All well and good, but a simple announcement letting us know the end of season awards were being done following the usual players walking round acknowledging the fans after the final whistle would have sufficed. Why take the players off the pitch straight away to come out later on and call it a celebration? I am all for a simple thankyou, but to big it up was really over the top.

I agree with you. They take us for mugs but this is a general ‘ dumbing down ‘ of our society. It’s only a matter of time before matches can only be drawn so as not to upset any fans.

It was Downsy's constant talk of a 'celebration' that prompted myself and the people I was with to leave almost straight away when it became clear the players weren't going to do their usual appreciation of the fans after the final whistle, which I stay for every match to show my appreciation for their efforts (win or lose), and instead went straight down the tunnel to prepare themselves for the big emotional walk around with the fans thanking them for giving us another mediocre season.

I'm not anti anyone at the club, had no massive issue with Pearson going (timing aside) and quite like us under Manning, but to big this season up as something special just stinks to me.

We heard the awards being announced as we were walking down the back of the Lansdown.

I suppose the alternative is to chuck away all the effort of everyone at the club and say ‘well that was not worth celebrating ‘.
We have had our moments this season even if overall we haven’t troubled the top six. It has been a season of transition and recuperation from a disastrous handling of the end of the Pearson era . The success is that we have stayed up despite huge pressure on the new coaching staff and the apparent progress now manifesting itself on the pitch.
Let’s hope that next season we don’t have any questions raised about ‘ success ‘.

As an aside. The other day in the city I saw a little arrow on which was written , ‘ the way to success ‘ . I followed the directions until I came to another green arrow with ‘ the road to success ‘. I was curious and continued on the way . Until I spotted another arrow pointing to the right where it was written ‘ the path to success ‘ . I duly followed. I few metres on I saw yet another sign on the door of a block of flats , it said ‘ the door to success ‘ . I opened the door and climbed the stairs. As I arrived on the third floor I saw a wooden door , ajar. I tapped on it and a man came to meet me , ‘ hi, I’m Cec’ .

Derby County play in a soulless bowl. They have done nothing for decades apart from get the record low Premier League points total. The city/town is a hellscape. They won a league title before Thatcher was PM. Its over half a century ago. They are pretty much as irrelevant as us these days.

They fill that soulless bowl with thirty thousand paying customers in a one team town.
Derby is very much not the worst town in the country and the surrounding areas, including the Peak District are well worth visiting.
I prefer Nottingham but having also lived in Derby , I am not prepared to let uneducated opinions to be formed . We are better than that on OTIB .
    Now Mansfield, that’s a hellscape .

Ultimately good ends to the season often mean nothing

It can help with recruitment as players like to play in successful teams not one’s flirting with relegation.
Could even make players like Conway hesitate to move on .

...for us. In terms of results. At this level, over the past few years.

Taking the last 10 games as a run-in of sorts, I make it our best set of results since 2016-17 season. Last 9 reads: won 5, drawn 3, lost 1.

We typically end seasons very poorly.

Guaranteed to finish in 12th at a minimum, our best league finish since 2019-20 season.

A bit of momentum going into next season?

    Here's hoping.

We wouldn’t have got these results with Pearson in charge.

Pretty sure he went down the tunnel into the changing room before the game had even finished

I can understand his frustration but if you aren’t good enough that’s just tough.

"We need to take the emotion out of it"

    Now apparently we didn't listen.

Same as the players don't listen when we have lost.

    Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.

I really want to have some belief in this guy, because I don't have any modicum of belief in anyone above him.

But all I see and hear is a blagger.

He is desperate for approval like LJ was . It can be tiresome, I prefer the football to do their promotion.

I thought it was a decent interview. He makes a point of trying to dispel the OTIB/social media myth that he's a robot and doesn't want emotion to be part of football. He denies that, and said they even covered it in training. He wants us to have fight, and to be on the fine line between emotion and control.

Good to see that he’s learning from OTIB.

Funny, but not true Ronnie as  most of the tanning salons in Southend had already gone bust when Steve Jones (formerly of this parish) moved on from Southend to The Chair boys. 😬

There’s no truth in the rumour that Phil Brown is going to change his name to Phil Orange.

he has flaws to his game that others would see.

Of course he has flaws in his game he is relatively inexperienced and still learning his trade.
However, and here is the big point, how many players at the top of their trade play for our club ?
Most are up and coming or the other side of their peak, to consider promotion we need to have a backbone in the first team of players who are at or near to their best. Can we attract / keep this type ?

Yes, but along with Max whose keeping and kicking improved from October, Tanner who has arguably been the most improved outfield player since October, Pringo, Williams, Cornick, and defo Wells. In fact its not easy to find players who havent improved with a coach who all the players like and respectDoritos Licker GIF by Pepsico BNL
