  1. Didn't Nige say back in August that he didn't expect to do much, if any, business in January? I remember him saying he was happy with the squad he had for the season. Obviously managers often trot this out without really meaning it but I don't think Nige does.

There was talk from Gould about the need to bring plans forward but that was when we looked in danger of slipping into a relegation fight. Things have steadied so it would seem sensible to go back to Plan A.

  2. Last time I couldn't wait to get to a game was the SC promotion season. Knowing there was a good chance we would be better than the opposition and probably score a few goals was a big incentive to go.

So sadly I have concluded that I must be a bit of a glory hunter. Not quite sure how that can be after forty odd years when we have won next to nothing.

So to answer the original question, I don't really know but I think the main thing is having a side I think is likely to score a few goals and has some players that excite is the main thing. Both of which are missing atm.

According to Whoscored he averages considerably higher tackles per game than Bakinson, Williams and King, and more interceptions than Bakinson, Williams, King and James. So he's actually pretty decent in that regard.

OK @DaveF I can see you are a fan of his. I don't want to suggest he isn't any good. He's certainly had some good games and for his age has done pretty well. I get that there is more to football than worldie goals and defence-splitting passes. He has energy and effort no doubt. Jury is out on whether he has what it takes to command a significant fee for me though - at this point.

It's great winning tackles and intecepting passes but I'm not sure he does that well enough, without other aspects to his game, to attract a bigger club.

  4. I'm not sure Massengo is going to morph into the amazing midfielder some are predicting. He isn't quick, doesn't have a good shot in him. Not a great range of pass and as he never takes set pieces I assume that isn't a strength. I can't see the fuss myself.

I agree that he’s the only one of that type. But he’s in there to win aerial duels, not for his on the floor hold up play - we don’t play that way.

Do you think pumping long balls at Martin is how Nige actually wants to play? It is pretty boring and old fashioned. Is it just a short term tactic because he thinks the team can't play passing football through the midfield. I truly hope this is only a short term tactic designed to make the most of what we've currently got. If he intends this to be our long term style  I'd find that a bit depressing.

I think there’s a fair bit of revisionism when it comes to LJ.
I don’t remember him calling out players after almost every game. In fact, it hardly happened at all.
I recall Magnússon away at Preston, but that aside I don’t think there were too many more examples.

I think that may be a case of memory fade over time. He definitely did it with Taylor Moore, along the lines of not being willing to put his head in where it hurts.

My general impression was he only did it with the youngsters. Not sure if him keeping quiet over Tomlin was due to cleverness or only having the balls to have a dig at the kids who couldn't stand up to him.

I’d have more time for him if he actually got the players to try to play football instead of lumping it and passing it to the opposition at every opportunity, i had hoped that he would of provided more attacking intent other than discovering that our centre half has a long throw

What we are watching is really uninspiring football. When we lose as well as playing pi55 poor football then I really wonder why I bother watching.

Lansdown has been clear it's his club, he decides the strategy and we're just customers. As a customer I don't enjoy the product atm and am seriously thinking of not bothering to buy it any more this season.

I think the ref spotted that their player had a hold of Massengo's shirt dragging him down and also his hair.

    Nowhere near a penalty imo.

Ref got that one spot on.

I agree. I thought the sky pundits were very biased in this case and ignored the fact that Ostigard was also fouling HNM, calling it a blatant penalty.

  9. I enjoyed the win and most of all that we didn't concede in the last few minutes. However it could have been very different if Stoke had taken their chances. We did put in the effort but sat back on the lead yet again. I didn't think we would hold on but we just about sneaked it.

Maybe this will help the confidence levels which I feel have been a big part of our underperforming, especially at AG. We could play like that again and easily let in 3 if the opposition are a bit more clinical. So certainly still a very long way to go but maybe green shoots, especially with the young players.
