There was a certain LJ who had serious backing, could talk the talk, but not walk the walk. Made no difference was given too much money and time, can you not yet see we are about to go down the same road, next window/summer break /time to bed in signings etc, etc.

The proven exp manager JL sacked was not given serious backing, yet had us primed to do so in this next window fools at the top could not see that so here we are about to enter another LJ couple of seasons of talk and promises but nothing else.

JL  will not see the light or admit he made a mistake so round and round we will go, going no-where.

Of course i can see the warning signs......but there's not much we can do about it as the powers that be don't give a shit what we think. Also, i believe Manning has a lot more substance than LJ ever has & ever will have. I have been calling for the Lansdown's to leave this club for a number of years, despite people screaming "careful what you wish for". But there needs to be some hope for the summer otherwise what's the bloody point?

  2. I think a major issue is that the players were coached and set up to play a certain way, particularly over last season and this pre-season (counter attacking, fast paced), to now have to have all of that ripped up & play a completely different style (possesion based, keep the ball, pass pass pass) which unfortunately some just aren’t up to that standard of play in this division, especially the likes of Williams and our wide players (barring Sykes).

Whilst i am pretty confident we won’t be relegated or end up in a scrap (fingers crossed!) it certainly won’t be a final 6 months of challenging for top half. Manning really needs some serious backing in the summer if he is going to succeed & transfer his methods over to this division.

France in the same side of the draw as us.  Possible semi final clash.

Im always a bit confused on how the route works these days, especially as 2 (i think?) of the best 3rd place sides go through. If we want to win it then we were always likely to meet France at some stage & we are due a win over them at some point!

Never know, they may have a mare like last time and get knocked out in the second round, but the fact that they don’t seem to have many bad eggs in their dressing room these days makes that scenario less likely this time.

So realistically, quarters we could face Germany, Spain or Italy, and if we don’t face one in the quarters then we naturally will in the semis.

I really think if we can avoid Spain/someone else knocks them out, we win the whole thing.

Think you are giving Spain a bit too much credit there! No Gavi, a mediocre defence and Morata up top. I personally don’t think they are anywhere close to our level (currently). France is the main worry to stop us winning, but even then i fancy our chances as long as we have Kane and Bellingham fit.

  5. The whole "Gary Johnson wasn't wanted" seems to be people re-writing history for their own arguments, or people who are simply too young to remember him being appointed - he was a very highly rated manager when we appointed him. Sure, discontent grew a few months after he took over during the 9 match losing streak, but i don't remember people being disappointed when he first arrived.....particularly as anyone was better than Tinnion back then!

  6. The more i think about it, the more i feel that we could do a hell of a lot worse. We have heard the line of "young, up & coming, attacking" coach before with LJ & Holden (even as far back as McInnes), but this guy seems to have more substance that the previous, particularly with working with CFG (as mentioned, they don't just employ people without their merits).

Still think it would have made more sense to of done this in the coming summer & the board really do need to back him as i don't think we have the quality of players to play his brand of football without struggling - at the moment we are a fast counter attacking team, so we certainly need further investment in the central midfield positions to play his way.

Someone I spoke to yesterday had questioned Brian Tinnion about the new manager and all he would say was that you will be excited by the new appointment.

I’d actually rate it if he appointed himself after saying something like that.

Signed a new 4 year deal in May. Can’t see Coventry sacking him & paying that off. He’s so far in credit with them it’s unreal as well, going to take more than this to sack him

He literally dragged them from league 2 to within a penalty of the prem whilst winning a trophy, as you say it is going to take a hell of a lot for him to get the chop. Even if they finish 21st,he is still in credit!

I remember when Steve Coppell bottled it, everyone when overboard on him, I didn't the missing the pre match friendly in favour of picking his son up from airport was for me the sign he was gonna walk, and said so, he did.

I was of course slated on here.

To blindly follow the pack is never a good thing.

The whole thing around Coppell was odd from the start, i think everyone could see it but nobody wanted to really believe it. The fact that it wasn’t even a massive shock (at least for me) when he went said it all. That Millwall match was so bizarre.

You seem to have a dislike for him, just wondering what you know about him that would make a decision to be ‘mental’.

Fella, i think you are getting yourself confused here, maybe you are reading somebody else’s comments & getting confused with me - i have made 2 posts on this thread, read them back & if you still feel that way, then unfortunately i can’t help you. Neither one makes it sound like i have a personal dislike for him. I don’t know much about him apart from the fact that less than a year ago he was sacked at MK Dons for being joint bottom of League 1.

Do i think sacking Pearson for this bloke (if it happens) is mental? Yes, absolutely, especially as the Lansdowns have made clear that promotion is the expectation.

I assume you probably wanted Pearson sacked?

What is about Manning’s style of play and his coaching methods that you hate so much? Must be pretty clued up.

Imo, I still think sacking Pearson was ridiculous and totally unneeded at this point but I’d sooner give someone like Manning a go over Frank Lampard.

What are you talking about????? Where the hell have i said i hate him! Such an odd take.

  12. It certainly won't be Lampard (thankfully) but i do agree that at least it would be a more interesting appointment than some that have been suggested!

I think Lampard is so far up himself, judging by the way he acts around previous jobs (seems to like to take credit for Chelsea's champions league win, despite not managing during the knock-out stages), that he probably thinks he has a high chance at getting the England job after the Euro's, so wouldn't expect to see him in a job until at least the summer.

  13. Sadly would think Luke Williams will be the one, how uninspiring. No manager worth their salt would take the job just to be Brian Tinnion's mouthpiece. His record is hardly anything to warrant this job, but they are the same clowns who hired LJ & Holden without any credentials deserving of it.

Does anyone else get the impression they're leaning towards Nathan Jones as isn't that the way he had Luton playing, fast, high press etc, etc?

It just sounded like Luton to me.

I just dont see Nathan Jones being a yes man - he’s horrible, would make Crayon Boy cry in almost every meeting!

He's had 4 jobs in the championship. Done okay, but not got promoted. Nothing massively impressive. Whats the point of sacking a far better manager for him?

I prefer this route. Why cant we find the next Eddie Howe?

I fully agree with you regarding why sack Pearson to appoint Rowett, it’s madness! But judging by the owners past decisions, we could do worse.

Regarding finding the next Eddie Howe, there will be one out there, but we are not in league 2 struggling the way Bournemouth were when they took the chance. There aren’t many young managers out there that could come in to this club & work under the current parameters & succeed - in fact, in my opinion, we would be much more likely stairing at relegation.

The Lansdowns previous appointments of “young, up & coming” have been the following: Brian Tinnion, Keith Millen, Derek McInnes, Lee Johnson & Dean Holden - they don’t exactly have an eye for young talent!

  16. 5 minutes ago, Riaz said:

I wouldnt mind a young talented upcoming manager.

If its proven failures such as Rowett - i'll be pissed

I dont understand the Rowett “proven failure” argument. The only club he failed at was Stoke.

Would take him over any of the Luke Williams types, which lets be honest, is likely to be the market we are looking at.

Sounds like Tinnion fancies himself as a Backseat Manager.

Maybe he really is that thick and assumes people have either forgotten how bad he was first time around, or he holds himself respnsible for the likes of Semenyo, Bell, Scott and Conway so feels he “deserves” another crack….what a complete absolute shambles
