For any one who hasn’t watched it, I’d recommend watching One Night In Turin. I was only 8 at the time of Italia 90, but it was the tournament that really made me fall in love with football.
I genuinely thought Gazza and Gary Lineker were the best players in the world, (In Gazza’s case he probably was) and that Rnglsnd would always be challenging for the big prizes. Suffice to say Euro 92, and failing to qualify for USA 94 quickly dispelled that myth.
Edit, here it is
Great innit.
Great memories. My first World Cup of being able to drink legally and going to watch games in pubs / bars. Watched the Cameroon game at the Imperial Ground, and had a kick about (drunken kick about) out on the grass into the early hours.

I guess the dozen or so posters will have to confirm or deny that themselves.
I want SL to move on, but I don’t hate him. I dislike the way he runs Bristol City, but I don’t hate him.
Even at the point, where if I’d been in charge, I’d have sacked Manning, I didn’t hate him.
Not that I’ve expressed my opinion on this particular thread.
But suggesting “hate” from other posters is OTT.

I would imagine that they “splice” because the commentary might contain reference to the other game(s)???

You are simply wrong.
"The main difference, which will be the focus of this paper, is that ‘most’ tends to be used to convey proportions higher than ‘more than half’. More specifically, while ‘more than half’ is usually used for proportions right above 50%, ‘most’ is used for proportions that are significantly higher than 50%."

This term is the new “top-end”

Just pick one goalie and the appropriate 10 outfield players that work best together for the given game.
Easy!

An anti-embarrassment sort of clause. Is the guy you talk to describing it done through equity or is it just a straight bit of conditional deferred consideration?
That kinda talk would go over my head, just simple chat that you could offer £x and give him a bonus of £y when you get promoted.

Until we see this seasons accounts we won’t know how much they were paid initially. They certainly weren’t a £250m valued business this season.
I very much suspect they will get some more for promotion, but also will need to do more than go straight back down to get the full amount. I’m only guessing but I reckon it would require at least a two season stay in the PL to get the full amount and value up to that £250m.
Sorry to quote myself…but this is why when I speak to someone who totally understands sporting investment, he’s suggested that SL needs to make it affordable, but also with benefits for SL should City as a Championship club, get promoted. A deal in a similar vain to Ipswich’s could see SL get the club off of his hands but with a nice dividend should we go up.

Perhaps I will. I think it is mainly the asking price but that doesn't explain why Ipswich up to £100m or so for a 40% stake was it..then again that is out of kilter.
Birmingham are another weird one, I suppose they see potential given it is the 2nd city but the ROI in either of these is tricky to see a path to it. Ipswich caught the crest of a wave but up to £100m for 40%...hmm.

We were generally tighter playing with 4 at the back. To be successful you either need a very good centre back pairing and/or a brilliant screening defensive midfielder. Our best performances defensively were with Vyner and Dickie as centre backs and James just in front. With James gone, I am not sure who should take that role, and as Atkinson’s return is way off, I would keep those 2 (Vyner and Dickie) and play Roberts or Pring on the left. The issue is what to do down the right as Tanner offers very little going forward by comparison to the options on the left.
That “screen” is one of the things I’m really looking forward to seeing how Manning solves. Although he plays 2 CMs every game, I’ve never seen them as screens per se. But with James in particular you get years of experience and therefore anticipation. That is gone.

Thought Oxford were very good tactically over the 3 playoff games. Excellent blocking of passing lanes. Not hugely adventurous with the ball, but against Peterborough and Bolton (two heavy passing sides) it suited them very nicely indeed.
Nice to have a close away game too.

Funny that I see Kane and Walsh’s name in the same thread, because I worry that Kane has the same inability to get around the pitch…at Championship level.

Think the Arsenal coach will get it.
By the way it’s Rosenior, both he & his Dad played for us, so you’d think you could spell his surname correctly.
One story I read was Wagner was going - win or lose, and they were just waiting for their man to become available.
Would imagine Manning’s name being so high is the combo of someone putting a bet on, and he’s from Norwich.

We totally outplayed them at Carrow Road a month ago (even by our low standards) so somebody there will have made a note.
Manager Recruitment Models:
Bristol City - we go after managers we trounced in a league cup or preseason game
Norwich City - we go after managers…

To my knowledge Manning has never said who he supports, but he did used to have a season ticket at Carrow Rd when he was younger.
If he is a Norwich fan then I guess that could be tempting.
Immaterial though as I'm sure they'll have higher priorities.
Didn’t he imply it was a PL team….bloody glory hunter
