I posted on a thread in the ‘General’ forum how the Bristolian, ex Liverpool centre back had passed away.

Isn’t it funny how people’s memories work.

For me, Larry Lloyd was the ex Bristol Rovers player who signed for Bob Shankly’s Liverpool.

Nevertheless, I am sure most people probably remember him as the Nottingham Forest centre back, who won the European Cup.

Was he just a little bit before your time following Liverpool?

Not weird. I always think of the Gas and Liverpool when thinking of Larry Lloyd. Actually forgot he played for Forest.

Little known fact. His brother was a Bristol copper.

  2. Apart from Zak Vyner who would contemplate wearing a shirt bearing someone else's middle name.

I get kids wanting a Messi or Ronaldo shirt but would they be so keen if only had their middle names on it ?

Don’t get me wrong - Manning is less “traditionally” confrontational (rigid) than  Nige. And I don’t doubt they hoped they’d get someone malleable. But he isn’t that - he’s wedded to his process. And in a lot of ways that’s admirable. But they misjudged what they were getting with him - I agree they wanted something different that they could control, but all evidence says Liam isn’t that.

And I respect your right to disagree, but I think the one thing we can agree on is that Jon/Brian/Steve for whatever reason have made another almighty cock up.

Whilst I normally agree with all your posts SD, surely the U18's farce and not filling the bench is a case in point. Pearson had no problem playing and using Yeboah, presumably against the wishes if Tinnion, bearing in mind their stated aim of winning the youth Cup.

The minute Manning walks through the door Yeboah is nowhere near the first team. He and the other U18' involved at first team level, start training seperately and Yeboah is loaned out to prepare for the youth Cup.

These decisions show to me that Manning is malleable and Pearson told them what to do with their youth Cup.

So he wants about £200,000,000 does he because that’s about what it’s cost him.

Small change, literally to a 2x billionaire. 20 million a year is 1 per cent of his wealth and only a fraction of the yearly interest earned on his investments.

No, I'm not suggesting him for us, but some interesting stories of his work as DoF at QPR.  I really enjoy the format of these with Neville, Keane, Wright and others.

I always loved Ferdinand as a striker.

Was listening to same pod earlier. Really interesting from about 40 mins in. Particularly managers who interview well and accept the way the club want to play, but then do something different.

Interesting too Roy Keane saying the average age of a promoted Championship player is 29.

Les now looking for a DOF role again. Mmm

Keep at what cost though? Clearly Conway hasn’t signed because the number isn’t high enough. But how high do you go for a striker that has 9 goals this season, 3 of which were penalties. Tinnion did say it was someone abroad they were eyeing up.

Probably circa £3 million. But that is money you don't have anyway. Then factor in cost of new striker on higher wages. No guarantees that the striker Tinnion is hinting at will score more than 9 goals, particularly if playing Manningball.

Replace the coach, change the system, keep Tommy (yes you may have to let him go for nothing in 12 months), if he scores 9 or so between August and December you may get a fee for him in January.

    Agreed.

I'd sooner we keep Conway and see how we can build around.

Plus if it is a big physical number 9 we need, then that doesn't really feed into possession and quick play.

Putting aside the fact I'm pro keeping Conway and seeing how we can service him better and improve the side, the idea of a big physical sticker doesn't even (IMO) make that much sense strategically if we are recruiting to this plan.

Agree keep Conway. Wondering what type of player Langstaff is, just have a funny feeling that's who they are eyeing up.

Compared to Manning's 1.26, thats thats nearly 20% worse (0.18) is it not?

    Yup.

It’s notable that we’re one week from season tickets having gone on sale and despite there being two natural marketing points to tweet out - the winner of the free season ticket, and the  fact that telephone sales start today, it’s radio silence.

That says to me ticket sales aren’t where they hoped they’d be at this point.

And that won’t be solely on Manning - but he’ll - or more accurately his football - will be a large factor for many, and the lack of sales will focus minds in the boardroom. And that in turn adds pressure to both results and performance to incentivise people to renew.

To me, the game hasn’t changed despite what Latham may think. We get beaten (with no performance) by Leicester and then don’t beat a woeful Plymouth, I can see P45 next week. I don’t think he gets out of the woods fully absent a miraculous last eight games, but there will be a degree of wanting to do it before ST holders drift away.

The big problem for both Manning and the Lansdowns is that he has utterly lost the fanbase. No manager comes back from that. He will be gone next Autumn (sooner hopefully) unless his team start playing a style akin to Klopps heavy metal footabll imo.

Renewed today. Will continue to support the team despite the issues elsewhere

Well done that's a few more quid interest for SL, that you could have had between now and the end of April.
