Soooooo I meant to dip in and out of this over the season but with everything City related I forgot…
Anyone have any highlights so far this season? I see cup finals are now being played, any trophies for the bedroom trophy shelf?
Turns out the full sized goals weren’t the disaster my oldest thought they’d be. Downside is that they don’t seem to want to play any more - not sure how to handle it. It’s been a step up in a league that’s full of amazingly talented players, so was always going to be up against.
Amazing natural ability which would be a shame to waste, but short of forcing them I’m not sure what I can do?
Youngest has now finished the last 7 a side season they’ll play in. That can’t come soon enough as they’ve all outgrown those pitches.
One thing I would point out is that I’ve seen zero poor behaviour on the touchlines this season - is this an outlier?
It’s my son’s U16s team’s last season. They’ve only got a couple of games left and it’s strange to think that’s coming to an end with many of them having in the team for nearly 10 years. No particular highlights this season (they’ve lost many more than they’ve won) but some brilliant games. I’m hoping he’ll go on to join the U18s - at the moment he wants to but things can change.
Behaviour on the touchlines has been really good.

It’s difficult to feel optimistic about City at the moment. If we avoid defeat it’ll be a bonus. But hopefully the travelling fans will be rewarded with a decent performance and result. COYR

I don’t have any optimism with Manning at the helm. Our football is dull - slow and pedestrian with little intensity or aggression. The unity in the team and fans, with a sense of shared purpose, that was slowly cultivated by NP has been eroded. I don’t get the sense the players would run through brick walls for him and the fans have lost patience already.

For all that we were mostly poor today, how about Swansea? Go 1-0 down and then play exactly the same for the last 20 minutes. Definitely no plan B from them.
I agree. They seemed to lose interest as the game wore on.

Delighted with the three points. But what a dire game. First half was abysmal. Second half was better once Sykes and Robert’s came on.
We seemed to have the tactic of sitting off Swansea to deny them space in the middle and pick up loose passes from them. That got more successful as the game wore on, but it was like watching paint dry at times, with zero intensity from us for long periods.
Overall the performance felt very flat and the AG crowd was more disgruntled than I’ve seen for a long time.

City are absolutely woeful so far. The only entertaining thing that has happened so far was the calamitous Swansea corner just now.

Gutted to lose so late on, especially after being 2-1 up and the. The penalty save. But at least by the sounds of it we out in a much better performance.
We desperately need to start picking points up, though.

Definitely not. I never want us to lose. I’d particularly love three points tonight to allay those creeping fears of being pulled into a relegation battle.
-
I can’t see us getting anything out of tonight’s game. I hope I’m wrong.
Safe journey to City fans making the journey. I’ve been there a few times and it’s always a good away trip (despite City being terrible in the games I’ve seen there).

Wingers aside, one thing we’ve been desperately missing since Scott left is a player who can dribble with the ball and take it past opponents. Mehmeti maybe, but he is so inconsistent. We try to pass around teams instead (with our players very static, but that’s another story) and no-one goes on a run with the ball to draw the opposition and create space for others.

I’ll always renew as long as I can afford it and am able to get to games. But I fully understand why many fans are not sure. The football is so very dire and it’s difficult to be optimistic that things will improve with LM in charge and the way the club is being run.

Lower sides in the division are completely comfortable sitting in and defending against our slow, “progressive” football. Compile that with defensive errors every game at the other end and it’s a recipe for disaster.
Absolutely. Yesterday Cardiff (same as the QPR game) didn’t really have to work hard to beat us. They just pressed us into losing the ball, which we did frequently because we don’t have the quality or movement to retain possession, and waited for set piece opportunities. The outcome was so predictable.
-
The tipping point was reached for me today. I’ve always found it difficult to warm to him, and I’ve seen no real signs that he will improve us. Good performances like v Southampton are a blip. Our playing style is a mess. And after the dreadful QPR and Sheff Wed performances we were equally dreadful today when the least I was hoping for was some attritional determination. We were as weak as water.

An inexcusably poor performance yet again. Cardiff were very average but were in control of the game the whole time - we didn’t impose ourselves on them at all.
The only positive for me was that Conway looked bright when he came on.
-
I actually don’t like it when my son’s team play on Astro pitches. As @mattjb has said, the ball bounces too high and runs too fast. He’s also got injured the last two times he has played on them. Maybe it’s just that it’s low quality pitches.
Games on grass in my opinion are usually better (I absolutely love muddy pitches), my son thinks so too, although it is a pain when so many matches are called off.
-
Really hope we beat them tomorrow, but I’m dreading another insipid performance.

For me it’s just:
Cardiff
Swansea
Rotherham
Rushden & Diamonds
Oxford
Brentford
Chesterfield
Colchester

Glad that he’s back in training. With the seriousness of his injuries I’ve always doubted that we’ll see him play again, but fingers crossed he’ll be back to his best.
