  1. Everton's board of directors have been told to stay away from their Premier League game with Southampton due to a "real and credible threat to their safety and security", the club have said. Fans are understood to be planning a protest at Goodison Park in the wake of last week's embarrassing 4-1 home defeat to Brighton. The club said chairman Bill Kenwright, chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale, chief finance and strategy officer Grant Ingles and non-executive director Graeme Sharp will "reluctantly" stay away on the advice of security advisors.
  2. Going round in circles here! I’ve given a figure which I’ve said is guesswork and based it on figures from Sheffield Wednesday Trust. You disagree and given your figures, As stated not one of us knows for sure, and only when accounts are published would the true cost be confirmed. Let’s agree on your last statement and both hope we don’t up in league 1 and we’re both basing figures on guesswork rather than actuals in accounts as a league 1 club
  3. You asked me to quantify the figure and provided from Sheffield Wednesday Trust , a club recently relegated from the championship. The figures they quoted were £12 million so not a million miles from the amount I stated which was based on a posters valuation of Semenyo. I do agree with you about momentum and if successful on the pitch crowds will increase. I’m not sure who ‘Swiss Tony’ is by the way. Appreciate you don’t agree with what I’ve posted but I’ve given an explanation and a source to those figures. Ultimately neither you, I or anyone on this forum would know the true cost of relegation until the club publishes it’s accounts and in many ways is purely guess work on anyone’s behalf
  4. Ok so for the me the cost of relegation, we will see crowds reduce from .20k for home games both from a home support and away support. We will see some teams with decent away followings but on the whole a reduction in crowds will have a knock on effect to match day revenue. I’m sure pay on the day numbers would also reduce , and for a lower level of football you’d expect the cost of the match day ticket / season ticket to reduce from their current prices. Not sure on our players whether we’d have a clause in contracts to reduce salaries. In answer to your question I and many don’t know what the true cost of relegation would be . The Sheffield Wednesday Trust estimated the cost of relegation between £10 million and £12 million , so I’m basing my estimate on those plus as we know no guarantee of achieving promotion immediately either In the Championship Wednesday receive around £8m in broadcast income (before the Covid-19 rebate to broadcasters). That falls all the way down to around £2m in League One. On top of that attendances are also likely to fall, meaning a drop in match day revenue even before accounting for effects of the pandemic currently, in the immediate future and in the longer term. When were last relegated in 2010 average attendances dropped by more than 20%, from 23,000 to 18,000: When Sunderland went down in 2019 their attendances increased - but they also reduced tickets by around 15% - and their matchday income increased too, in part due to more home matches and two Wembley appearances in their first season in League 1. Sunderland’s first season down in League 1 is a poor proxy for Wednesday, though: Their attendances are significantly higher than ours and they had the comfort blanket of Parachute Payments to draw on in licking their wounds in that first season in League 1 in 2018/19. Football finance expert @SwissRamble on Twitter estimates revenue of £19m for Sunderland in the current season. Wednesday’s revenue isn’t likely to be that high in League 1, but instead around £14m***. We’d be allowed to spend around £10m (75% of revenue) of that under the SCMP financial regulations mentioned before. It’s worth noting that the 23-man skeleton squad shown above had wage costs of £12m, so they would be £2m too high.
  5. That’s the gamble , but right now Semenyo knows how we play, played upfront with Wells before. Big risk to now sell Semenyo and bring someone completely new into the team , club and possibly relocate , with weinmann and Conway injured would have to have an immediate impact
  6. The cost of relegation will be greater than £15million - currently our strike options are limited
  7. Simply can’t sell Semenyo in this window now.
  8. Milwall v Sheffield Utd 12:30 kick off on Saturday. Cardiff v reading the televised game on Friday night
  9. It’s an easy walk but probably a little longer than 20 mins - very tight to walk back to station. Although may be a quicker way if go through park. Anybody knot when tickets go on sale as not showing yet
  10. Both make good points about the importance of the next two games. Although I agree @Davefevsthat still a little early fit ‘must win’ games we need to be looking at four points from the two home games. Looking at our fixtures coming up ; Huddersfield (a) 28 Jan, Wigan (h) 15 Feb , Hull (h) 25 Feb, Cardiff (a) 4 March and Blackpool (h) 11 March. Six massive games in the next nine weeks where we really want to be unbeaten against these teams as a minimum ideally win them but pick up points in the other games, that’s why two home games this week are vital to give us some confidence going into Huddersfield and hopefully at least keep the gap at three points
  11. The comment on sky today that having a ‘full stop meeting ‘ was typical Johnson bluster
  12. To be fair it says more about our club than Ipswich. Ashton was allowed free rein to appear to do what he wanted, but ultimately the buck stops at the top. Ashton is unlikely to have signed the cheques but is likely to have requested the money spent. Every manager wants two or three more players , Johnson was very quick every transfer window to state it ,Ashton would no doubt go to the board that these players would see us over the line and the Lanswdowns would sign off the expenditure. The bulk of the blame is with our ownership , unlike Ipswich we asked no questions or challenges
  13. Should be banned for life when identified Anybody seen this: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastle-fan-dan-burn-shirt-28826700.am
  14. Expect Coventry away to also be on
  15. There is no acknowledgment from the Lansdown family , generally at Christmas time we hear from Steve. Nothing this year from either him or our chairman
  16. We’ve lacked a football man at the top of the club for too long , the club appointed one in Ashton and those at the top appear to have switched off and agreed to what he asked for , regardless of the consequences. Tins is a step forward and a welcome one but he will need support from a business operator , that appointment is now key
  17. FFP is a problem that we have to work around, but for me the question is who is responsible for putting us in this position, who approved the high wages / expenditure
  18. daored

    Who?

If City sack Pearson then Ainsworth is the most realistic target , a guy who can motivate players to achieve higher than their abilities and would work to a budget. Talk of Wilder is completely unrealistic
  19. The ironic thing is on this very podcast not so long ago - it was being stated that the player wasn’t performing and wasn’t championship standard and was held up as a bad purchase by Pearson - this week Pearson is wrong for not playing him
  20. I don’t disagree that he’s spent very little and in many ways is taking a gamble on players who’ve never played at this level before. I thought Atkinson was £2million
  21. daored

    Pearson

Agreed - I think we’re trying to play a 3-5-2 without the players. Personally I wouldn’t play Naismith as a CB in a two - possibly as a LB or midfielder in a two. My stance on that formation would be 4-3-1-2 O’Leary Tanner Vyner Atkinson Pring Williams Scott James Weinmann Conway Wells Naismith could rotate with James & Williams Sykes could play as the ‘10’ at times for Weinmann
  22. When it comes to recruitment we’ve got to consider how much we’ve actually spent and where buying from. Wilson, Klose, Naismith, James, King all free transfers. Tanner and Atkinson cost us about £2.5 million together , either played at this level before - Atkinson was playing non league football couple of seasons back, Wilson also highest level played at (personally would send him out to a league 1 club for second half of season for regular football and at a higher level played at). Pearson is shopping in the free transfer market and a spending money on untried players at lower levels. Should we be doing better , yes. Is Pearson the right man I’m not totally sure but I do agree with his comments if he goes the same problems persist
