He was doing ******* awful regardless of takeover so wouldn't have been a surprise anyway. It won't be the glitz and glamour manager next, it'll be someone who can guide them to lower mid table before that. Anyone reckon Rafa has a clause in his contract where he could go back to Newcastle if Ashley left?

Really...Finishing 12th and 14th with half a championship team and no say on incoming transfers. That really is awful, wouldn't want us finishing in such lowly positions with poor players.

Totally distracted today by the OTIB.

Pearson clearly doesn't rate the squad - so he's telling them. And also quite clearly he was furious.

Some of these players are totally out of their depth. They cannot, cannot, cannot manage a game. I accept that Pearson takes some accountability - esp. for the subs, but what do / can you do if the players don't implement the plans.

And this disease of sitting back and inviting the opposition to attack, has been around since the 'pox at Ashton Gate.

This is going to be a very long season. Very long. And so will the next season, as we'll only be able to bring in 4-5 more players.

No problem with that if you are well drilled and drop in to two banks of four, shut off the passing lanes and press like dogs, to protect a lead. What we do is a million miles from that.

The worse crime for me is the constant pumping the ball upfield ,when we do win it, and it comes straight back at us, as more pressure.

    I agree with this.

It's easy to criticise the police and the security - and, as you say, it's important to investigate whether any steward did anything wrong, dangerous or illegal - but I don't think the police and the stewards could reasonably have anticipated the level of crowd trouble and attempts to gatecrash that happened. Clearly there is a need to up security in the future but responsibility ultimately lies with the people who chose to force their in without a ticket and/or to misbehave in and around the stadium. Sadly, as ever, it's mostly the law-abiding fans and the players who pay the price as we have a game without attendees but responsibility has to lie with the idiots who spoil things for everyone else.

Really !!! even though it was bad early  / mid morning and got progressively worse during the day. Don't need to have a crystal ball to see what was going to happen the closer the kick off time approached. I admit I have not been to the 'new' Wembley but surely it wouldn't be difficult to stop people going on to Wembley way who didn't have a ticket for the game. (would any Police Force anywhere else in Europe have allowed scenes like that to occur ?).

It was a total shambles - The FA, Met and the Government should hold their heads...the fine and behind closed doors game are irrelevant. The damage to this country's well built reputation for holding successful major international events (96 Euros and 2012 Olympics) has been shattered. The final's organisation reflected the current leadership of this country...arrogant, unprepared and shambolic in its approach. The ticketless hoards that packed the Olympic Way personified an international view that English football fans are jingoistic, self-indulgent, undisciplined and out of control thugs..... even when the vast majority are not!

We can kiss goodbyeee to any thoughts of world cup finals here, even if we have the best stadia and infrastructure in Europe...it makes me weep to think that Germany and Spain will have hosted 2 world cups each since we last did.....

No doubt the powers that be and terminally stupid will say it's the "dirty foreigner's fault that we are not chosen, Brexit and all that...

Find it so odd that he waited until the 85th minute to come down. Game was totally dead and gone by that point, may as well have just not bothered

I thought everyone left their seats early !

or he wanted to grab a £1 pie.

A poor team performance and only one thread targeting an individual player. And the thread contains stuff like wishing he would ‘**** off’.  Classic scapegoating.  Not you, but many others.

Not sure about scapegoating, but lots of balanced views as to why he was pulled at Half Time. Only one person knows the real answer and I would guess it was because he wasn't doing the job that NP asked him to do. The same thing happened to Vyner and he hasnt been seen since.

NP is on record as saying that if players do their own thing and don't follow their game instructions then they won't be playing.

Does anybody know how much we could actually spend on a striker and wide men if we wanted to?

I have just read an article suggesting that based on Newcastle’s finances / profit / returns etc., the new owners can spend a maximum of £198M on incoming players without breaching the rules.

I read regularly on here that we can’t spend even if we wanted to because of FFP but what are the facts please, does anybody actually know?

Look up Dave Fevs old posts he has explained it several times over.

The answer is about 5 bob in old money.

Don’t really want to go food shopping before the game

Looking at the football ground guide seems like plenty of official parking near the ground - just booked a slot for £12 in Park C

Can be any of the shops, including food outlets as long as your receipts total £50. Accept not ideal before a game, but it is then free parking right next to the ground.

Thinking of going but not been since the days of Highfield Road. As it's an out of town ground how do people get there?

You can park in the large shopping centre car park next to the ground. Just need to spend £50 in Tesco and keep your receipt to send off when the PCN comes through. (or stick something over your number plate before you leave which saves the hassle of the receipt). Parked there for a concert a couple of years ago . Just google for full terms and conditions.

Back in City’s promotion year (to what was then the First Division) we had two consecutive away games against two of our promotion contenders, Sunderland and West Brom.

A 0-0 draw with Sunderland was followed (or preceded, I forget now) by a 1-0 win at The Hawthorns.

Holding on for that victory, under a constant barrage of crosses and shots, especially knowing how important it was to our promotion hopes, was nail biting to say the least.

Pretty sure the Sunderland game was minus Paul Cheesley who was called up to England U 23's.

Just looking at his end career and start of management .

Notts Co. Signed as a 4th Division player on £40k a week, played once and didn't like it .... left by mutual consent. Does not give a good indication of being happy at that level, few weeks into a 4 year deal.

Then went back to Arsenal and Newcastle played 18 times in the Prem, obviously liked the comfort of the Prwn sandwiches .

Macclesfield , kept them up TBF. About 26% win record. Joined in the November 2018 , and in August 2019  left by mutual consent (9 months ?) . Then backed an HMRC winding up order against the club. Now that doesn't sit well with clubs, even if he is owed money.
After winding up order they are in the NORTH WEST COUNTIES PREMIER DIVISION.

Joined Southend, Oct 2019. Another cash strapped team who were struggling, relegated when COVID hit. Left June 2020, by mutual consent. (9 months?)They also had a winding up order hanging over them.

Add the bit about him saying he was one of the best players in the World, that Billy Big Bollox never goes down well, I'm not seeing a great candidate for a job.
Was never getting a job with City when Johnson left, everyone (apart from Mark Ashton) was crying out for an experienced man. Even that scabby lot from the top of Gloucester Road wanted a more experienced man. Even if he did have court cases hanging over him.
I don't think he's done himself any favours, IMO he should be looking for a stable, lower League club, and get some time and experience in.

Pretty sure he did the same thing at Portsmouth when he was on Prem league wages in whatever division they were in at the time.

  12. Burned what little there is of his reputation during one of his earlier job interviews when he was asked about specific players in the squad and what formation he would play. He couldn't actually name any of the players !!! (not exactly well prepared). This was from everyone's favourite Talk Sport co host Simon Jordan.

I’m not sure the Administrator could afford to terminate his contract, so they are stuck with each other aren’t they?

Bit of a blow to Wazza and the players as they all took pay deferrals during covid. Rooney's was quite significant too according to 'The Game' podcast.

    Couple more observations.

    1. This surely doesn't annul the FFP situation. They can't surely throw it out of the window given how far the EFL have come.
    2. Would Keogh now be classed as a football creditor.
    3. Will any regulatory bodies be interested in the myriad of transactions and those involved- not least regarding those who signed off, namely the auditors, but also perhaps the directors and maybe even the valuers albeit the panel upheld that valuation but that transaction enabled further spending that could have been hard to sustain.
    4. Given the flak he got, it's at least possible that with FFP + Admin- two cheers for Matt Hughes if it's accurate for he called 21 points albeit in somewhat of a different context!

According to BBC sport this still ongoing and Derby still face a possible further 9 point deduction for breaches.

Think it was a tough call to change the team today….Nige explained why, Preston are big….and we didn’t dominate the aerials today….Riis did well and little Maguire jumps at you or pushes you, but the ref missed all of it (useless ####).

I think Nige can rightly swap things up on Wednesday.  You don’t build team togetherness and competition by swapping players out willy nilly.

Yes I agree. I had no quibble with the selection pre game. Nige has said on several occassions if a player is in possession of the shirt and does well then they keep. No need to change anything after Cardiff. I just feel that Wednesday we need to be on the front foot a bit more, go for the home win from the start rather than waiting to make attacking substitutions later in the game.
