  1. The mobility is a big one for me. We have to be the slowest team in the league. The ability to control the ball I can excuse with how well they pressed but the lack of aggression was very disappointing.
  2. Don’t overreact? You said yourself could have been 4 or 5. This is at home mind you. That level of performance is unacceptable against any side in our division. They started 4 players with less than 20 championship games under their belt. Yes they are better. Yes not many expected points but we were embarrassed. We have played better against better championship sides in recent seasons. There is no overreaction. We were poor all over the park and the disappointment is that includes desire and toughness. This sets the bar for worst performance imo and if we have a few more like it, I’d start to worry. That said, I expect much better on Tuesday and anticipate it’ll be better. Just need to store this under can’t happen again.
  3. Yep he knew right away. I’d guess he out until after next international break at the least. Can’t catch a break with us can he?
  4. I don’t really care if just staying up is decent enough. That performance today, especially first half, was not even close to good enough. Doesn’t matter who we played that was embarrassing. 4 of their starters today have less championship experience than players like Bakinson and O’Leary. Probably irrelevant but I found it interesting. Of course hard to match their other 7. Didn’t expect a win today but did expect them to show some grit and toughness. Sadly can’t remember a tackle being put in. Second to every 50/50 ball. The things we need to be good at to be competitive was not there today and that is poor coming off an international break
  5. Odd view imo. He has played 7 premier league games in his career. He is a year and a half older than Tammy. They are both playing at a top level in the country they are in. However, Tammy has 89 premier league games under his belt already. Has already been part of the senior england set up. 17 appearances in European competitions. With a similar goal scoring rate but with nothing below championship level. Not saying Toney isn’t great. Not saying Tammy is better. Just saying they have had similar starts to their seasons and that Tammy has more experience at a higher level.
  6. We aren’t inconsistent though. We consistently keep teams within reach by not allowing many goals. We consistently create enough chances to score 2-3. It isn’t about stats. As someone who has been to 9 of the 11 league games I can tell you exactly how we will perform. That is consistency. You said we are distinctly average. Bentley isn’t average. Kalas and Atkinson aren’t average. Massengo, Williams and James aren’t average. I’d argue we are only average up front but combined with everywhere else, we are better than average so far. Distinctly average without our best player yesterday and without our starting LB and put in a performance like that. By your standards you expect us to be a top half premier league side. I just don’t get it
  7. Distinctly average and slightly shit. Sorry I thought we were in the top half of the table 2 points off playoffs. All this without winning at home. We aren’t always pretty but we picked up 3 points today in quite poor conditions with several key players missing. We had 16 shots with 6 on target and 10 corners. If anything we have grown from average to start the season to a formidable side just 11 games in. I think I know what you boys meant. Just didn’t agree with the wording. 11 games in we have been better than average is all and imo not slightly shit at all. Feel like this is a team growing into the season.
  8. Really good first half and tired second half. Understandable considering he has played probably 45 minutes all season. Be a real positive if he can find some form as he an upgrade over Pring as a wide attacking player.
  9. I think Fam is a better player than Martin but possibly not value for money. Idk what either of their wages are but guessing Fam was higher with his 5.2m fee. Factor in what Fam wanted to stay(rumours of 30k or more). Then Martin is a better option for the price. All that said, needed an upgrade on Fam and need an upgrade on Martin. Idk if we need a target man or a pacy player or a mix of both(probably not a goal scorer if you get both physical and quick). I just know we need different. I was a big advocate of Keinan Davis on loan. Still think I’d lean that way as it would allow us to play in a similar manner. Just that Davis can bully defenders better and run channels better than Martin. Not sure he’d score any less either. Thinking more a forward who creates opportunities for others rather than himself.
  10. I’d really like to see a more youthful and athletic side. It isn’t likely and in a 433 might need an addition or two in the attacking areas Bentley Tanner Kalas Atkinson Dasilva Williams Bakinson Massengo Semenyo Wells Weimann Basically the team that finished against QPR just with Williams instead of James. Doesn’t mean I don’t like players I have left out just think that could be our most exciting/highest ceiling side. In a perfect world I’d have a more complete striker than Wells and/or an upgrade on Weimann. Our best XI is probably for me 442 Bentley Tanner Kalas Atkinson Dasilva Semenyo James Massengo Pring Weimann Wells
  11. I am just not sure he is ever going to be that. It is like everyone wants him to have Massengo’s work rate and Matty James’ positioning to break up play. We don’t get perfect players at Bristol City very often or for very long. So it is about balancing players and their good and bad attributes. I think NP knows what he is getting from Bakinson. Which is offering that killer pass. That is why he hasn’t been asked to play without two other hard workers around him in two of James, Massengo or Williams. I think he needs to improve if he wants a good championship career or higher. It is early in his career though so we need to take the good with the bad. The bad will be highlighted to him I am sure and something he can be coached on. As you said, there were a few very poor performances last night but it is Bakinson who has the 3 page thread slating him for all his flaws.
  12. Think most the team was poor tonight tbf. Bakinson even with not a complete performance put in 3-4 passes that did or should have led to scoring chances. He needs to play to round his game out. He is in his early 20’s with less than the equivalent of a season of championship football under his belt. The good things he does possess are things that you can’t teach. The positioning and things like that can be worked on.
  13. Yep. Only young player not to be offered a new deal at end of last season and yet he is continually called upon to be the saviour. Just play Wells down the middle. Martin has been getting bullied lately(fatigue?) and has been resorting to running channels. Might as well play Wells then. The ball been sticking to Martin less and less. Weimann looks like he needs a break too. Big fan of both Conway and Bell but there are options we haven’t explored that are much better options for championship football.
  14. Starting games under Nigel Pearson yet we are still questioning his professionalism or his attitude? Not to mention we have picked up 4 tough points against two very good teams in Fulham and QPR with him starting. He has flaws. He won’t be a prolific defensive midfielder. He won’t cover the ground Massengo will. His biggest problem? Having Martin and Weimann as options to pass to. If not them a LB in Pring or Dasilva down the left. Usually no one on the right. I really don’t know how Bakinson can be getting this treatment as the only bloke who can get his head up and A) spot a pass and B) convert said pass. Should have been 1-0 up after Bakinson played Weimann in first half. Second half made himself an option for Pring and played a lovely first timed pass down the wing for O’Dowda who over hit the cross badly. A cynic would say ok he made a few good passes. I would say he is in the team for that exact reason. To make those key passes and be someone to take responsibility and actually get on the ball to get it forward.
  15. It almost felt tactical the way we let them overload our right. We tried to close down McCallum or whichever midfielder but were happy to let it cycle back to Barbet for a deeper cross where we had Atkinson, Baker and Kalas to head away. If it was it generally worked even though they hit the post once. They had a few more where they got their head to it but a big man in red was always there with them to make sure they didn’t make great contact.
  16. Do you lot watch the football or do you just see cross from right side and assume Tanner didn’t stop the cross? They had a man advantage on the side almost every time. CMs didn’t come across to help. If Tanner charges out to cut out crosses another man runs in behind to the byline. He wasn’t perfect but he put in a fine display against a good side. Nice to have someone who can contribute on both sides of the pitch. Should be retaining his place off his performance.
  17. What I mean is better than last year isn’t necessarily good enough to stay up. Swansea and Blackpool were good performances where we were unlucky not to win. Preston and Luton we were lucky to pick up a point in each. Perhaps it all evens out. Out of 23 league games at home, it is unlikely we have played a top 10 side come end of season in these 4. Come on mate. You know that isn’t what was meant. We aren’t likely to keep the pace of 46 points away from home. So the 12 point pace we currently have at home this season needs to pick up. Fulham and Bournemouth the next 2 at home. Not impossible to win but wouldn’t say we’ll be favourites. Some boos already ringing around the ground at FT. What is the reaction going to be if it gets to 16 games winless at AG? Home form is very important for the season.
  18. How long do we keep saying better than last year? We’d have lost that last year. Better than last year. Last year is not a marker you want to use for progress. I think the question about NP arises because for all the good he has done, he has what? 3-4 wins as city manager. It isn’t the recruitment that is the problem. It is the is he utilising the tools he has as well as he could?
  19. It is going to be a transition to league one if we don’t start winning home games. We have 2 goals and 3 points from 4 home games. All against current bottom half sides. No one has a devine right to win championship games but you do need to win some. We can’t rely on away form to keep us up
  20. I don’t think NP is awful. He did/does have a hell of a job on his hands. That said all he has done is get players fitter. Fair enough it needed to be done. Though it isn’t translating to much more success on the pitch. City seem intent on getting mediocre coaches from England though and NP is upper tier of mediocre. So no point in talking about getting rid. No better would come in.
  21. My positivity is waning. Most of the positivity has been about energy and getting a bunch of hopeful crosses in. I think we are mistaking being better than last season to being good. We are still very poor and these team selections are not working. It should be 2-0 minimum to Luton. Preston probably edged it. Swansea beat us 1-0. We have 1 goal in 7 halves at home. This isn’t good enough and countless hopeful crosses and long throws with the occasional weimann press is getting real boring real quick. More importantly ineffective. NP needs to get his head out because we’ll struggle long term again this season if he doesn’t.
  22. Think only one of those would have been left out and that is Baker. Was clear why Baker started against Cardiff but different ask today. I’d have had Dasilva in for Baker and Semenyo for King with Massengo central. Not wholesale changes but a couple tweaks for a different scenario. As it turned out thought King had a good game. Baker played his part as well. Just we had a bit more possession and generally comfortable possession so we could have used a bit more impetus from the start.
  23. Agree. Imo Pearson got it wrong today. Playing same team because they done well two weeks ago in a completely different type of match which was also away. Sure clean sheet and all that but you could feel it in the crowd that we haven’t won at home in months. Semenyo and Dasilva from start I’d have done but oh well. Was not a disaster but probably lucky with the point
