  1. Many many thanks to Barrs Court Red and Rob k for replies.

Really helpful.  Daughter booked tickets.  All done

Now feeling guilty because 73 years ago, when I was 5, I first became obsessed with City.  What a roller coaster ride that has been.  Hope in 70 odd years time he will look back at half a century of top flight and European football.  Well I can dream on his behalf can’t I ?

  2. Hi all.  I am seeking advice for my daughter.  Her family live in Sussex and are coming to Ashton Gate for their 5 year old to see his first game.

She says City’s booking site is confusing.  It says Upper Lansdown is for families but it has different prices.

so question is.  Is the Upper Lansdown for families?  Can you see from that position ?  Why different prices, are we right in assuming cheaper seats have restricted views?

Any help much appreciated.  My grandson represents the fifth generation of City supporters, from 19th to 21st century.

  3. That was one of our best teams ever.  Real quality across the pitch.  Would be happy to have that quality today.  Solid defence, defensive and creative midfield, and a frontline with goal scoring potential everywhere you look.A d look at the wider squad :  Derrick, Crowe, Merrick, Garland.

We have to ask how have we landed up today with a performance like that at the weekend

  4. At some point the club will have to spend and take the risk, if we are ever going to make it in the current climate.

To minimise that risk we need a good core side (which I don’t think the current one is) with some ex Prem players (with something left in their legs) some good homegrown talent, and, dare I say it, an experienced manager or, at least, a successful one. An owner prepared to take the risk by major January signings, to build on those made the previous summer.  A international scouting infrastructure which at present we seem to lack.

Above all we need a goal scorer, if possible a two man striking team scoring regularly.

Not much to ask if we had owners like Wrexham have.  It really isn’t that difficult given money and belief.

Sam Bell massively reminds me of Wes Burns. He will go on to play regularly at this level but not for a while

And thus if we are serious about promotion he must go at the optimum time for us to cash in.  And for the same reason we should keep the precious gems, like Scott, who come along so seldom - that is why we need new investors.

Seem to recall Alan Hinton of Derby Co being the first (or the first at pro level) to wear white boots in the early 70s and being on MotD for it.

Before that, of course, boots came in one regulation colour - tan! My old man used to wear his new boots and stand in the brook on Hartcliffe Way for half an hour before the kick-off to soften them.

Real boots which prevented many of the foot injuries of today

This is why it is my belief that we have 5 CFs:

Conway, Wells, Weimann, Bell and Cornick.

I think you could pretty much perm any 2 of those 5, although the natural 2 out of 3 to perm are Wells, Conway and Cornick.

The big question with going two-up-top is without the ball, and who presses the Full-Backs.  If you played a “ten”, then each CF could split the CB and FB, but need to be mindful that you don’t just end up with a different take on 3 up-top.

Five but none of which score on anything like a regular basis.  Move them all on, unless Manning thinks he can improve Conway

  8. Would Williams have dared to do that under Nige?  I very much doubt it.

Indiscipline like that is a very poor sign

To prove he isn’t football’s equivalent of the Prime Minister, Manning needs to fine Williams and drop him until he can get his attitude right.  If he doesn’t know how, just phone down to Somerset
