Hello. I don’t know if this is a good idea to post, but I’m the dad of the child - my son, Jay (not his real name) - that ran onto the pitch in the early stages of the match. First and foremost, I want to offer a profound apology to you all, to every fan, the players and clubs for Jay’s actions. I’d like to try and provide some context, if you’ll let me, to help explain what happened and why.

Jay has just turned 11. He has autism and is suffering from PTSD after 3 years of physical abuse at school, being restrained by teaching staff (which was concealed from us). Both of these conditions create complex issues for Jay, one of which is he is heightened to what he may (incorrectly) perceive of as a threat, causing he to flee. This is what we think happened on Saturday.

We were enjoying the game and then all of a sudden, he said he needed to go to the toilet. I asked him to wait and then before I knew it, he said ‘I’m going to the toilet’, for up and walked down the steps. I was about to go after him and then - out of nowhere, he turned and jumped the barrier. We were stocked and horrified. We couldn’t believe it. I tried to shout to him but he couldn’t hear me. At that point, I was really worried for him. He didn’t know what he was doing. As I ran to jump the barrier, I saw him fall. I (worryingly) thought he’d be tackled and - rightly or wrongly - I got protective of my little boy. When I got to him, he was petrified. I said ‘it’s ok I’ve got you’ turned to get him off the pitch but the Rotherham fans were shouting hateful comments, threats and abuse at him. Again, I should have reacted much better, but I responded to protect my child. I know it doesn’t look like he was scared - we do not condone he sticking his finger up - but this is a know protective response from children with disabilities like Jay. I felt exposed and vulnerable myself and so went into ‘fight’ mode. To be honest, it’s all blur. I was saying to him ‘it’s ok, I’ll get you out of here’.

The stewards tried to direct me off the other side of the pitch but I was worried about my eldest son, who was all alone in the stand. I just ran off and left him. He was so scared too. The stewards then grabbed me and I tried to say I’m just protecting Jay.

Again, I am sorry deeply sorry to you all. This shouldn’t have happened and I take full responsibility. I’m sorry. My family are devastated, for lots of reasons, about what happened. I’m worried about my job, Jay being identified and targeted. The ongoing social media hate is really hard to deal with. I get why people are so angry. Football is precious and match days are special and to be treated as such. What Jay did was not acceptable but I hope, by posting this, you might be able to understand it more. This was about disabilities and the difficulty of managing them daily. I messed up and let Jay down. It will take me a long time to get over this. As his father I must do better.

    Please accept my apologies.

Hey man thanks for sharing, very brave to share that with us on here. Must've have been a very scary experience. I think in the circumstances any of us would've have done the same. Hopefully the club are understanding of the situation sending hugs and love to you all.

If he fronted up when we’re Ona losing run rather than only ever on a winning streak, I’d agree with you.

Whoever the interviewer surely the main question has to be, given that JL said we had a top 6 squad, does he agree switching managers was a failure?

I mean he isn't going to say yes to that question is he.

I liked him. He let a lot go which allowed some old fashioned but clean tackles to be made. The back to back Pring and Williams tackles are fouls during most games.

I agree thought he was decent....but do you notice when we win...no one really notices the ref.....when we lose, the ref was the worst we've seen down there. 🤣

Perhaps it's part of the deal with the foreign team we're getting our new forward from? Tongue in cheek but you never know

Yes Poentially, maybe AL Nassr they got any good forwards

  5. Not sure I have seen it mentioned anywhere on here But Brian Tinnion was on the sober sports talk podcast and he was talking about pre season and that the Community game is pencilled in again and also that the last pre season game before the season season starts we have a foreign team coming over to play, he did not say who against or where it will played HPC or Ashton gate but something different to previous years.

As someone who has suffered 3 ACL/PCL (2 in right 1 in left and a re-rupture in the final stages of recovery as he did) which forced me to call it a day at an academy at 20, I can tell you this, its a unfortunate domino effect and we can say or blame the medical department but drawing from own experiences with it, if or when complications and setbacks happen they will just happen; the trauma to that part of the body makes it unpredictable and will never recover.

Depending on how he had his repairs (There is various methods depending on the individuals needs). He will continue to suffer hamstring injuries as they are the most common and potentially further knee complications (tendonitis will be one) and will have to manage that along with his playing time for the rest of his playing career additionally that will also be impacted by how significant the potential acceleration of knee osteoarthritis could be in his situation.

He will suffer a shift in performance in areas of his game which is to no fault of his own. I would have realistic expectations of him never being the "same" player.

Sorry you have experienced this as well, such an awful time for Ayman i really hope he is ok mentally as it must be so tough to stay positive, I was thinking the same around his performance and would he be able to perform at the same level again.

Regardless I am sure he has good people around him and I think we all just wish he can still play...if not with us then someone at a decent level.

    Really?

I'd class Rutter and Dewsbury Hall as very good championship players, for me Joe Williams is an average one who wouldn't get in any top 6 midfield.

He has progressed this season but only because of his shocking injury record previously.

I would suggest Rutter and Dewsbury Hall are Premier League players playing in the champ, Williams is at his level and looks very good in my opinion.

Surprised not to see Joe Williams mentioned this far. Seems to be free from his injury issues, played a significant number of games and looks a vastly improved player

Was about to mention Joe as was surprised I had not seen his name, Put his injuries behind him and is now looking a very good championship player, whether he remains with us remains to be seen, really hope he stays and pushes on next season. Also a mention for George Tanner so consistent, reliable, very rarley gets beaten 1v1 for me could easily make a step up a level for a lower Prem side

i was going to say the same thing but use bobby reid instead of weimann. blackburn have got lucky this season, found a way that works and stuck by it. could happen with anyone, well, sort of.

Yes sometimes certain players just click with certain managers get a bit of confidence and start firing.

Am I the only one who sees this Szmodic obsession (maybe the wrong word) as a little bit OTT?

The majority of the comments I read on here reads like he left us at the end of last season and he's suddenly tearing it up straight after he's left us. He left over 4 years ago, his record up until this season hasn't been exceptional whatsoever, and there is a strong possibility he wouldn't even be here now regardless.

Does seem a little OTT he is having a great season no doubt about it, I felt he was not given a fair crack at city tbh, but as others have said not like he has tore it up since he has left us, He would need to do it again next season for me to really think he's a top player seems to me similar to when Weimann had his goal scoring season. on another note don't know about other people but i always like to see ex city players doing well (not when they play us obviously ).

The same as when the Atyeo has been split between home/away supporters previously.

Yea I realised after I had sent my response that id read what topper said wrong, couldn't be bothered to edit haha. that would be a good a way of sorting it in the Atyeo

Just push the away fans into top left corner of away end looking at it and allow kids in from dolman end of ground ( right ) and a bit of netting around Rotherham fans -not hard

Of course but how do you segregate the fans from the concourse?

  13. 2 hours ago, Mike Stone said:

I hope plans are being drawn up to give Rotherham a small section of the away end over by the Lansdown,  so we can give at least half the Atyeo to City fans.

Last games of the season are usually popular so we have a real opportunity to increase the attendance due to a very small away support.

One question around this and the suggestions around the away fans being given a section of the Lansdown, how do we segregate the away fans from the home fans obviously there's a massive concourse that goes round the whole of the Lansdown to the dolman ? (Sorry if its been missed )
