  1. I do love a good manager bashing thread.

Who actually, in their right mind would come to BCFC.

We’re such a tin pot operation. Lands down is loaded, but has no idea how to run a football club and won’t admit it.

All that money, all those years. All pissed down the drain.

Many of the Dutch players back then were coached ‘total football’ as young lads and eventually developing into to be very versatile - I wonder what happened to that model of coaching..

When I lived in Cape Town, Ajax (Cape Town) used to talk total football, that was 2002-2017.

My view is that being a goal scorer is more natural, it’s instinct, gut feel, precise and immediate.

Whereas being a talented defender is much more nuanced and skilful. The best defenders hardly make a tackle, and they’re never on their arses sliding tackling all over the show. They read the game, position themselves and stand up.

  3. I still find it really, absolutely mucking afazing that we’ve bought a load of shop brand putters and drivers with absolutely no pings in the bag at all. And no irons.

And it’s left us with a £38 million pound hole.

    so we will literally either:

    1) lose a load of players and need to replace them; or

    2) not have any funds to buy anyone

And Mr Steve Lansdown founded a multibillion pound investment company?

did he forget how to do maths?

  4. It's all got a bit heated on here hasn't it ?

    Here's my perspective.

Luton are better in every way than us. The have a balanced squad, who play to a system, are well drilled, and play as a team.

We have, a bit part team of talented individuals, who are inconsistent and prone to individual errors.

@Davefevs, you have a stat or two I am sure. I'd love to know how many points we have lost due to individual errors, and also how many points we could have lost on xGoals from individual errors. For example, HNM back pass against Middlesborough at home, should clearly have been a goal, but a magical save from Bents.

Bottom line is the players don't have the mentality and they're not a cohesive unit. Refer to the point above and the number of late goals we've given away.

We also talk about progress. Losing 3-2 away at a team of premier league players, with a toe in the door is an improvement on losing 2-0 at home and being comprehensively outplayed?

  5. Not winning at home for a million years.

Giving away goals in injury time.

    Sterling away form.

    Terrible away form.

Multiple individual errors and poor decision making.

Why can’t we eradicate the bad and multiply the good?

The season has had some stop start moments with Pearson’s health. The board stood by him then, there’ll be a chance to clear some more players out - Palmer, Wells & O’Dowda will def be off & hopefully bring in some savvy replacements. I think the Lansdown’s will be delighted to stay in the Championship, remember the chat when it was looking a bit brown pants time from Gould saying their Summer targets may need to be brought forward in Jan… Results improved & we are safe so will be interesting to see who these targets are & that will probably gauge the expectation of next Season & probably the opinion of fans as we know he’s working with what he’s got & see what the team looks like on the first game of next season, could be a big overhaul.

I’d love to know who is going to buy Wells and Palmer. COD is deffo off.

  7. A 2-2 draw at home against a premier league parachute payment side.

    In isolation a good result.

And at the same time disappointing.

If the players cannot see out a win, why are they playing. What are they doing? It comes back to leadership again.

They don’t have the balls, the backbone, the nous, the know how, the brains, the leadership, the communication, the shithousery, the skills, the wisdom or the capability. To close out games.

Tis an interesting topic  not sure  I buy the S'oD style excuses re NP being rubbish though. It's like a repeat to excuse failures and by that I mean utterly failing

We're crap, have been for a while. As I've detailed else where

Manager cant/, won't change that with players he has, and seems wont even try.

Since Cardiff, we've won 2 in 11 i think and were lucky to win vs Blackburn.

We've conceded plenty of goals, this is more than just a bad day at the office, this is sacking form.

Fans can't keep excusing the horrendous forever. NP needs to change it up or elses he is a gonner.

He keeps changing the personnel in the side. With the same outcome.

so what must he change up?

we have no other players. We have no money. We have no DoF and no head of recruitment.

NP is literally running the club. Single handedly. And you wonder why we’re struggling?

  9. This is one of the most informative OTIB threads ever.

I’ve said this a million times. Football is a very simple game. All you need to do, is score more goals than your opponent.

It becomes complex, when you have players who cannot implement instructions. And you concede silly goals through poor organisation and individual mistakes. We’re top of the league on all three.

If you take our squad, lovely bunch of lads. But where are the leaders, the organisers, the communicators. The ones who can carry out the instructions. I don’t see them. Those Barnsley goals shine a light on it. Total and complete shambles. Where are the leaders?

I’ve changed my mind about the players not being good enough. They have the talent. They don’t have the application as a collective. Take them individually into other championship teams and they will dissolve into that system and be good.

We need 6 seasoned championship players in the summer. I just don’t see where they’re coming from? RB, CB, CB, DCM, ACM, CF. 50 million..

We’ll be 16-20 position again next year if we don’t get them. And that is hoping that teams are worse than us or have points deductions.

That’s all very loyal, but your last paragraph is the interesting one.  When I look at what Steve Cooper has done at Forest it becomes only too clear that there are managers out there that can have a transformative effect on a club.  Of course we can’t know whether another manager might have done better, but it is hard to believe that any other manager would have done much worse.  What we saw last night is a team that appeared in the space of a few days to have forgotten the basics, and that is very worrying indeed.  Pearson has had over a year now, and yet the state of play on the field remains much the same: inconsistent, frequently error-riddled and at times downright embarrassing.  I think it’s absolutely fair that people should question where we’re going.  Is Pearson the right man to take us forward?  I really, really don’t know.

    I love this Forest comparison.

the players there are much better than our squad. Who, of our players makes it into that Forest team?

Nope, brought in 3 has been, injury prone . ex Leicester mates of his instead. Chewing up the limited budget we did have.

On the plus side was one them as the super power of invisibility.

    Who else was available?

and who would come here after that debacle of last season?

and given our prior scattergun recruitment approach?

  12. Pearson just shoulder some part of the blame, ITO selection, tactics and formation.

But, the players aren’t mentally strong enough as a collective. We’ve seen it for 5 years now, since we famously bottled it in 2017/18.

We have no leaders on the pitch.

We gift goals to the opposition.

    We can’t defend a lead.

We literally fall to pieces at critical points in the game.

In my opinion supported by the above facts, we have several championship quality players but not a championship quality team.

And football is a team game.

and we have naff all money to fix it.

We still have no backbone, and teams know we capitulate.

We need at least 6 players in the off season. LB, RB, 2*CB, DCM, Attacker. All first team ready. All proven champ quality. Approx value 50m. Which ain’t gonna happen.

3 years is the project timeline. We’re 1 year in.  I expect consolidation in 2022/3.

    Top 8 in 2023/4.

  13. I can’t believe that people think Abramovic is some sort of saint. I would venture as far as to say that virtually ALL Russians who are mutual-billionaires with money since Putin came to power, needed London to do their laundry for them.

Yes, I'm very happy to give him credit for playing the youngsters, what I was getting at, is he is very lucky to have the quality of young players available to him. It's very unusual to have a talented group coming through at the same time.

Is it though? There's a plan in the academy, by all accounts the next "batch" of youngsters are also great. We've created a pipeline of hungry, talented young players. This is not by some freak accident. It is our intention.

It's a big hit from me. I went to my first game since the LJ era (Middlesbro'), what entertainment - it was brilliant.

Somebody is going to get a hiding before the end of the season. When everything clicks.
