    Right for what it's worth.

The decision to get rid of Pearson, the timing and the way they did it was wrong.

    Got nothing against Manning.

If he delivers, he'll be our hero (and worshipped). If he doesn't, he'll, quite rightly, get pelters from the fans (and the boot).

Good luck to him, for all our sakes.

But there ain't no honeymoon period.

Knowing City there will indeed be a period during the honeymoon.

But they just want to argue for the sake of arguing.

Well, I just hope it follows what we’ve been recruiting towards for 18-24 months, because that’s what Tins said last week.  The criticism of Nige wasn’t the “plan” but the “performance” (according to JL and Tins) whether I agree or not with the decision.

I’d hope that you’d agree that if we are going heavily away from what we have been, that you’d question what the “hell” (polite version) the Tech Director and Head of Technical Director have been doing. rip it up and start again.

    I refuse to believe that.

The forum doesn’t account for all fans, but it is open to all and can reasonably be considered to be a representative cross section. Ridiculous to suggest that a poll of 800 supporters here isn’t broadly representative of the majority view.

I can't argue that 90 % thought it was wrong at that moment because there was a knee jerk reaction to what was widely seen as an ill thought move.

It's funny what difference a week makes. No protests at BS3 and even the likes of James Piercy and regular commentator/City fan Matt Withers saying that there are two sides to the coin.

The same poll conducted now may yield different results. Polls are all about timing as well as the question options and how the questions are phrased.

It’s just another way of regaining control by the Lansdownes. Pretty obvious to most. Rather have “Yes Boss” coaches than a manager who told us all the truth. Johnson mark 2 recruitment in Manning.

Your constant drivel and attack against the owners would gain 3-4% more credibility if you were able to spell their name  correctly after over 20 years.

On the Oxford podcast, their assistant Chris Hogg said they are very much a team.

One interesting point that was made on the podcast is that Hogg lives in Ipswich and commutes to Oxford and that they feel that Bristol would be just too far to commute which it obviously is.

So there is a real possibility that Manning comes here without his long time friend and assistant. How that would work, I don't know.

Well just imagine what it's like for McCrorie who lives somewhere north of Glasgow and has to be on the treatment table by 9a.m..

It's crazy that all these people do so much driving everyday. If only Bristol had flats to rent or hotels or a good Air B&B.

Yep, my worry (albeit no problem with it being him, particularly vs some of the names bandied around), is who does the manager role? Seems to have disappeared in the structure, but can’t see BT doing it. Maybe LM has that as well as the coaching, but thought it was key to what NP brought, with CF and JY leading on the coaching.

    BT LM NP CF JY

    You'd be screwed on Countdown.

It felt like we had got to the point where we could now push on.

I think that is exactly the point.

Nige got us in the position where we can hopefully push on but with a new impetus. Personally, I think Nige should have been given til the end of the season before the change.

I note that Matt Withers who I enjoy reading on BL and seems very level headed said probably until Christmas. James Piercy wrote a brilliant piece on BL today which covers all the various positions taken by club and fans.

Edit: Perhaps LM was always the plan but the club felt if he delivered promotion then he may not be so keen to comee/ too expensive/ better offers. Who knows.

If he doesn't produce success with a squad which the owners think is good enough to challenge, then the axe has to fall in the same manner as it did with Pearson.

The Lansdowns have made numerous appointments like this, none have been a success. Whilst I'm sure Manning is a lovely guy, it's not that I don't have faith in him, it's that the Lansdowns track record at this type of appointment means I don't have faith in them making this appointment.

Yes- it probably does but however much they "believe" or "think" that we should be challenging at the top end of the table unless Liam Manning completely falls flat on his face then he'll be here for a while and certainly beyond this season.

I appreciate you are incredibly pro NP but you must understand that whilst many appreciate his excellent work behind the scenes, he was no more successful than most of our appointments . Same as most other club appointments.

Just as an aside and genuinely well meant to you- if you have a major difference with another poster just stand your ground or just move on- no need to take it personally or block. I know this!

Neither excited, nor disappointed with the appointment. It might work, it might not, but I obviously hope it does. Think he's got a tough old job on his hands.

Name me one new City Manager in the last 20 years who has had anything but a tough old job on their hands when taking over and that pretty much goes for virtually every club.

I've said this countless times today.

But as the club have set an expectation of challenging, then he doesn't get the chance to strive to be a success. He has to be an instant success.

The club sets an expectation of challenging along with about 60 other clubs.

He has to be an instant success according to who?

Most fans will who actually bother to attend will give him a fair chance so long as they see what he's trying to do.

The Lansdowns have appointed 3 Managers in 8 years ( until as and when Liam is appointed) so I think it's fair to say they also give them a chance often long after the fans have lost faith.

I'll be delighted if my concerns end up being unfounded and that Liam Manning leads us to the Premier league like Jon Lansdown thinks he can.

As I said earlier, I'll be the 1st to sing his name if he is a success.

I'm sorry that my concern for the future of the club that I support, is such a big issue of yours.

If I can't air my concerns here, where can I?

I guess that's where there is a perhaps a difference between you and some others.

There are those who may well sing his name whilst he's striving to be a success and not waiting until he's already succeeded.

Fair play to the Sheffield Wednesday fans who were singing Danny Rohl's name after two games and bottom of the division.

P.s did you wait to sing 'Nigel Pearson Cider Army' until after he left? Pretty much all of Ashton Gate did having not bothered for two and a half years.

  12. However, if he winds up staying then I'll be absolutely furious that we have a manager so lacking in ambition he wouldn't take a step up when offered on a plate."

"You should’ve called him a Judas and a selfish pr*ck and a liar and a snake and a sneaky **** and questioned his integrity as a man as well as a professional.
You would have come across as much more reasonable”.

"Cost us a few quid but could we just not be really petty and sack Manning before he goes? Just a tiny, small, vindictive move that I would get fully behind.”

"I hope you get relegated, Bristol Rovers finish above you and you all come down with the shits.”

"Bristol City are a very ordinary club that will forever be stuck in the Championship at best. No matter how much money they spend or who manages the club, they just don't seem to do anything in that league of note. Big crowds, nice ground but absolutely nothing else and I can't see how even Manning could turn it around if he went. One wrong move could easily sour is career if it doesn't work out and he wont want two sackings on his record before he's 40.

Here is City's finishing positions since returning to the second tier: 18th, 17th, 11th, 8th, 12th, 19th, 17th, 14th. They are currently 11th and whilst nicely poised, there's probably still a good 10 teams in that league guaranteed to finish above them no matter who is in the crows nest.”

"Hurry up and make the announcement so I can start throwing my poo at the walls and verbally abuse my fellow posters.”

"They have spent little time in the top flight. Barely more than us. It might be tempting for obvious reasons for Manning to try his hand in the Championship. However, they are not such a big club that it is a given he will go there over trying to get us up. If it was a Leeds or Ipswich etc, it would be different.”

"They're a bigger club than Bournemouth, Brentford or Luton......arguably Fulham too......an ambitious manager might well think they can achieve the same as that lot with Bristol City, if they get it right.”

"Bit disappointed the club aren't giving us live coverage on what's going on."

"In the absence of any concrete information, are there any brave forumites who fancy trawling for updates from Twitter? Feels like it's time for another update from an unverified account, who has no track record of any sort and fewer than 50 followers."

I meant I am not on Twitter.

    Me neither.

But the thing is you reposted that Tinnion said something on Twitter that may or may not be fact.

In any event- BT may believe that Manning ( if it is he) is an exciting prospect and I'd tend to agree from the research I've done from a layman's point of view.

NP ( and others) has built the foundations for a bright coach to work from so it could indeed be exciting. And what's the point of replacing NP with another in the NP mould?

  14. Just now, Ghost Rider said:

Did he actually say that? Where? Wasn’t it a rumour that BT said that?

No he didn't say that but someone said he did and everyone was only too happy to believe it.

Both BT& JLK stated that they believe that BCFC should be fighting at the top end of the table with the this squad but did not go as far as they "expected/demanded " promotion as has been falsely reported as fact on here.

JL did say that " Promotion is the aim or what's the point" but he didn't say this season specifically. Nige also said promotion was the aim. What else should they say ?
