I thought Case-Grande was something people ordered at Starbucks
I thought it was the Villa on love island (sometimes you have to spend quality time with the other half)

Lockdown did wierd things to everyone, probably best not to hold that against him. I’m sure in the cold light of day he would think of things differently.
Lockdown didn’t make me say and post total nonsense,I was doing that a long time before COVID hit

Steve Lansdown became chairman in 2002, not sure when he became all powerful as the 'owner' of this football club, but since then many contentious decisions......often wondered,if it had been Peter Hargreaves rather than SL would our fortunes have been so much better ......?
Um no seeing as Hargreaves has no interest in football like lansdown

Back from Middlesbrough, and check in here expecting to find some happiness and some positivity after a great day…and what do I find? Just two new post match threads: one seemingly designed to provoke an argument, and the other headed “…..But”
Come on.
We’ve got a result no-one really expected for the second time in 4 days. We’ve romped to a two goal lead playing some great football, and then defended that lead successfully, only conceding one lucky-ish goal in injury time. We’ve done that after playing 120 minutes at a PL side only 4 days earlier, whilst Middlesbrough had a free week.
And, R####s lost at home.
Let’s just celebrate. Well done lads!
(And thanks @Olé for bringing a bit of positivity!)
Couldn’t agree more, some people are just negative nellys

Answered earlier. I wanted us to keep the ball better so it wasn’t incessant defending, take any sting out of Boro. Happy for low-block, you earn the right at h-t at 2-0 up to be more conservative. I understand from someone who spoke to LM after the match, that was his disappointment too.
Let it go Dave

It’s easy to look at statistics but when you are in the job then you have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture

Yep, SSN I have, but to qualify its that every formation has its pros and cons, and they can vary defending on with formation you're playing against..and personnel. I thought going to the shape we did opened up channels and spaces for Boro. And also made it difficult for us to retain possession.
Of course, maybe the players executed the plan poorly, ie plan was sound. I’ll happily concede that. I doubt Manning did it without reason.
You’re just making stuff up now. What is it with misquotes tonight?
What did you want to set the team up second half then Dave ,hard to break down or keep attacking because the former worked

Quiet , unassuming , zero ego , and gets his head down and gets on with it - has settled and improved bit by bit
Good on him and an excellent piece of recruitment

Right, so you aren't talking about controlling possession; just having a bit more of it. That makes more sense, though you'll be aware "passing it around the back four" carries a fair bit of risk too i.e. one misplaced pass and the opposition are in.
Strikes me that with no league win this year until today, Manning took the pragmatic approach and decided the result was more important than the performance. Also bear in mind he has literally had next to no sessions on the training pitch since the new year due to the number of games we've had. He clearly doesn't think the players are quite there yet to be fully confident with a possession based game, tho we are seeing some promising early signs imo. Fair enough.
We'll have to disagree on the performance of the defence, which I thought was v good (tho note on another thread you name three of our defenders as your performers of the day??), and also that Boro didn't really cut us open too often imo, and that it was a deserved win - I think it was fully deserved.
It’s a easy game football, get the game won by half time and then why risk it,the result is all that matters,we carved them open numerous times first half and then to think we would try to play the same way 2nd half is madness

Obviously not every game pans out the same way.
If a team is 2-0 down they have nothing to loose.
If they have quality, they are bound to go for it & cause problems.
Sitting back to contain them (after a gruelling recent fixture list) is one option, we did it & we won.
If we'd have carried on attacking & been caught out then that would have been wrong.
Getting the result is what mattered & we showed how good we can be to get the game won in the first half.
That is common sense,to think Dave still wanted us to attack is either naive or plain stupid

Come on now. Without myself fully being on board with the original post, no one can honestly say ‘Manning has barely taken any stick‘ on this forum.
It’s nonsense and anyone with their senses can see it,even after today they can’t help themselves

No, I started threads on other things. I’d posted how good in the MDT.
And I’ve referenced it enough in this thread without needing to start one.

I made one thread about the second half…hardly picking holes is it? And balanced against all the other positive posts?
Did you or anyone start a thread about how good we were first half because I didn’t see it(it’s a city thing being negative because I do it as well tbf)

Just explaining how I feel about him. I want him to do well, 1) he’s Bristol City manager and 2) I find him quite likeable. That make sense?
Of course mate but to pick holes in a 2-0 away win seemed a bit off,we all think we can be managers but actually doing it and posting on a forum are not the same

I think people see WIN and think everything was fine.
At the start of the 2nd half, I saw little reason to change anything too drastic, but happy to play more cautiously, not over-commit players forward. I didn’t see a need to encourage a team 2-0 down to go 235 against an increasingly pressured back 5 and play 45 mins in our half.
No, I do actually, he’s quite likeable. But I sometimes see contradiction. I’ve said before I think he’s genuine, and I like that.
I was desperate for him to get a win today, get the winless streak off his back and try to get something building. If I didn’t like him, I’d want him to fail.
Are you serious there,if I didn’t like him I would want him to fail Jesus behave yourself mate,if you’re feelings towards a manager overcomes the success of our club then you’re head needs a wobble

It seems some can’t even after a city win,all I hear is we done this and that second half,no threads saying how brilliant we were first half I noticed

I feel the fact we played 120 minutes midweek invited the pressure.
We didn't press anywhere near as well as the 2nd half went on, we looked knackered and off our feet. The changes pushed us deeper, but at that point we were trying to conserve the win, going for anything more would have been ridiculous, they'd have walked through us
That could have a saying but Dave will be able to tell us how much we ran midweek

Why not? It’s common to start threads after a game, things get lost in the MDT.
I have no issue with trying to protect a lead, but you can do that in different ways. But for a manager who talks so much about controlling possession it feels weird that wasn’t his solution to take the sting out of an opponent? If we’d bored them to death second half, I’d be thinking very different tonight. It was more the manner of what happened.
Dave mate you don’t like him much do you,do you think a manager can be judged in a year at our place let alone a few months

Okay. Personally not convinced that performance must equal result (in any direction).
That’s fine, end of the day we could of been home and hosed by half time,if going defensive second half to protect then I’m fine with that,be boring if we all agreed

If giving up territory and possession was the best way to defend a lead… no one is suggesting going gung ho, but think we could have protected the lead in a way that left us less exposed.
The best way is how we done it because it bloody worked
