Interesting appointment, several media outlets saying it’s all but done. No real playing experience although highly rated as a coach by Gerrard.

Dont think he’s managed/head coached at anything over U19, and no experience in any role at this level.

Strikes me as a very risky one - Villa have been ok rather than great since SG went in and there is an argument Rangers have improved since he left vis Europa League. That doesn’t smack to me of SGs coaching team being someone you’d immediately take a punt on. I think Gerrards opinion of Beale is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the appointment - may work out great but I’m not sitting here thinking it’s a coup.

Think Gerrard has always been the man manager and Beale is the “brains” between them. A lot of Rangers/Villa fans seem to think it will be a big loss but similarly you’d expect Gerrard to have some knowledge about tactics and have the contacts to replace him in the coaching staff

Would love to cheer on Ukraine, although some will insist we should cheer for the British team...?

Anyway, is there any way of watching it on real TV?

Yeah really want Ukraine to get through, because of the recent months they’ve had and also would be hilarious seeing neither Scotland and Wales qualify for the World Cup again.

It’s also on Sky Sports Football

A bit salty on th eLuton forum ? - referring to OTIB:

It’s a wankathon over there about Kal. A journeyman for most of his career. 18 months under NJ and his team and has one decent season in probably 12 as a pro and they think they’ve signed Rio Ferdinand. The team that took Bakinson and ruined him and I noticed O’Dowda who they signed ahead of us has now left on a free.
8th is their best ever season in the championship under the playoff system. A nothing club that’s won **** all and never will.

  4. Can’t believe I’m seeing Hibs fans turning their nose up at him. Can’t see them getting much better if I’m honest. Anyone else think he could take Moore/Vyner/O’Dowda with him?

Hopefully that might be good news re Nathan Baker, in that he may be available for the first team again next season. Good luck to Callum. Interesting that around  two thirds of our team are u 24. A question for you out their why are they still talking to Will Buse is contract is up in June. I have not seen him play is he any good.

Baker is under contract no matter what so he wouldn’t be on there. If he decides to cancel his contract then it will be announced separately I’d imagine

Any idea when it is? Palmer, O Dowda etc...

Won’t be Palmer as he’s under contract unless it’s been terminated.

Think we’ll release Britton and O’Dowda

Be in talks with/retain Klose and Cundy

Unsure on King, clearly a good player off the pitch and when he’s played I don’t think he’s been bad. Not sure he’ll get much games next season though

I’ve never understood why people have used Britton as a stick to beat NP with. The fact is, Pearson has given first team chances this season to Scott, Benarous, Towler, Conway, Bell, Idehen who are all younger or a similar age, so he’s not scared to throw youth in. He’s seen Louis day in, day out, and has concluded he’s not good enough - also not pulled up trees at conference level.

He can clearly score goals, but the conclusion of the management seems to be he’s not scoring them at this level, and as NP sees him day in, day out, I’m happy to back his judgement here.

This. Wish him all the very best but my word did our fans have a strange obsession with him. Had people calling for him to start over Chris Martin but the only thing he has going for him is a good U23 record which Bell and Conway have had and they’re 3 years younger. Also have Palmer-Houlden and Henry coming through who are supposed to be good aswell

Seen this on Facebook and then obviously on Twitter, hilarious. Don’t think he said anything out of line mind but there is a part clearly muted.

    He's crap that's why.

Tim Shires the previous man on the tannoy was got rid of was far better and a big City fan. Exactly the same with Adam Baker.

I’m personally not a fan, don’t think he has the connection with the City fans, would want him to stick to the rugby and have Toby Osbourne or a City fan on announcements.

Tim Shires and Adam Baker had completely different roles to him though

  10. Think we’ll keep him but purely because we’ll get rid of a lot of centre backs. Kalas has a year left - last chance to cash in, Nige doesn’t seem to fancy Vyner/Moore, Cundy also has a contract expiring and no one knows whether Baker will stay on or retire. Atkinson looking like the only centre back that will stay for certain

Edit: For clarity I would opt to keep both Klose and Cundy

  11. Could’ve understood it if they lost to Everton. They beat them and despite losing to Norwich they still have a favourable run of games compared to Everton’s. As someone said, I’d happily take him at the Gate but his playing days here and the fact he’ll likely have better offers, I’d say it’s very unlikely

He isn't very quick or mobile which is a big problem in the modern game. Cov fans raved about him, so not sure what has happened?

He doesn't appear to have a particularly good range of passing either, so unfortunately i have to agree with the OP.

Perhaps to do with legs around him at Coventry? Thought Hamer was superb in both games we played against them this season and their side is full of energy

Todays performance and the meltdown since both on here and on twitter have reminded me of a point Joe Royle made on his recent conversation with podcast.

‘The most important point of a football managers job isn’t coaching its recruitment’ and we’re seeing the results of that now.

Frankly we could have Guardiola in charge and the players we have would still make poor decisions in and out of possession and until we get better players or more players will a different attitude we’re going remain being we are where we are

We can blame Ashton all we want it’s not going to change anything the man’s left the building. In the meantime we’re asking Pearson to pull a rabbit out of the hat and then getting frustrated when it doesn’t always come off.

It’s bizarre that we’re having the sort of season everyone expected but are then getting frustrated and calling for Pearsons head when that’s how it turns out. We’ve shown glimpses of looking gals decent which in itself is an improvement on last season

Think it’s been better this season than it was last two summers. Atkinson looks a good player and done well for a first season in the league, James for free is a good signing although been under par recently (thought he wasn’t too bad yesterday though), King contributed more than I thought and Tanner will be a great player for the future.

Giving Simpson a new deal was a horrific decision in hindsight though

Weird is absolutely the word for it.

Listened to him on RB. He talks about 'them' and 'the club' as if he's not part of it.

He's been here over a year - pretty much the average tenure of a Championship manager. You cant go on blaming everyone else for ever.

Who are the 'they' he's so critical of? The Chairman. Brian Tannin and the U23 staff. That's the implication - as well as the players. Not going to do much for morale.

    All very odd

If he’s so critical about the U23 staff and Tinnion then why would he give the players a chance and bring Alex Ball in as first team coach to replace Downing and Simpson. He clearly isn’t critical of them ffs

I'm not even saying violent, just even sticking out an arm to block and a hand of their shoulder, you'll get that 1 in 1000 (or however much) parent who'll want to take it as far as possible despite them being in the wrong, so the stewards are probably looking out for themselves as much as anything. I'd agree more needs to be done though, whether that's extra stewards who go on the pitch at the end to effectively form a ring around the players to stop people getting to players.

Think this is a very sensible shout, and hopefully shouldn’t cause controversy

  16. 3 minutes ago, Lrrr said:

Probably because they can get away with force on adults, so much as touch a kid to stop them and you know some parents would be after the steward on charges regardless of the fact the kid shouldn’t be on the pitch

Oh don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect them to be violent on them but surely more of an effort has got to be made to stop it?

  17. 1 hour ago, Silvio Dante said:

And again, what kind of a knob must you be to think that after we’ve had a gut punch of a last minute equaliser a pitch invasion is any way appropriate.

Start banning them (parents of the kids) FFS

Agree, but also why are the stewards allowing it to happen? If an adult ran on to the pitch asking for a players shirt I’d be rugby tackled within seconds. Absolutely ridiculous

Pleased for him because in truth he was pretty poor at Barnsley.

Think we are going to use the last 10 games to have a proper look before deciding whether he gets a new deal, the same goes for Klose.

Thing is if we do award both of them new contracts then we have no room for any other CBs unless we can shift players under contract like Moore, Vyner or even Kalas.

Think Vyner and Moore are off in the summer, Pearson clearly doesn’t want them, looks like Baker won’t stick around either. At the moment we could do a lot worse than extending both contracts

Remember he has already said there is a conspiracy by referees against them to add to all the other conspirators.

I saw the second half and the penalty they were given was very soft. Otherwise I don't recall any other penalty claims.

Very interesting he says that when we’ve had just the one after being denied so many stonewall penalties. Don’t even think Swansea have had a penalty this season
