  1. They are really filling in the gaps with housing. The 4 fields around Yate FC are being sold off and 118+ houses going in(The fields with brown test trenches in them). On top of The Addlings to the right of the club, that are already up an potentially reaching up to The Cod. They are also clearing the land opposite the club entrance in Lodge Road hopefully for a new road junction.

I think you’re right about the divorce rate. I renember something about that too. I think it was down to blokes having to work away while the housewife’s got bored so played away

Moved out Yate (well the arse end of Nibley) 4 years ago. Went to The Lamb with a mate and met a few of the locals, was told Yate was the swingers capital of the south west!

To be fair, I think most companies do in all walks of life. To admit things aren’t right is to admit weakness and a lot of people don’t like to do that. You can appoint people on the basis to sort things out, but I think a far more common scenario is that employees join companies without a full handle on the inner workings.

Again, working on the assumption LM did the due dilligence I don’t think that would have uncovered the depth of feeling. You’re then left with really two scenarios from Jon and Brian’s part:

    - They didn’t understand the depth of feeling and are absolute boneheads (Tecknikally)

    - They did understand the depth of feeling but thought LM would get some quick results to bail them out, not realising LM would impose a new style on the team immediately which made that less likely (In which case they didn’t do their research and again, have the collective brain power of a team of Joey Barton’s)

Thanks, I agree with you, no company(club) would completely open themselves to potential employees. But did wonder what sort of due diligence would be done by LM? Apologies, not expecting you to know! The football world seems quite small for the professionals in the game. I don't think he would have given NP a call and ask about the club, but a bit of a check on the city website would have uncovered NP's feelings about what was happening in the weeks before he was sacked, delving back a bit further would have shown his thoughts when he took over here and an hour on social media would have given the fans perception and feelings. Perhaps it's all down to individual egos?

Your last part sums it up for me.

Just checked and every club in the Championship has a CEO apart from:

Norwich Board & Executive - Norwich City (canaries.co.uk) - but they have an actual proper board and sporting director.

Stoke Stoke City FC - Directory - they also have an actual proper board and sporting director.

Sheff Weds - Can't find any details, COO Liam Dooley left in October, but run by a madman.

Rotherham United - only have a COO and no DoF. An anomaly.

So basically us and bottom-of-the-table Rotherham are the division's outliers in terms of internal structure. Brilliant.

I used to work with the Head of Football Operations at Rotherham. A really decent guy and good people manager. Everyone that knows him was surprised at the move, as he has spent nearly all his career in the justice and custodial sector! Still trying to work out how running a prison with over 1100 inmates equates to this new role. He is passionate about football, but is a Hull City supporter..........

It’s an often made point recently but I am firmly of the mind that Liam is switched on enough to do due diligence and would have some idea of what he was walking into. But I’m increasingly of the mind that he couldn’t have anticipated the depth of it. We’re now six weeks from Niges sacking and it feels as raw as ever on here. Any coach would be stunned by that. Question is, who could have told him without making him say “Nah mate, not for me”

Dont get me wrong I think Liam isn’t helping the scenario by the decisions he’s making currently - but he’s the only one that can turn this around and reduce the heat on Jon and Steve (edit - and Brian. Trying to forget he exists), and if he is “rabbit in headlights” that helps not one person.

This is a good point, but worries me even more about what is going on behind the scenes! Is it likely the board hide a lot of the issues from potential new employees? I seem to remember NP with all his experience saying he didn't realise how bad things were here after his arrival.

And the south stand (well those that sing in there anyway!)

For the first time in a while, it seemed most of the South Stand joined in with "Nigel Pearson's Cider Army". NP even mentioned it post match.

  7. Not sure if there has been a change within Ashton Gate, but during the last match of the season, had a chat with one of the outlets on the concourse and he said that they might not be back this season as the new management team had been around to discuss things and he would 'basically, end up working for nothing' with the new fees?

They are back this season, but I wonder if this is why other outlets have changed?

Yate would probably a good place for them to pitch up the circus .  It’s got a station, it’s expanding massively, is relatively easy to get to from their ever diminishing heartlands, there’s provision for a stadium in the South Glos local plan and it’s miles away from Bristol.

I live near Yate and don’t want them around here. Like @bcfc01 I would become a nimby.

Better fire the muck spreader up just in case.

I've always wondered this, but there must be enough of a market to make them worth producing.

In general it must be tourists or people that just don't get British football culture. I could imagine my mother-in-law - who hasn't got a clue about football - buying one from that stall for her grandson (my son) in a well-meaning but deeply misguided gesture.

As a Yate resident, I can safely say that they are a minority here as well.

Been living near Yate for a couple of years, have only ever seen 3 with their colours on. All old boys. 1 in a rent boys bobble hat and 2 in shirts that have all sorts of food down the front......

@Silvio Dante sums it up about following the family connection. When I refer to them as old boys, I am turning 60 this year and they are older than me (or had a much bigger paper round). No youths anywhere. There are regularly dozens of city who go down the gate from the surrounding area.

Went for a place south of the ground and ring road, after people saying roads are closed in the vacinity of the ground for an hour post match. Sure you'll be fine.

Saw about the roads being closed earlier in the thread, nearly booked in Morrisons car park opposite, but we would have been stuck there for an hour!

We are about a 1km walk away, hopefully meeting up with a couple of brum mates on the way.

  12. Still go for something from 'Feed the Goat' makes a Saturday. £9.50 for a curry with rice and peas isn't bad.

At one of the concerts back in the summer, sure it went up to £11? with £7 a pint for Red Stripe! Anyone know how much the rates are to rent an outlet at Ashton Gate?

I have had pies at the Gate but not often as I'm not a fan of what's on offerand they fall apart in your hand. If I'm going to have a pie I'd sooner pick up a Clark's on Ashton Road. It's half the price and stays together.

If I'm going to splurge on food at the Gate then for me it's the Goat Curry. Not cheap but it's tasty and different from the normal football fayre.

With you here! Nan's curry with rice and peas, washed down with a pint of Red Stripe.

Noticed last season at full time, there were shedloads of pies and pasties left over and being sold off for £1. With the choices around the ground, there doesn't seem to be a great demand for the pies on the concourse. Only tried them once, when there was a 'meal deal' on. Not rushing to have one again!

Perhaps some customer feedback on what food and drink we want? I would love to see Thatchers Dry back on tap.?

Just had a thought-get the club calendar and photograph each month and print it out postcard size or to fit the gap, no room for notes but highlight pen red for home games green for away and yellow for England (it could last for years).
    ps

Is my blue Peter badge in the post?

I was thinking, when I next forget someone’s birthday, or am just too lazy to get them a present, so they end up with a gift card. Cover the box with sticky back plastic, put the gift card in place and a little note, like we got from JL and give them that.

At least it looks like I have made an effort…:whistle2:

  15. Ended up going myself last night, even managed to arrange parking on Ashton Drive, so thanks for the info earlier in the thread.

Not his biggest fan, but he had some cracking hits in the 70’s and most of his early stuff is part of the soundtrack of me growing up! If it really is his farewell tour, glad I saw it and I thought he put on a fantastic performance, even playing one of my favourites, “Have mercy on the criminal”.
