, 19, and Luke, 17, released a joint statement. They said: "He was such an amazing father and friend and was loved by so many people.

"Nothing is helping the pain at the moment but all the messages we are receiving as a family emphasise how popular and loved he was.

"This was one of many charity events he was involved in, last summer he rode from Bristol to Amsterdam and has completed several charity runs.

"His family always came first, very closely followed by Bristol Rovers.

"We are proud to call him our dad/son/brother."

More than 650 competitors were taking part in St Peter's Hospice's annual Tour De Britain at the weekend including the charity's chief executive Simon Caraffi.

He said: "I would like to offer my condolences to the family and thank both the riders and emergency services who helped him.

"We are all shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of Paul Withey. I was on the ride myself and learned the terrible news as I finished.

"He received immediate CPR from other cyclists on the tour and was attended to by a medi-bike and an ambulance within minutes.

"Unfortunately they were unable to save him.

"I was on the road and came across the incident as emergency services were already there.

"The route was closed while investigations were completed, so we re-routed riders and the event was able to continue, despite this sad tragedy, without further incident.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with Paul's family and friends at this difficult time and I'd like to pay tribute to the participants and emergency services who helped at the scene, as well as the riders who cooperated brilliantly while we changed the route.

"Your respectful support was much appreciated.

"This sad incident has cast a shadow over a magnificent day of fundraising by the wonderful people of Bristol."

A post mortem examination is set to be carried out to confirm his cause of death.

South Western Ambulance Service confirmed it received a call at 11am on Saturday to reports of a cyclist suffering a cardiac arrest.

A rapid response vehicle, ambulance crews and air ambulance were dispatched immediately.

They carried out CPR at the scene but sadly he passed away at the scene.

    Bristol Rovers season tickets 2015/16: 3,526 (http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/tickets/season-tickets/)

Season tickets sold yesterday: 4,000 (https://twitter.com/BristolSportAB/status/717237342461931523

They are a massive club with the best fans in the world. How we envy them.

I'm genuinely amazed that they only had 3526 season ticket holders this season. That is a large chunk who POTD.

Mind you I wonder how many are put off by the ludicrous pricing they have

I heard I nice thing about our gaseous friends yesterday. Was playing golf against someone who is a long standing Rovers supporter but now only goes very occassionally. He remembers going to Eastville for a game v Newport County but was (understandably) disgusted to hear Rovers' supporters singing about Aberfan. Possibly the lowest thing I've heard of at football...

Really? You really have to wonder what goes on in some peoples' 'brains'. Complete lack of thought or humanity.

Sadly, in the past it was heard

Regarding Somerset, your spot on, certainly Bridgwater has a large City following. Unfortunately not as big as Man U and Liverpool though. Sometimes I wonder if I live in the north fn west!

Would agree about the Southern parts of Somerset. Whilst watching the cricket over the summer there will be City, Yeovil, Exeter and Plymouth supporters, thankfully only know of 1 Rovers fan - sadly he travels with me

Has anyone seen the article where Harry Redknapp suggests a couple of Jordan internationals could play for the Gas? Would be hilarious to see the new owner force a couple players on DC that can't speak a word of english and have no clue about english football!

Harry thinks they have several that are good enough but surely if that was the case they wouldn't be playing in the middle east still.

Don't think individuals are on sale yet.  The Glos/Somerset game should sell out quickly with Gayle featuring in that too.  First season without a membership in a long while.. boo.

All home tickets are on sale from today

Anyway - Rovers owners value. It wasnt bought by Waed, it was bought by his family who are Billionaires.  How much is he worth, i dont know,

but your missing the point.  Look at Swansea, Leicester, the structure of the club is far more important.

So who is the owner? Can it REALLY be owned by a group of people? Surely it would depend on who owns the individual shares?

Swansea are a great example look how your Chairman got on when he was with them !

  12. The T20 franchise thing looks dead in the water then !

I wonder whether Bristol Sport would have got on board with that had it happened?

    English T20 hit for six

The chances of a franchise-based Twenty20 competition in England look dead in the water.

There has been overwhelming support on the ECB working group for a T20 featuring the 18 counties in two divisions, plus a reduction in County Championship cricket from 16 games to 14.

The new format for 2017 is expected to be rubberstamped at an ECB board meeting on March 7.

Lancashire won last year's T20 Blast, but the chances of a franchise-bast competition is dead in the water

Lancashire won last year's T20 Blast, but the chances of a franchise-bast competition is dead in the water

The eight quarter-finalists from this season’s domestic T20 Blast plus a ninth team from a play-off will make up the top division for 2017.

The three counties who were represented on the working group — Somerset, Kent and Surrey — all favour 18-county involvement.
