The idiom does not seem appropriate

For every bad one there's a good one as well

Some people are afraid of change

BCFC was here before Lansdown and will be here a long time after him

I don't think the fact the current ownership of Bristol City are from the local area is valued  enough by those who live or originate from that same area, it used to be the norm now sadly it's very rare for an English football club. As I previously posted he won't be appreciated until he's gone many on this forum it seems won't care who takes over the club or how they've  acquired their fortune or how the club is run probably accept a blue home shirt if it meant Premier league football but how the club will be will make it superficial and meaningless.

Plenty of good foreign owners still exist.

We are no further forward on the pitch (where it matters) compared to when he arrived!

Keep sniveling up to him, it's what he likes

Given the natutre of your previous posts you're never going to  recognise and appreciate what Steve Lansdown has done for Bristol City. Perhaps  you will get your wish soon there must be a foreign businessman with a questionable background(to say the least ) out there or maybe  an Arab guy from one of those lovely Middle Eastern utopias waiting in the wings to take over the club, Why does the   idiom be careful what you wish seem appropriate?.

Was this the last time he spoke to the fans

Time for the bloke to sale up and move on

To be replaced by some dodgy foreign owner no doubt, what could possibly go wrong? I suspect  Steve Lansdown won't be appreciated until he's gone  although there are some like myself who have the good sense to highly value his contribution.to the club and hope it contiues.

I think 60 yearsxof contributions is pretty good dont you ?

I hardly doubt that would finance a stadium rebuild and state of the art training facilities not to mention the many millions spent on transfer fees and  wages which can all be directly attributed to Steve Lansdown's investment.Without the aforementioned Mr Lansdown you and a few other's on this forum wouldn't be  constantly  moaning and whinging  about a Championship club It's debarable whether there would be a club at all.

Very encouraged last night but when you think we now have a cup game on Tuesday and an opportunity to rest some players it presses home just how thin our squad is. Within the midfield 3, we only really have King (who I was hoping would be used more in a coaching capacity this season) and TGW (who Pearson sees as a RB and came in in that position last night). Naismith can play there but I wouldn’t like to risk playing him again in there so soon after a recurring injury - plus if he is our cover at CB, he can’t cover both positions.

We are not far off but desperately need another 2/3 arrivals through the spine of the pitch, otherwise I just can’t see us managing to compete in over a long season.

Pearson talks about this wage cap, but that is self-imposed. Surely with the 25m + Semenyo sale we have room to make more additions. I’ve always supported Lansdown and am very appreciative of everything he’s done, but if we don’t make signings next week then his time is up.

Can we stop with this false accusation  that the squad is thin the first team squad has 25 players( average number for a Championship side) backed up by a number of players from one of the best and most productive academies in the country. The club has endured great misfortune regarding injuries but it would not be sustainable to have around 45 first team players many being paid and never actually playing just to provide cover for any potential absentees.

Agree with you on Bell. Maybe needs a loan out to a L1 side. Just needs his decision making to catch up with his actual speed and he'd be an asset. He is also a little on the powderpuff side as well at times.

On Williams - he's a player we need. James and Naismith have a history of being crocked for a month or two at a time and is a squad player for me.

You don't send a player out on loan that  spent the whole of last season in the first team squad playing a good number of games and scoring a few  goals, and started every game this season it would be absolutely soul destroying for him and would not benefit him or the club in anyway whatsoever. If he's deemed not good enough finding a buyer and selling him on would be the preferred approach.

May as well give up to be honest. What a joke if this is true. The current squad will not finish in the top half, if anything I struggle to see three worse sides with our lack of goal threat. Big worry, starting to envy Birmingham and their new era.

Yes given your negative outlook you should give up there must be something in life that makes you happy because it sure isn't following Bristol City.

Hopefully that will be closer to a bluff than fact. Somewhere between 2-4 needed still IMO, accepting that Murphy is somewhat of a development player.

Gardner-Hickman and Murphy are welcome but we very much need to reduce the absentees and keep then well reduced moving forward.

Including the 4 already signed earlier that's 6 this transfer window you can't just keep on signing players unless you think there should be 70 players in the 1st team squad.

Also just to put it on record, this 84th minute Joe Bryan winner will be very painful after alex leaving this week.

An 84th minute winner would indeed be painful however, as I don't really care once a player has left the club Joe Bryan scoring it wouldn't mean anything more than their other players. And just for the record  I'm a lot more optimistic than a lot of people on this forum and believe City have better players than at least 75% of the teams in the Championship and will win today.

Agree with all of this other than having a stronger squad. Quantity doesn’t equal quality. With the exception of Dickie and Knight on Saturday it was the same starting 11 that struggled last season. Knight instead of Scott isn’t an improvement, Dickie over Atkinson remains to be seen but I dint think for one second we are stronger. It’s a myth!

Knight will score far more goals and get more assists than Alex Scott did so that is an improvement; he doesn't at this time effect the game enough consistently and the stats of 1 goal and 2 or 3 assists clearly suggest that £25 million is ourstanding business.

Cornick is an interesting one, his Luton record suggests there is a player there but his best position is harder to pin-point.

Thought v Middlesbrough over Easter he was very decent but one swallow etc even if it was against one of the top sides in the division.

What is a bit of a puzzle for me is, the final third of last season really showed a progression in intent and playing style..this was a bit of a step back.

It's one game the first game of the season,If they win at Millwall next Saturday will that be a step forward. you cannot make a judgement over 1 or 2 games certainly at the start unless of course you're a Bristol City fan.

Cornick is what you get when you sell , Semenyo, can’t wait to see who the club come up with to replace Scott.

With both Semenyo and Scott, we would have been a much better side than what we saw yesterday, a side that could challenge the top end of this league.

There were plenty of performances with both Semenyo and Scott in the team that were less than brilliant and those two  did absolutely nothing and the usual people on here slated the team and manager and suggested "it's gonna be a long hard seaon", perhaps one day you guys won't overreact  so much on one performance certainly not the first game of the season but that's probably a forlorn hope. QPR and Port Vale should forfeit the rest of their league fixtures because they're relegated already according to the OTIB forum or maybe there's not a team in the history of football who have  been outstanding in evey game they've played and most of us know that they'll be some bad performances this season like every other.

I don’t think you just go out and buy a player who can dictate the play in the same way that Scott can.

I think really  he doesn't  affect games consistently  enough probably due to his age for his departure  to be lamented that much as I said if City can find someone( maybe it will be Jason Knight) who scores goals from midfield something the team has lacked for a long time we'll not miss him very much, and £ 25 million is exceptional business for the club.

    I can’t agree.

We are going to miss his technical ability a lot more than what he offers us defensively.  I am shocked you think so.

For all his undoubted technical ability the stats of 1 league goal and a handful of assists is hardly impressive and irreplaceable if City get someone in midfield who scores goals the current Alex Scott not the potential Alex Scott won't be missed too much.

Post-Brexit American firms see the UK as a sitting duck. No longer economically linked to Europe we are easy pray for the yanks, and are already effectively becoming a vassal state of the U S of A.

The Premier League, and Championship, is now almost full of clubs owned by either American companies or Middle Eastern States.

If rumours are to be believed then it is American investment firms interested in buying us and the gas.

There's a race on for who controls global football: America or the Middle East. Or maybe they'll end up dividing it up between them.

Interesting times, one would assume it won't be long before England no longer holds claim to the "best league in the world".

Absolutely nothing to do with Brexit Americans & others of course were buying clubs in England long before i.e the Glazers, It's ubiquitous  globalisation which has ****ed up every country in the Western world. I deliberately refer to them as   clubs in England rather than English clubs as the Premier league which is claimed to be  the best league in the world has long been an International league based in England with clubs which are more like corporations and brands with a tenuous at best(only SOME of the fans) connection to England.Ideally for me the Lansdown's keep the club for decades to come alas I know that's not going to happen and it's only a matter of time before I walk away and become  primarily a Weston-Super-Mare fan and City will gradually lose it's appeal and importance to me as it will inevitably be  a soulless money making entity more concerned with tv rights   and merchandise  & chasing overseas supporters  like  so many others which are in foreign ownership. The phrase be careful what you wish for  is very apt for City fans it may not be all you hoped it would be.

Italia 90 is such an enigma. It was equally beautiful as it was boring. It was nostalgic and also forgetful at the same time. It's the most important World Cup of the modern era.. It really kick started Football being back in popular culture in UK after 2 decades of being related to violence.

-Back pass rule came in force after this Competition in 1992.
-3 Points for a win introduced in World Cups after 1990.
-English sides allowed to re enter European Competition due to good behaviour after the Tournament.
-English Division 1 modernised into the 'Premier League'. European Cup modernised into 'Champions League' just two years later. You cannot say these haven't been major global successes.

Football became glamorous again after this World Cup to wider audiences and you cannot say that the changes made since that World Cup have not been a success. It is easily the most important World Cup in modern History.

Global successes yes but English  football's top division evolved into an International league based in England which is soulless anything global is largely corporate and  meaningless. For instance competing in European competitions with foreign management and largely foreign players will never be the same as with British players as a fan you're seeing nothing different than you see week in week out it was a real different experience to see foreign teams come to play. When you watch a world cup and the majority of the Brazil squad play in England it's not going to be as exciting is it. Italia 90 did indeed start the  changes in football that ensued, from a commercial financial infrastructural point of view it's been unqualified success however we've lost truly domestic football at the top level many younger supporters of course know no different but some of us can sometimes view it a little wistfully.

Yes just not tonight it would seem. I'm not saying the sky is falling in but that was a poor performance and there was no plan B tonight. we are down to bare bones and it shows.

Yes bare bones and we're 13th in the table 13 pts and a much better goal diference from the bottom 3 with potentially a lot of money to improve the squad  next season so the extreme negativity and constant criticism and moaning on this forum is quite ridiculous and as I previouly said I really don't know why some(in fact it's quite a lot) actually bother following City If it made me so miserable I certainly wouldn't.

That was a crap as any performance I can remember. Where was the midfield ? Why did we keep lumping it forward when it was clear we weren't going to win a header. Didn't even realize King was still playing in the 2nd half. So many mis placed passes from everyone.

Does watching City ever bring you any joy ? pack it in and do something else because it sure isn't making you happy  and that goes for many of the other miserable moaning f*****s on here.
