A very odd thing to write on a forum I reckon. If we all went on threads that we weren’t bothered about to tell people then it would be a weird forum!

    It’s a Bristol City forum.

I couldn’t give a continental about Chelski, due to their awful fans and their corrupt former owners.

1 recognised midfielder - Massengo Is far to light at this level.

Will need to score at least 2 again to take 3 points - team does look attacking enough.

Why Williams, Pring and Wilson not playing I just don’t get.

Scott looks one attacking player to many.

Nige sees them in training so his call but for me 3 better players are sat on the bench and we look open to being hit on the break.

How we set up will be key.

Teams look better to play on the break so will be very imprtant we don’t lose the ball in midfield.

Better to have 1 recognised midfielder than none. We only have five available.

IMHO the performance issues had been there for quite a while. Even as far back as LJ's last few months, I think the underlying numbers had us looking like a bottom 3 side. Bar the 4/5 game purple patch at the start of the 2020/21 season, I think it's reasonable to say we'd been playing at a near-relegation standard for almost 12 months prior to Pearson's appointment.

I agree that it got worse as the 2020/21 season went on though - the first few months under Holden weren't as bad as the last few. I also agree Holden was dealt a dreadful hand, but he was probably a bit out of his depth. That's not his fault of course - he was offered a job, accepted it, and did his best.

The point on injuries is an interesting one IMO. There's certainly an element of bad luck there, but I also feel we brought it on ourselves a bit. IIRC, we didn't conduct a normal pre-season as COVID had pushed the previous season back and shortened the summer break. By comparison, I believe Brentford did conduct a normal pre-season that year and suffered far fewer injuries than us as the season went on. Similarly, the injury to Mawson was damaging, but how unlucky was it? If you're taking Mawson on loan then you know you're accepting a high risk of injury. IMO the decisions of the manager/club over the summer of 2020 did contribute to our injury crisis, it wasn't all down to misfortune.

To be fair, performance issues go back way way in time - all the way back to 1894...if we look at the all time English league table, we're 21st (most of our time is in the third and fourth tier). If we look at the all time top 2 divisions table we're 47th. You could argue that we're actually punching way above our weight from a historical perspective. And for reference my best days watching City have always been in the third tier, when we've been competitive and pushing for the top 2.

There are pros and cons to Pearson. I think there's a level of tactical belligerence. Perhaps because he knows he doesn't have players available who can do what he wants week in and out. Or perhaps he's just a stubborn old git. Or maybe he knows more than we do about what players are capable of in what positions.

One thing I do know, is that we quite literally have no idea of the sh1tshow that he inherited behind the scenes. By my reckoning we still don't have a scouting department. We have no money for transfers. And as other posters have said, a few players make up 70% of the wage bill.

I also know that the culture of the club needs serious surgery. This can't happen over night. My firm belief, is that we've had 35 years of accepting mediocrity. You'll never win anything with a culture like that. And that my friends, coupled with the lord of mediocrity right at the very top of the club, is why we're a below average championship club.

  4. What people don’t quite understand, that miracles are very rare in football.

What Pearson, Gould and Tinnion are doing behind the scenes is transformational for this football club. It will take time. It needs to become ingrained and become the culture of the club.

Whether we like it or not, we’ve had 20 years of mismanagement by the lord god our saviour Steve Lansdown. He has literally no clue how to run a football club. None. He’s chopped and changed several times, with no clear idea about how to WIN.

    ✅We still have no identity.

    ✅We still have no money.

✅We still have a squad of bit part, half decent Championship players.

✅We still have an eye watering wage bill.

I’ve been back in England for four years. Been to the gate about five or six times.

I don’t think the players have a winning mentality. So many freeloaders. It’s been like this since the early 90s.

And that is what Pearson is trying to change. The culture is rotten. And reeks of complacency. This progress will be slow. And then super fast, I’m just curious when the tipping point will come?

Will it be this season, or post the next grand exodus this summer, or after Pearson goes?

I’m guessing 12 goals, 6 assists last season, plus another goal yesterday & one kicked off the line that was going in?

Scapegoating Martin is hilarious, we were top six scorers last season & bottom three in terms of goals conceded, so it is pretty obvious that our problems are up front?

Plus with Semenyo already absent, this is totally the right time to do without 2/3 of the most effective part of the side, isn’t it?

    Exactly this.

Chris Martin is the most intelligent player at the club. He may not be quick, but he puts in a shift and pulls defenders all over the place. And he scores. And he assists.

I think people forget we’re Bristol and not Manchester City.

We don’t have a pot to piss in.

Nige still hasn’t got that DM he said we need. My sense is that Scott will need to be sold to free up £20 million to spend on 2 championship quality players. Else we will struggle.

  7. First half was dismal. They all run round with their heads down. It’s almost like Scott doesn’t exist. He puts himself into space and the lad just runs into a blue player and loses the ball.

  8. I be like, literally nobody cares.

it's June. There's cricket on (and England are actually good) and UEFA rams this absolute shite tournament down our necks. As if we don't get enough football. What a complete joke.

Sustainability may make this normal. Don't Exeter do that?

    Which promotion shirt?

 #sustainability and football, what a joke.

You could keep the same shirt for ten years and still not even close to be offsetting the environmental impacts of flying from London to Manchester for matches every week.

My thoughts are, we get cut to to ribbons in midfield by good teams.  523 works against the poorer teams in the league, but we need at least 3 if not 4 in against the good teams.  That means a flat back 4 which means we need an out and out RB and a physically stronger LB than JD.

Presuming both Cundy and Klose sign and we keep Kalas I believe we’re ok at CB.

Midfield:  Assumimg HNM goes, we need at least 2, if not 3 new signings, all Championship proven.

Up front with WSM, Wells and Conway/ Bell as back up we should be okay for another year.

Who is this Weston-super-mare? I’m so confused?

“They’ve been lucky to stay up so many times” - really? In the last 16 premier league seasons they’ve finished:

    4th, 11th, 6th, 5th, 5th, 8th, 7th, 7th, 6th, 5th, 11th, 11th, 7th, 8th, 8th, 12th, 10th ... those are the finishing positions of a solid, established premier league club ...
