Surely they would have been spotted by now with the amount of planes that would have been out searching though?

You really hope that this is the case, but part of me thinks that things like that are being said more in hope than anything else.

I agree with what you are saying but hope is still a good thing. Think we are all aware the longer not found the odds of a happy ending dwindle but I still hope they can be found alive. ?

This story really has hit me very hard. Its heartbreaking and you have to wonder how his team mates at Nantes must feel if he has died, being the last few people he spent time with, and saying their goodbyes as he embarks upon a whole new journey.

    Awful.

Yep. My thoughts too. Hopeful there can still be a positive outcome. ?

Tend to agree- they seem to have been kicking the can down the road a bit.

The interesting thing about Derby- and it is a big unknown- is that while most clubs have amortisation straight line in the standard way, they seem to have players valued and sales or release depend on that- unique among football clubs. Could either bolster them or see them take a big hit this summer with all the out of contract players. Definitely unclear though, sounds like a boost on paper but then again...

Speaking of doing things differently, perhaps you will have an idea of how it works, but was thinking of Brentford.

They have scrapped their academy. Academies don’r count towards FFP do they? Pretty sure they do not but you probably know.

Anyway they now have a “B” team that travels across the country and Europe to play friendlies. Since this is not an academy, will this be added to their costs in terms of FFP? I know they say it is cheaper to run(2m academy 1m B team in a BBC article) but when FFP counts for so much is that not risky in your opinion?

Get you may not know but if you do not don’t think I will find an answer!

Do you mean independent of FFP or for FFP? Unclear.

Their squad is aging, they have sold a lot of good players and as you say mainly they are loanees in terms of their best. However those sales may have kept them from failing FFP- gambling on promotion this year?

Independent. They still have a couple saleable assets for sure but imo gambling on this season. Idk if they will fail FFP but they were lucky they could find loanees who had champ experience. They have a lot of massive wages probably coming to an end soon but they will need a rebuild in the near future if they do not get promoted.

This is the problem with the season finishing before the financial year.  Villa could easily argue / include the sale of Grealish for £30m in early summer in their projected accounts to bring them within FFP for example.

Derby are in big trouble before FFP imo. Their squad is old for the most part and their best players are loanees.

This camera action is making me seasick! If I take my glasses off it’s like I fell in a vat of lager and drunk my way out.

Game in action and will randomly switch to McClaren or random QPR player. Very odd and not great viewing. Assuming talking about BCTV it is useless on my mobile as it won’t go full screen if you flip it. Decent enough on my tablet though.

Again your comments amaze me because, I cannot think of another person who believes he is better out wide and not a starter long term really?, I cannot recall him being dropped much at all last season and I fully expect him to start at Bolton next week, that is what happened for most of last season, I don't see it changing this season.

Also playing him wide?, at least Eliasson (who has improved) and COD are some help defensively, Paterson is a liability.

Just mean when everyone is fit and not suspended think he will be a bench player. Eliasson, Watkins, Diedhiou, Adelakun, Weimann, Taylor, COD and Eisa all players that can take minutes from Pato going forward.

Can’t argue with @BobBobSuperBob about Pato being a player that acts like he is working hard. Don’t think he is lazy but not the natural workrate of others we have which is why I have suggested he is perhaps a better option against the likes of Bolton and Rotherham who will defend deeper.

The central wide thing we just won’t agree on. I know he had good spells centrally last season but think a large part of that was playing with Bobby Reid who covered so much ground. Think it made it easier for Pato not being the main creative threat.  Not sure he can get to those levels paired with others in this side.

Well I can think of quite a few worse performances and boy there is a lot to choose from.

Bit moot because I don’t think he is a starter long term anyway but not sure I have ever seen him so annonymous. I have seen plenty where he gets on the ball and gives it away but not one where he had so few touches. For Pato to be effective he needs to be on the ball and today, playing centrally, barely touched it.

    Thought Weimann deserves some praise

Thankless task , especially second half with s*** service and little support

Never shirked a challenge despite getting a few npbattering challenges and worked hard and showed some good decision making and quality in moments

Can’t argue that. Even did a job last 15 going out wide. Good debut and thought all the debutants were solid enough

I'm sorry mate I really cannot let that go.

The woeful form of Paterson in the final 22 games of last season was blamed by his glee club as being because he is a 'number 10' and not and never will be a wide player which where he played those 22 games, today he played 'number 10' and you claim that he is better as a wide option?????

Yes think he finds more space roaming from the left where it is harder to mark him. Of course he could roam from a central position but rarely did and barely touched the ball as a consequence. Even in his poor form he was getting on the ball but just didn’t look as sharp after a combination of burnout and virus. We saw him play centrally today and probably the worst I have seen him. Like he had no idea where to be

  11. I am usually more positive but it was a dull match. Some positives and some negatives. Just felt like that will be our season. Not great but not awful and we will finish midtable. I am ok with that. Our biggest hope to bettering that is Diedhiou. If comes back into it fit and firing then we could be dangerous but don’t see enough options to be a promotion side. Not enough goals or creativity but a well organised side who can play up to opposition.

Everyone and his dog was claiming his poor form at the end of last season was because he wasn’t being played centrally Joe

I think in theory he’s better drifting in that 10 role but he didn’t prove so today

He had a chance to stake a claim  today but didn’t do himself too many favours

Talented , but The reality is , he’s inconsistent and goes missing in games and for periods of the season as he’s done thro his carer -

He may miss out on a starting place when everyone’s fit

I expect him to drop to the bench and that is a good option off the bench. I like him as a player but he is just one of those types who wilo be up and down.

Because the squad isn’t full of quality unlike most of the other top 6 team,

we don’t have game changers yet

Possibly. Probably. Is that something we can rely on though? Will we ever have a squad to compete with teams with bigger budgets? Again I like the guy I just worry about the bad form that seems to follow him. Last year maybe excusable but we aren’t bad enough to be bottom 4-5 of form table over a quarter of the season. He also did this with a Barnsley team good enough to be promoted. Signs are there that something goes wrong in his locker rooms

    Really?

He turned the worst form in our history around into promotion contending form last season.

Our worst ever form after playoff form. If he can get the form to what we have seen in stretches why can’t he sustain it? Why can’t he pick it up after 3-4 games? The teams above us have all had a stretch of poor form but picked up after 3-4. For me, there is something there for LJ to sustain relegation type form in each of the last 3 seasons over a 10 or more stretch of matches.

Begins and ends with the one who picks the team and tactics, not the first time is it?

There is blame to be had for LJ. Probably the most as he just can’t turn teams around once they go bad. It isn’t all on him but his inability to motivate a down team is worrying. I wouldn’t suggest him leaving but those who think this could run into next season can’t be disregarded if we don’t pick up some form.

I think there’s no doubt that playing Fammy has changed our approach play - his goals return since coming back from injury is great but we were definitely playing better football with just Bobby up front. We really need to work out how to play more effectively with 2 up front.

Paterson has been way less effective since he returned from that illness but I think it’s also because he has less of a free role since Fammy coming back in.

You could argue we started our downward trend almost a month before Fammy came back in. Then the first couple games were off the bench. So by the time he was back starting we would have had a bad 6-7 game stretch starting with Wolves at AG. Possibly fair assessment about Pato though as has been said he hasn’t been the same since his virus. Basically I do not think there is any one reason we have been poor. There have been numerous reasons that all come up around the same time.

Should be a very straightforward decision for LJ for Monday if Baker comes through today's match.

Flint straight back in for Bailey Wright.

I am being swayed on Wright. Think he is a bit too unpredictable. There are games where he looks an elite defender. Then he has days where he can’t pick a pass and make boneheaded fouls. Not a great trait for a CB is unpredictability. If looking to be a top team I don’t think he can be a starter. Baffling he was made captain though. Korey and Marlon my first two choices there.

How does someone like Djeidhou, who's built like a brick shithouse, seem to get shoved off the ball so easily?

I think it is mental. When he absolutely has to hold it up or a team will counter on us, usually around our halfway line, he usually does brilliantly and picks a pass. Get 25-30 yards in their half it seems he doesn’t have quite the same fight and urgency. Though for a big man he is basically useless on long balls up to him in the air. Sometimes will win a flick if he has a step he can take.

We see his strengths as a finisher though. That is why he cost 5m+. Doesn’t carve out as many chances as a Reid or Kodjia but is usually clinical. His goals per minute are up with the best and he usually finds the target. Many usually find the small stuff to pick out with him but he is good at most things with exceptional finishing. It’ll be tough to keep him his entire contract imo. Hell if he was never injured, I expect we’d already be hearing rumours
