Not sure if this is the correct thread to be placing this comment, but I wonder if Scott Davidson would be open to coming back as Chairman, with JL moving into a different position i.e. President etc.

Always thought that Scott had the ambition and communication skills for the role. He ever got things 100% right, but his heart was in the right place, and he's still heavily involved with various Bristol City related projects still.

Not sure you can suggest that the lansdowns heart is not in the right place, Steve Lansdown has provided so much for this club we should be massively grateful.

Sadly them selling I believe is the only way for the club to be successful going forward.

Am I alone in thinking I'm in the silent majority that are pretty fed up with the current situation, unhappy at how the Pearson situation was handled BUT completely willing to wait til next season to judge manning (where he WILL be judged from game 1 onwards)?

Theres a lot of noise about manning out etc but do most fans feel like me ?

Not looking to knock anyones opinion (2024 has been dreadful and masked from looking even worse by the FA cup), just sometimes the loudest voices portray a larger sentiment than the reality.

I'm in the same camp as you, very aware I'm in a small minority, willing to give manning the summer, however the negativity is something I can't recall for a long time, sadly its just the way the world is these days.

  4. I feel his lack of games could be manning protecting him. If we are losing games it makes sense to bring him on the try and make things happen, sadly atm if he brings him on and doesn't do that then fans will be on his back straight away. As was the case when he came on and gave the ball away a few times.

The thing is - he doesn’t just get constantly criticised.  He’ll get praise too.

But if you glory in the praise, put your big pants on for the criticism.  Fairs fair!

Of course that's completely fair to take the good and the bad. Just in that moment I think he lost his composure, which I think is fine. I just think some of the criticism of Tinnion has been really over the top recently.

Still can’t believe he was dropping undisclosed transfer fees live on air. Very strange and unprofessional

Sounded annoyed to me especially when Richard Hoskins suggested £2m for Rob Dickie when it was actually £600k, It must be annoying when you work your hardest for a club and just get criticised constantly by some fans ( I have no opinion on if tinnion is out of his depth or deserves the job ) But none of us (unless we have contacts ) have any idea of what is going behind the scenes its all just speculation.

I think the problem with this kind of appointment is he's still early career, I think our club needs someone who is confident and has the experience to demand respect from the players. I do see this as another issue that Liam Manning has, he's come in and replaced Nigel Pearson, Pearson who demands respect but it also respectful to those who earn his. I don't see why our players would respect Manning, he's not done anything of worth that the players can respect and he talks football like it's all very simple to figure out.

I personally think we need someone with experience but also who can command respect.

I think I'd actually rather stick with Manning, I can't stand Lampard as a manager, amazing player but I feel like his win percentages are very boosted by the fact that he managed Derby at a time when they had a squad more than capable of promotion, then Chelsea when they were a much stronger squad. My brother is an Everton fan and for me Everton was the first real job he had that was difficult and he barely kept them in the Premier League and then went on to only win 1 in 11 the following season before he was let go.
I think Lampards name comes from playing and I don't think the players would see him as a manager, but more of a coach with a wealth of playing experience. I'm sure the media would take notice of us but do we want the media that Birmingham got recently with Rooney? Essentially that went down like a lead balloon.

For me this is the best option we have and although his win percentage with Swansea was not great I think it was not the right club for him. Realistically there aren't a lot of better options and I think whilst his experience isn't the level we need he's still the best option as I don't see us getting another Pearson-like manager who is willing to stand up to the board and I don't think the board will hire another manager like that until we're really in a desperate situation.

I actually do agree with you here, I made the suggestion just based off what the club have said about what they want from a coach young upcoming coach.....But Williamson is slightly different to manning where he has played and at a decent level, The Lampards and Rooneys not a chance i would want them near our club. Michael Duff is a great suggestion.

  8. Of course I agree that he should be flexible, and get the best out of his players. However he wants us to be a possession based team, we have never been that. In the summer I expect players to come in that can improve us as a possession based team.

Anyway like you say this is the matchday thread I  don't want to keep debating Manning, I said I think we will get a result tonight or at least a battling performance.

Matt, out of interest what are the signs that you have you seen?

(FWIW I don’t think everything has been shit, but have no belief in that his way will work)

I am obviously not talking about the last 3 games we have been shocking, but I don't think that is all down to manning personally I think the players look knackered which is understandable with how many games we have had recently (same as everyone i know ) but before these games we have looked dangerous in attacking areas we just have not been able to score I think we have looked better defensivley and more organised, obviously we should be beating teams down the bottom but that's how we have always been. We brought Twine in to be that player that can unlock sides and he's got injured ( Obviously injuries is another debate we could have but not starting that ) so Manning knows what we need he just needs the time. Obviously this is just my opinion I know I'm in a very small minority but I would rather get behind the guy than constantly slating him.

Not getting at you Matt but part of this post is totally batshit. Why in the bluest of blue hell would you give the coach the summer to “get what he needs” when we had a solid base and to “get what he needs” is ripping that up on a punt of a head coach who has to date been ridiculously incompetent in game management, delusional in how well he thinks we’re playing and got the job based on a 12 game run of form.

Getting “what he needs” is a costly gamble with no merits.

What he needs is his P45, a personality transplant and to get the hell out of the club.

Sorry Silvio I disagree, there are players who aren't up to playing the way he wants those need to either not be in the squad or leave......He can't do that right now . There is never anything wrong with anyone believing in what they are doing....Obviously for the fans to believe in it we need to see results and performances that fit what he's saying....I have seen signs of it but obviously not enough. What is the alternative to sacking Manning ? What do you want the club to do right now ? and who comes in to replace him ? because if somebody new comes in he would need time to assess what he's got or get us to the end of the season at least and someone new in again in the summer. That is also a gamble.

Not really forecast so gritters etc won’t have been out which increases impact. Looks difficult to get out of Yate - we’ll just have to inbreed.

I'm in yate, have to get to the ground early today for mascot and hospitality package going to attempt to get off my drive soon

  12. Excited for this game, my son and nephew are mascots, they are buzzing already and its only Tuesday, Hopefully we get the result, things are going to turn if we don't (Not that i think things should ) Manning needs time and needs his own players to play the way he wants.
