  1. Presumably in reverse order. Between 1962-1970 Bobby Charlton was widely regarded across the globe as the greatest midfielder in the world and a gentleman. Rooney was a wunderkind and great scorer but generally regarded as low on IQ. Gascoigne had moments of brilliance, bordering on genius, but was otherwise a bigoted ****.
  2. When Bellingham moved to Real Madrid I wondered how they might play him and who might convert the ammunition he could supply wiyn Benzema gone. I needn't have worried as he's been on fire and is their top scorer with 5. If he stays fit he could be the difference in wrestling tge La Liga title from Barcelona, although their wunderkind of Pedri and Gavi might have other ideas. Whatever, he's brought his Madrid form into the England team. Superb.
  3. I don't have such a downer on Maguire as some do on here but why bring him on in a friendly when there's the opportunity to give Tomori game time.
  4. This is a much better performance so far from England. Playing much quicker than against Ukraine and reaping the rewards.

  6. I don't believe the Gas have intent towards a new stadium. If they did they should have made a huge play a few years back for the land adjacent to Gypsy Patch Lane and the A38 where the Village hotel and gym, plus a number of car showrooms now stand. Easy access to the motorway, a local rail station and on a bus route would have made it ideal. They could even have used Stoker's as their pub.
  7. On the form guide that goes down as a major shock An excellent win to restore confidence but we can't get carried away. Argentina were poor making lots of handling errors and conceding too many penalties, especially in the scrum where England dominated, allowing us to kick our way to victory. Our defence was superb, particularly with only 14 men for all but 3 minutes, only conceding a late try. However, we saw little of England's attacking game, never really looking like crossing the Pumas line. We will need to show this if we are to advance udeep into the competition.
  8. I didn't think we could win this but the Pumas are rattled with George Firds two brilliant drop goals. I'd love us to win if only to see Michael Cheika throw his toys out of the cot. He was a pain in the ass and a real moaning minnie when he coached Australia. Every decision against his sides are treated as if the whole world is, against him.
  9. What's this 50/22 mularkey? Have we switched to Rugby League?
  10. I think Curry is a little unlucky but it's the modern way. It wouldn't have been a, Red card at the last world cup.
  11. I'll take a point but England were to slow in passing the ball. Will need to do much better if England are to beat the Scots. They are on a roll and are not to be underestimated.
  12. Didn't think I'd be saying this but I think it will be a genuine shock if England beat the Pumas tonight.
  13. What is the commentator wittering on about. It was clearly no more than a yellow card for Will Jordan. The last thing Rugby needs is for the review team to show the inconsistency of VAR.
  14. Have to say I thought the young choir for the national anthems were excellent.
  15. With the retirement of some of the best international referees in recent years he is the right man for this game. He's not one to be swayed by players or crowd.
  16. So LJ is to be named Fleetwood manager. Don't like to say I told you so but I knew he'd be back in management soon. Might have been second choice but apparently again impressed on interview. As I said earlier in this thread he might not be able to walk the walk but he can definitely talk the talk.
  17. Hard to argue with that in my lifetime too. Whether Jon Shaw is a better keeper than Ray Cashley is open to debate. Collier was certainly better than the honest hardworking David Rodgers.
  18. I don't mind provided it's upbeat and not Robin Gibb's 'Saved by the Bell'.
  19. County fans were not pleased. We got a load of verbal abuse walking back to the car. Not that I gave a stuff.
  20. I'm still undecided as to where I place Max in our list of keepers in the 21st century. He's a solid enough keeper for the most part but he's never likely to excite you with awesome saves (for the cameras) like (always got a mistake in him) Bentley sometimes did, or Basso did frequently, once singlehandedly earning us a point at Leicester. He's not as good on one on ones as Fielding but is a better kicker, if again not the best. He is good on crosses, something which many of our keepers have been poor at, with perhaps only Maenpaa (the one we should have done more to have kept) and Heaton consistently better. At the moment for his all round game I'm edging towards him being on a par with David James (during his period with us) and Dan Bentley, ahead of Steve Phillips, Richard O'Donnell and Frank Fielding but behind Adriano Basso, Tom Heaton and Niki Maenpaa.
  21. Actually most clubs don't have a song, not unique to them anyway. Standards like The Red Red, Robin, Goodnight Irene, Blue Moon, You'll Never Walk Alone etc are all American songs or show tunes whereas Delilah for example is a song made famous by Tom Jones. Stockport County is one example of a side who've adapted a song (the controversial political song The Sash to The Scarf my Father wore). Norwich City (On the Ball City) and Chelsea (Blue is the Colour) might be said to have a song of their own. The closest we have is One for the Bristol City, which I prefer to Drink up thee Zider but it has too many words and verses for many so often gets a weak airing. Perhaps we need a newly penned tune.
  22. Tinnion has said how he sees a City strike force of Bell and Conway, both decent finishers. Perhaps we will get to see it again later this season, provided Bell doesn't do his hamstring on Conway's return.
  23. Anyone can beat anybody never more clear than today's results. We win at Swansea despite the best efforts of Oliver Langford. Southampton get dicked by Sunderland, Hull win at Leicester, Rotherham beat Norwich, QPR win at Boro, Preston win at Stoke, Huddersfield win at WBA and Plymouth beat Blackburn. Thankfully Baadiff kept it sane and squandered a 2-0 lead at Ipswich to lose 3-2. What a day!
